I stopped at counting after 150 times driving Big Red. Tyre pressures are everything so I usually run @6psi in the XJ. Good on ya giving it a crack.... Definitely need PSC Hydra Steer with the 40's I'm really impressed with your first ever go and something to remember that Big Red is constantly changing from one week to the next. The GU is a beast and if it had been early in the day I'm sure your tyres would have had more grip. Still great driving and even better making the decision to pull winch to save it for another day!!! Loving it and can't wait for your next crack 👊
I went up it in my shorty jeep, only have r/t tyres, there is a fair bit of traction there, as you can see in my vid it climbs up on 3 wheels, in some parts of there vid you can see his tyres are bagging. th-cam.com/video/0HN7xMUYLSc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rYXj5f8gPOJt7KzN
Yep, There’s a reason the guys in the states literally run very low single digit pressures on rock. For some reason here in Australia we think 16psi is low.
Bring in Jesse from 4wd 24/7 his a good spotter and a driver, the twins could learn alot from him. but props to the family what a great bonding moment, kids are growing up fast. Can't wait for Mia to join them on her Bronco!
Respect to the boys for keeping so calm throughout the whole drive even when it was going south. Awesome to see Patriot games back to where it all started, just the lads together doing some tough tracks!
Love what your doing with your kids!. It’s all about the memories and family!. It takes guts to put it all out there in front of the world as well!. Legends!.
American here who wheels something very similar. 3100kg rig. Climbing something that heavy and battling gravity my tire pressure can not be 2 psi too much or it won’t climb. My pressure will go up as the day warms up too. I’m not a fan of those BFG tread designs. Cut some zips for more grip. They work good in Moab but get a little dirt in the mix and I see a lot of slippage. If you run trepadors latter be careful with the throttle. They hook up so good with big power metal will fail. I run 9psi a lot on 40 inch toyo mts. 7000 lbs rig
I had a look. Most of the videos you see people driving Big Red is from past years when the rut wasn’t that deep out the wall that tall. Most people winch where you did, especially with comparable rigs. Big respect and your video editor/creative director does a great job with these. Keep ‘em coming.
I’ve only just found your channel, massive props to the boys with the pressure of guiding their dad in what looks like a 150k+ build on one of the toughest tracks in Australia! Thanks for the entertainment guys. Cheers Pat
This is a great example of where selectable lockers make all the difference. There were a few moments in this where being able to turn the rear locker off and leave the front on, would have made "pulling" the front left or right across rocks a lot easier. At about the 23 minute mark had Justin been able to turn the rear locker off, and leave a front locker engaged, it would have pulled the front up to the left, with the open rear differential assisting the turn, rather than oppose what Justin was trying to do. Hands down the simplest way to make lockers amazing is being able to select front, without rear. Having being able to use front locker only has on several occasions, been the way to turn out of a difficult position on a track.
A few others have commented on tyre pressure. To me the Jeep tyres looked like they were too "round". While I cannot run tyres this big, I have learned that heavy, strong aggressive tyres often need very low pressure to get the deformation required for traction in these situations.
Did Big Red about 2yrs ago with my 2lt bi-turbo Ranger Raptor. No winching on 35's twin locked, aired down to 14psi. 1st go ever, shit my pants but crossed it off my bucket list.
wow that Gladiator is a heck of a machine. Its hard to imagine such a big long beast taking on big red. I have a gladiator but its a baby compared to this (mine is only 2" lift on 33's. I would love to have this kind of setup. Great stuff guys...truly inspiring.
The twins where doing fantastic in spotting also with your seat belt use a cable tie to hold it where you want it to stay while you getting out and in of the vehicle
If you add throttle when struggling to turn, the power steering engages making it more easy to steer. When the wheels are spinning on a rock or something try turning to the right line and it will be easier. Or just adding throttle should make the wheel easier to turn in general. Is a tough track well driven ❤❤
Ugh!! I had major Anxiety with the spotting!1. :)). The story of the French moto gp rider trying to explain to the Chinese mechanic story cam to mind. :) Great patients and team work! what a great learning experience for the boys!
The twins are learning to spot the very technical lines. There's no better place to learn than to do it on the field with dad. Tire pressures seemed like they could be dropped another 10psi I honestly think this is awesome wheeling, and learning how to tackle insane obsticles together. Awesome stuff!
Hi Justin and Patriot Crew, great video the Jeep did well and the GU did well too. Christian did a great job one handed going up Big Red. Hope all well. What's next? GU and FJ49 up Big Red?🤔🤔
Justin you need to learn how to use your cutting brakes in the Jeep, it will help you turn either left or right by adjusting the brakes and wheel rotation to execute tight turns or to adjust your approach lines.
It’s not as simple as air down with a Gladiator. There’s a very small sweet spot where airing down too much becomes a hindrance due to belly clearance. My guess is they also don’t have beadlocks so lower than about 12-15 psi with a rig that heavy and you’re flirting with de-beading a tire.
Defo needed to drop them pressures. Get them tyres to wrap around them rocks and flex enough to get the dirt to fall out. A tip for helping to turn after the front locker has been switched of is to unlock a hub, then reengage once wheel is in direction needed. manual hubs only obviously. This also works if your unlocked in the front. Go drive the rig in circle's unlocked in low 4 on some grass and see how much inside wheel tears up grass. Unlock 1 front hub and do the same, the whole driveline gets bound up which makes it hard to to turn.
Did they tell you anything when you told them my suggestion? They ignored my email about it... instead of rewarding me with even a 'thanks'.@@PatriotGames
I so can't believe that with all the money spent on the Twins ute. The most important and one of the cheapest things is missing. A winch. It's the first mod every 4wd should have.
Great job with it all guys, especially keeping ya cool, that must of been the hardest part, only thing I will say is Definitely would have dropped the pressures in those 40’s in the jeep a lot more, really bag it out, they look way too solid for that kinda rock crawling
You can have a camera there in your front grill and you can have another camera on your mirrors and if you do it right you can have another camera in your backside hopefully you can see all the way around okay and it should work on your existing computer there so you can see what's going on in your dashboard do they know you can get it for the Jeeps here in the US okay
Your spotters are good but they still need to learn a bit more . You even got out and told them where you wanted to be ................. and they still directed you to the same spot . Hopefully it's a lesson . Love what you all do though .

It’s not about engine power it’s about traction and I still think Jeep got too much air in the tyres.
yep iwas gonna say the same
wrong tread
6:40 they look down a bit, but yeah, probably needed another 10 psi taken out. And it’s hard to find 40’s tread in Australia. Not many options

They make everything look so hard
Just so many big face palms 🤔🤐😩 and blame Jeep for their choice to run 40's when 35's are the biggest from factory.
Bring in Jesse from 4wd 24/7 his a good spotter and a driver, the twins could learn alot from him.

Great vid. Good dad-ing. Can’t wait for round 2 when the JT can steer and your first time jitters are behind you 👍🏼
Well Done bothe but big respekt with one hand up that Trak! 🎉 Hope you get well soon!
Love how real your guys filming is!! Just real and how it happends, keep it up!!
That jeep is beautiful!!!! Cool to see you guys using it to the limit. So much fun! and that GU is really cool! manual turbodiesel! love it.
Rock crawlers all over the world are cringing about these line choices. GREAT VIDEO, having a great time with family!!

Fantastic video. Most intense 46 minutes of my life👍
Love the comp between Jeep & gu

This is insane! I think this part of the trail beats even the Rubicon Trail, difficulty wise. And you’ve done it in the gladiator 😂👏🏼👏🏼

Jeeps at 10 and the GU was at 8, should have gone lower watching it back but didn’t wanna risk rolling a tyre off, all part of the learning curve 😉
@@PatriotGames Those big shoes sure know how to hold their air! Looks are deceiving! Was awesome regardless 😁
If you’re that hurt you can’t drive, give the keys to your brother.
Wow yas made that harder then it had to be

That was some serious dad stress there mate. LMAO. Good family moment 😂
I love this takes me back to my days of me and my dad

Great to see some real 4wheeling again. 👍
That was insane
How good would it be if Australia cars rules werent so stupid. Have a bit of tire sticking out past the guard and save a heap of panel damage
Cool vid lads keep them coming
I wonder if you can make an overdrive pulley for the p/s pump to run the pump quicker
is it time for the jeep to go full hydro steer all round and the gu to have a highmount race winch
Arrived today 🤙
@@PatriotGames nice very nice keep the vids coming lads and lasses

❤️❤️❤️
You should make a shirt. 'It doesn't feel good', 'It's working'... hahahah
Why don't Maxxtrax have spikes on the bottom too?
thats actually not a silly idea...
Of course, they should hire me for R and D. Pass it on to them please from me. as long as they are still stackable. @@PatriotGames

Lower tyre pressure and a PSC double ended ram and you will walk it up
People in America must be scratching there heads!! 😂
Tyre pressures and line selection
Love how everyone always says it’s the pressure, clearly not. Things looks like it’s running 5 psi. 40s make it look like it’s full when it’s not.
😉
What happened to the Jeep Recovery Unit?
How do you stop the fuel from leaking?
When you're against the rock wall, it's too late to "not do anything stupid".
I so can't believe that with all the money spent on the Twins ute. The most important and one of the cheapest things is missing. A winch. It's the first mod every 4wd should have.
It's getting one very soon.
hydro assist steering will help you turn the Jeep steering. The factory steering can hold up.
Need to get Pedro's son Jessie in he is a literal wizard when it comes to spotting lines
Yep, we will figure it out 🤙
Jeez! That was stressful to watch!
Full psc hydraulic steer, atlas transfer case, and portal axle would have help more justin, but yeah rules and laws are tight in aus
Did this in my bt50 made it look easier than they did
Great job with it all guys, especially keeping ya cool, that must of been the hardest part, only thing I will say is

Jeep Recovery Unit!! 🤣
juzzy bag the tyres more and the twins need to learn how to spot
Copy that! Never been into this hardcore stuff, we will figure it all out 😉
im sure you guys will keep up the good content 👍🏼🤙🏼
Hey guys love the content just courious in the Jeep what were your tyre pressures at I feel like from watching it they were quite high ?
10 in the Jeep, 8 in the GU, should have gone lower 🤦♂️
@@PatriotGamesHappens to the best of us.
@@PatriotGamesall part of the learning curve mate, it would also be extremely nerve racking driving $2-300k of brand new rig up something like that.
You need 4 point harness if you’re going that extreme 😮
Awesome video, are you coming to the Perth 4wd show 🤙🤙🤙
Let more air out!!
What are the pressures at? Or the tyres just have a strong sidewall so they’re not bagging out
Good first try at it.
Whats the point of 40" offroad tyres but then you pick such a meh aggressive grap pattern.
Nice ❤
Drivers experience shows more air out of tyres will help
Watching the Jeep do a 100 point turn on that switchback was one of the most anxiety inducing things I’ve ever witnessed! 😅😳
😂 try being in the driver's seat
@@PatriotGames would’ve needed to replace the seat if I was driving regardless of what seat covers you use haha!
Which rear bed is that
Steering and a better spotter(s) would make that easier
You can have a camera there in your front grill and you can have another camera on your mirrors and if you do it right you can have another camera in your backside hopefully you can see all the way around okay and it should work on your existing computer there so you can see what's going on in your dashboard do they know you can get it for the Jeeps here in the US okay
wheels loosin' grip on the jeep. Air down a little next time 😁😁
I think Mattracks should be sponsoring Patriot Games if they're not already.
Must be an awkward size for that hill
Hydroloc steering would have made that such a different drive
get well
Let's goooo
Bag those things down to 8 psi and take ya lockers out when ya needa steer itll make the world of difference
Get some different tires. BFGs suck. I can crawl up stuff like that with Maxxis Razr tires with ease.
You should have aired down on the jeep! Way way to much tire pressure
Just a bit harder than the new driveway
More then 1 line 😆
never let ol mate spot again hahaha.
Some better spotting and the jeep would've driven that easy
That wasn't a real good line almost hard up against that rock face. Had me on the edge for sure.
THE BIG BOYS🦾
You need to go with locals that can drive the track. l just watch TJ and Mac they did in half the time
love the Jeep
How is the young blokes hand
it was fine after a few days.
Not to be the smart pants here, but it really seems to me like the main problem is not airing down enough
Your spotters are good but they still need to learn a bit more . You even got out and told them where you wanted to be ................. and they still directed you to the same spot . Hopefully it's a lesson . Love what you all do though .
Need to air those tires WAY down
Watch this dad big red one hand😅
i’m a bit confused as why he can’t turn easily in the Jeep?
because the tyres are so much bigger than what the standard power steering pump is designed for. it takes a lot more force to turn the big 40s.
