    They might read BB or eb British brass band music where the music is in treble clef and not concert pitch

    wrong clef…

    • @taylormanning2709
      @taylormanning2709 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It isn’t the wrong clef… it’s originally a piccolo solo. Anyone ready to take this solo on can read treble clef with no issue.

      @@taylormanning2709not true. I'm a music performance major who's only ever played Tuba and Baritone in BC. I can easily play this solo and have multiple times, but if 6ou put it in treble clef the first few times I wouldn't have known where to start

      @@reuter2824 In theory they teach you the other clefs. The speed at which you can read is a skill you have to practice. Many tuba studios encourage borrowing repertoire from the treble clef instruments. It is possible you are not yet at the level where it is worth it, or it’s possible you’re virtuosic and just choose not to read treble. Either way, it’s just another clef

    • @reuter2824
      @reuter2824 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@taylormanning2709 you're right, and I had memorized the clef within my first semester, but practical application is another thing in and of itself. I've played many things. But I suspect that if I ever played treble clef on tuba id have to take serious time to think through the notes because playing bass clef for 10 years has burnt bass clef in my brain. Same goes for alto and tenor clef. It would be possible though time consuming. But making blanket statements like "everyone who could play this can read treble" isn't wise. I could relatively easily play this solo before I knew treble

    • @taylormanning2709
      @taylormanning2709 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@reuter2824 most performances in which a tuba player takes the piccolo solo, it is not during a sight reading session. You will have time to read it in the practice room and get used to it. 2 of the 3 times if it has been asked of me, I was handed a copy of the piccolo part. I believe you’d learn to play from treble far faster than you expect (if you have the experience you wrote about). Give yourself the challenge of only reading treble clef concert pitch music for a week or two. If you have a C tuba, trumpet literature is literally perfect for developing this skill.

    Uh friend that’s a treble clef

    • @pathos_music
      @pathos_music 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep. Thats how a british brass band works. Besides instruments can play in different clefs all the time. Even normal ensembled can switch tubas or more likely trombones to treble clef for solos or concertos. And maybe for some transcriptions from some really pretentious jazz trumpet soloists, switch treble to bass.

      Probably because no one would actually make a Stars and Stripes forever solo for the sousaphone

    • @Jseuph
      @Jseuph ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's actually because tuba reads treble clef in British brass bands lol. You start off on cornet and then everything stays the same switching between the Instruments speaking in terms of partials and how brass playing works. French horn and it's alternates would obv learn that as it is vastly different compared to its other members of the brass family. The only instrument to read bass clef only in the music world would be bass trombone, and in some cases I believe they would possibly have to read Tenor, but that's a bit past my personal experience to fully speak on it. Have a nice day and thats for the read.

    • @myname-isvincent5683
      @myname-isvincent5683 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @MrPunks1001 Ah, ok. I did not know that. Very interesting. So when reading treble, would it still be transcribed, or just in normal concert pitch treble?

    • @Jseuph
      @Jseuph ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @myname-isvincent5683 You would read it as B flat starting off on cornet. Kids start early, and cornets are more compact and easier for kids to learn. But Cornet and Trumpet are the same when it comes to reading music. You would obv have to transpose if you were playing C trumpet or F tuba or something like that, but that's just wide spread across the music world.
      Happy I could help spread the love of the brass world
