As someone who's living in Germany (where getting a gun is quite difficult) this "every child & teacher should own a gun to stop school shootings" argument seems so fucking absurd. Regarding mass shootings a german stand up comedian made the joke "we aren't smarter than the americans. We're just unarmed."
Also in Italy, it's uncommon to own a fire gun (talking about a simple handgun or even more uncommon a large rifle), usually the ones having those are mafiosi whith unregistered ones, cops with their license gun or sport hunters with small caliber old shotguns. By the American mentality, we could defeat mafia organizations if every honest citizen has something to defeat themselves with, the problem is that this argument is so mental and wouldn't work on so many levels that has never been brought up in any discussion

Before the show started, Killer Mike came out and talked about the social issues that he advocates for. He mentioned the preacher, and started ridiculing him for implanting his ideas into his child's mind. So yeah, his point about his own children is pretty hypocritical.
@@thisismyname5657 yeah, Karl Marx literally believed that the proletariat should have gun rights in order to overthrow the Upperclass and take part in a worldwide revolution. What frustrates me about the moral panic over mass shootings is that it's odd that there's so much attention directed towards regulating assault rifle ownership when assault rifles account for a discrete minority of gun deaths. Firearm deaths are overwhelmingly associated with handguns and the nation doesn't really seem to care that much about handgun related deaths that happen daily (it does seem that banning handguns is politically inconceivable). Additionally, and more importantly, the majority of Americans seem completely unnerved by police violence. According to the Police Violence Report, 640 of the 1,147 people killed by police in 2017 happened when police were responding to non-violent offenses. To put this in perspective, the Washington Post reported that there were 302 assault weapon related deaths from 2004-2014. So in the span of 10 years, assault weapon related deaths didn't even amount to half of the deaths caused by police responding last year to non-violent offenses. Despite this massive disparity, we need to "march for our lives" and address the assault rifle problem. It appears though that Hobbes is still right: the State has a monopoly on violence.
Yeah, but if you choose not to frame a false dichotomy and throw in an unnecessary Hobbes quote, you can want less police violence *and* want common sense regulations such as universal background checks (for violent offenses), the banning of bump stocks and the regulation of assault weapons (which would absolutely shift the Overton window valuably away from the violent conservative gun culture that contributes to the handgun deaths too) I get not liking the police and I agree that state violence is veiled by ideology and discourse to the point of being ignored, but that’s literally just a separate issue. unless of course you’re wanting those weapons for the ridiculous idea of an armed violent uprising (good luck shooting down a predator drone with your m-16)
Keep repeating lies and eventually everyone who never knew better will believe it. More people are beaten to death every year than killed with anything resembling an assault rifle.
@@caman225 bump stocks don’t really do anything, I could achieve the same thing by hip firing an AR-15. Guns serve a pretty good purpose of ensuring that a government can’t become an authoritarian regime (unfortunately nearly every government including the USA infringes on the rights of others including that of privacy by spying on the citizens.) Also fuck the NRA, they don’t give a fuck about gun ownership and ensuring that citizens have the ability to overthrow a garbage system, they care about getting money from dumbass conservatives. They clearly don’t care about the people retaining their rights.

Anthony already has a family of 7 children who he picks up from the daycare walking uphill in the snow. Of course he dishes out great parenting advice like this
"I have never believed in the general practice of carrying weapons. I seldom carry one. ... I do not believe in the general promiscuous toting of guns. I think it should be sharply restricted and only under licenses." - Karl Frederick, NRA President in 1934. You can't make this up people. The NRA is a organization that lost its way and is all about money and profit. The profit margins get a little thin if more restrictions were put in place. But whatever, I already know how this is going to play out. How you ask? Because this type of situation happened before and it was called the civil war.
His argument that black people or blm shouldn't help other movements because they aren't always there for us, is extremely narrow minded. We all, black or white, don't want any children to be killed in a school. Just because we follow one movement, doesn't mean we can't follow and support other movements as well. Black people aren't a monolith, we have opinions on political matters that isn't just limited to race.
@lucatme no man i think Russia is just the new bogeyman being pushed by the US to try to bring everyone back together. Just like they're doing the same with North Korea
I knew the comment section would be a shit show but very shocked and saddened to see how many people are still fighting against proper gun control. How could somebody possibly believe guns are for everybody regardless of their history of violence / mental afflictions / etc? Like what? There is objectively zero logic in that line of thinking.
18:48... "Nobody is advocating banning of all guns". I think the thing that really strikes a nerve in this movement is the reintroduction of the 1994 assault weapon ban and ban on high capacity magazines.. the other thing is background check on *all* gun sales, touches on something they worry about, which is registration. Right now you need to have a background check when you buy from any gun stores, that already happens, but what doesn't happen is when you buy second hand from another individual, essentially rendering the first background check pointless. To be able to keep track of individual gun sales, you have to register everything, all of these are mechanics put in place that will aid the eventual wittering of gun ownership, should that be the goal of a future government. I'm not a gun owner, but those are just facts of this situation, so if you put yourself in the shoe of someone who doesn't want that to change, then this march is threatening to their interest. 22:39... I think linking this march to inner city school issues is a huge red herring, neither "assault weapons" or "background checks" or magazine capacity, or even federal age minimum for ownership, has anything to do with "bullets whizzing past them", as all of those guns are illegally obtained, and majority of them are handguns. So it's not untrue to say that this march ignores those kids, because none of the proposed solution has anything to do with improving that, and statistically, homicides between gangs make up for largest percentage of gun deaths after suicide, again, mostly by handguns, none of the proposed bans targets suicide deaths, or gang violence, so it isn't a "lie".. it is however a poorly made point that's a bit of a distraction. 23:20... "You don't trust the government, but you trust the NRA".. I'm going to guess Killer Mike is a member of the NRA, many gun owners are from my understanding, so this is the US's version of democracy in action, he's siding with a civilian funded organisation to sway policies in their favour, whether or not you think that's corrupt is a whole different topic, but it's how it currently works isn't it? That's why lobbies and interest group exist right?
You heard it hear first ladies and gents, Killer Mike is going to overthrow the tyrannical government's tanks and a-bombs and economic slavery with nothing other than his assault rifle.
Great video! I agree with you on some points and disagree with you on others, but I love that you shared your raw, unedited opinion. Takes a lot for somebody with a following of your size to do.
Here's the real reason why the Parkland shooting happened: the FBI failed to do its job after several public red flags, and the Broward County Police Department, after being called to the shooter's house THIRTY-NINE TIMES, did nothing and, while the shooting was happening, stood OUTSIDE and did nothing. These are the authorities citizens are supposed to hand over their weapons to?
But how is the kid supposed to commit a mass shooting if he can't get a gun? I don't know if you've ever illegally bought a gun but the black market don't take kindly to spotty losers asking for military grade weapons
to your point around 15:00, parents sometimes (wrongly IMO) see their kids as a representation of themselves, and therefore cannot handle it when they feel they are "represented" poorly
I think another important conversation to have is about the media surrounding mass shootings. Making shooters into celebrities and creating mass hysteria. Not to mention making any reasonable conversations about control nigh on impossible due to the emotional frenzy people remian in for a couple of monts after the fact.
Every major cultural problem in the United States can easily be traced back to the media, but no one, regardless of political alignment, ever wants to acknowledge it. It's not even the elephant in the room anymore, it's the room itself.
i'd like to add to the topic my own experience with school: I was a kid who had a lot of issues growing up, thankfully I feel I've managed to resolve most of them but the point is I feel like I can relate to the sort of kid that might eventually spiral into the depths of mental hell and make a horrible decision. And I know in my past I've severely acted up in school and gone on mental rampages throughout the halls, essentially having massive temper tantrums, In that sort of mind-frame I can easily see how when you're scared and extremely defensive you can make very rash decisions. this leads me to what if a kid such as myself is merely acting out having a temper tantrum and screaming his head off acting insane, let's say he grabs a knife from somewhere in the school or brought one from home, at what point is it okay to take defensive measures against the boy and when teachers and guards are equipped with firearms the sort of potential for unnecessary death seems almost too high. Surely you can see the sort of slippery slope this presents... it seems like a tremendous amount of responsibility to put on teachers and guards and an incredibly fragile situation for damaged children.
I agree with most of what you say but there are absolutely people saying lets get rid of "semi automatic weapons" which is a handgun. So there is some language people are either confused about or truly want to take away, essentially, all guns. Thoughts on this? Cause I don't know much about guns but I feel the whole truth isn't being told on both sides here.
Jamie Miller A lot of legislators in favor of gun control lack some of the most basic knowledge regarding firearms. So while their intentions might be clear (i.e. banning guns or certain gun mods), the execution of that into law is sloppy, which only serves to harm the effort in the first place. If their intention was to ban all guns, they wouldn’t have even bothered with more technical language, so there’s definitely some confusion there because most privately-owned guns are semi-automatic, since there are HUGE limits on owning automatic firearms.
Honestly, people wanting to ban handguns makes massively more sense than people wanting to ban AR15s or similar rifles. The key difference between America and everywhere else is not the availability of long barrelled weapons, its the availability of concealable weapons. The AR15 shows up a lot in mass shootings, but far more gun deaths including suicides are with handguns.
they dont understand guns, nor want to. Look at CNN on the "attachment" assault rifles can have which included a fucking chainsaw. They just want to stir up people for a political/ratings frenzy which is good for business if your the media. It's not hard to look into the stats and information around these issues to get a more nuianced opinion but again that's not useful.
i'm from the UK. the first and last school shooting we had was the Dunblane massacre. as a result of it, we banned handguns (excluding Northern Ireland) but we're still allowed to own shotguns and sporting rifles for hunting and protection; as long as we're licensed and background checked. this includes a mental health check. a police visit is also set in place for our homes, to see if things are secure, to see where the gun is stored etc. we haven't had a school shooting in 22 years. there are things more important than money, for example: THE LIVES OF OUR CHILDREN! and as much as i'd like to, what can i do about the fact you can purchase assault rifles and other weapons of mass destruction in America? i'm not even a citizen there. it pains me to see school shootings are so common. it's not just a mental health problem. it's a gun control problem.

The attention keeps getting pointed towards the guns when we really need to be gaining a better understanding of mental illness and help each and every single kid who is battling that from a young age deal with it. You can't take away every single gun in america. there are too fucking many. But you can do your best to make sure every person is treated well and has access to mental health care.
1. It didn’t have to get to that point, but yes we’re here. 2. Guns aren’t going to be confiscated in mass, no matter how loud the debates gets, so it’s a waste of energy getting upset about the prospect. 3. There’s no point in the Right claiming that mental illness is the true culprit if they then proceed to do absolutely nothing about it. 4. Guns don’t kill people, no, but the sector of the gun community that glorifies gun ownership isn’t exactly helping matters...and neither is people being at each other’s throats and ridiculing each other over differences of political opinion. Guns alone don’t kill people, but we have a culture that puts more emphasis on gun ownership rights than on ensuring that every single gun owner has a reverence for gun safety. Guns alone don’t kill people, but America does have a cultural problem concerning guns far worse than any other country on the planet. Call it mental illness if you want, but at least have the integrity to push for mental health treatment, not just bring it up to shut people up.

Fairness and freedom are two completely different things. Fairness usually ends up removing your freedom. I don't pretend to know everything that goes on in the ol' US of A. I live in England. But take it from my perspective on the outside. We don't have any of these problems, and if we do, its usually the young who are copying what they've heard people say, which most of the time comes from US celebrities. Words like far left, alt right, privilege etc get thrown around so much in USA. Socialist this, progressive that, snowflake this, entitlement, entitlement, entitlement. Now when everyone goes around using these words, when everyone goes around thinking in 18 years of a person's life they see the problems and can fix the country they live in. You either ALL know everything that goes on politically, and you're all geniuses. OR, you know nothing and copy what other people say. From my perspective, I see a lot of the latter.
I mean it's better then nothing. Discussion leads to debate and the sharing of ideas as is talked about in this video. I'm sure if Anthony had the means he would do more but every bit helps.
The U.S. is still worse than the UK. People that think all gun-related violence will stop if you have strict gun control should be put down so they can’t pass on their genes to another generation of retards

1. Thoughts and prayers aren't a substitute for political action, no one should be shamed for expressing sympathy. 2. Australia's crime rate was already at a decrease at the time of the mandatory gun buy-back. Also it's definitely unconstitutional so I don't know why you'd suggest we look at what "other countries are doing" aka ban guns. 3. The NRA didn't financially incentivize Killer Mike to have his opinion on guns, it's clear he's already had it before and was possibly the reason they had him come on ?? He even said that he doesn't agree with everything the NRA spokeswoman says.

5:40 That's interesting. There have been metal detectors in inner city schools in Detroit since the 1980s. I am not going to suggest Detroit schools were great as a result of metal detectors, but I can tell you there were never any mass shootings. Why not just install metal detectors across the board in schools? No infringement of the second amendment and there will be NO GUNS in the schools which would prevent mass shootings.

@@watchmewhipbruh1095 You have a gross misunderstanding of mental illness. Here's the facts. According to the American Psychiatric Association, "It is important to note that the overwhelming majority of people with mental illness are not violent and are far *more likely to be victims* of violent crime than perpetrators of violence. Rhetoric that argues otherwise will further stigmatize and interfere with people accessing needed treatment." Patients with psychiatric disorders actually account for a quarter of crime victims in any given year. And although mental illness has been shown to play a role in more mass shootings than other forms of large-scale homicides, the attributable risk of violence remains low, *at just 4%.* "It's hard for people to understand why they would have done it and they want to come up with some explanation," Barnhorst told MedPage Today. "Many people don't really understand what mental illness is, they just think it's a problem with your mind. They think [a shooter's] mind must not be working, and that's why this happened." On one hand, it may seem like improving underfunded mental health systems as Trump recommended is a step in the right direction. But on the other hand, doing so will probably not reduce violence considering the small proportion of mentally ill individuals who commit violent acts. "The evidence also clearly suggests that, even in cases where symptoms of mental illness do play a role in a perpetrator's actions, it is never or almost never only the mental illness that contributed to that action," McGinty told MedPage Today. Factors like antisocial personality traits or other behavioral patterns are more closely tied to criminal recidivism than mental illness, according to an NCBH report. Specifically, most prior shooters have experienced childhood trauma and had a crisis in the weeks predating the shootings, according to The Violence Project, an ongoing database cataloguing more than 100 mass shootings over the past 20 years. Bullying victimhood is often cited as a feature of many shooters' pasts. www.medpagetoday.com/publichealthpolicy/publichealth/81495

RTJ played a concert in my hometown a few months ago, and when we were outside standing in line there was a street preacher for some local hate group across the street shouting some homophobic, fear God type stuff. He had a really young kid with him, maybe 6-8 years old. This group shows up to a lot of the larger local events, but are generally ignored by most people.
Before the show started, Killer Mike came out and talked about the social issues that he advocates for. He mentioned the preacher, and started ridiculing him for implanting his ideas into his child's mind. So yeah, his point about his own children is pretty hypocritical.
This would be a weird time to disagree with killer mike

Killer Mike can express his real opinions but still be used by the NRA as a lackey to push their agenda and propaganda. Killer Mike obviously believes what he says, but appearing on the NRA to express them gives the lobbyist group exactly what it wants in the form of a black spokesperson. The NRA has repeatedly been accused of being racist, and Killer Mike doing this spot gives them an excuse to counter that.

Yes.
Yeah, but if you choose not to frame a false dichotomy and throw in an unnecessary Hobbes quote, you can want less police violence *and* want common sense regulations such as universal background checks (for violent offenses), the banning of bump stocks and the regulation of assault weapons (which would absolutely shift the Overton window valuably away from the violent conservative gun culture that contributes to the handgun deaths too)
I get not liking the police and I agree that state violence is veiled by ideology and discourse to the point of being ignored, but that’s literally just a separate issue. unless of course you’re wanting those weapons for the ridiculous idea of an armed violent uprising (good luck shooting down a predator drone with your m-16)
All are real problems that should be addressed.
Keep repeating lies and eventually everyone who never knew better will believe it. More people are beaten to death every year than killed with anything resembling an assault rifle.
@@caman225 bump stocks don’t really do anything, I could achieve the same thing by hip firing an AR-15.
Guns serve a pretty good purpose of ensuring that a government can’t become an authoritarian regime (unfortunately nearly every government including the USA infringes on the rights of others including that of privacy by spying on the citizens.)

Why all the down votes? His points were logical.

Very good wording for the argument especially the last sentence!
Sad but true
But.... The FBI has much better weapons than anyone in the United States could ever legally purchase.
Welcome to Florida.
Maybe we should be enforcing the gun laws we already have
That would require America to actually give a shit

It's not hard to look into the stats and information around these issues to get a more nuianced opinion but again that's not useful.
i strongly disagree with the lil boat 2 score
i'm from the UK. the first and last school shooting we had was the Dunblane massacre. as a result of it, we banned handguns (excluding Northern Ireland) but we're still allowed to own shotguns and sporting rifles for hunting and protection; as long as we're licensed and background checked. this includes a mental health check. a police visit is also set in place for our homes, to see if things are secure, to see where the gun is stored etc.
we haven't had a school shooting in 22 years. there are things more important than money, for example: THE LIVES OF OUR CHILDREN! and as much as i'd like to, what can i do about the fact you can purchase assault rifles and other weapons of mass destruction in America? i'm not even a citizen there. it pains me to see school shootings are so common. it's not just a mental health problem. it's a gun control problem.
Shootings still happen in the UK, I can tell you that living in London. Also, assault rifles are already banned in the US.

The attention keeps getting pointed towards the guns when we really need to be gaining a better understanding of mental illness and help each and every single kid who is battling that from a young age deal with it. You can't take away every single gun in america. there are too fucking many. But you can do your best to make sure every person is treated well and has access to mental health care.
the right wing approach is like Trump's: blame mental illness & cut funding for mental health care

On the topic of gun violence in Chicago, DC, New York, etc. Know what all those cities have in common? Super strict gun laws. Like, draconian, ridiculously difficult to get guns in levels of strict.
I definitely agree with you

Australia is a great example of gun control working. Pointing that out doesn’t mean you agree with the extent of the gun control implemented. Especially not when you specifically say you disagree with it
Seriously i dont think anyone in the world Cares if the warmonger nation shoots itselve down in their country 🙄😅
So yeah... So what you want but do not cry over the loss then 🤷
I love you so much for making this video Melon. You're legitimately so smart

The problem is that nobody hardly questions anything that they're told to believe.
It’s weird how many dislikes their are, but how few people actually dismantling anything said here there are lmao
Killer Mike clarified in the full interview and after the fact many of the statements you are criticizing

That's interesting.
There have been metal detectors in inner city schools in Detroit since the 1980s. I am not going to suggest Detroit schools were great as a result of metal detectors, but I can tell you there were never any mass shootings.
Why not just install metal detectors across the board in schools?
No infringement of the second amendment and there will be NO GUNS in the schools which would prevent mass shootings.
bruh
Gun Control isn't infringing on any rights. If it is, then our rights have been infringed for a long time, because people can't legally own things like Gatling Guns and RPG-7's
Yeah. Let's put metal detectors, see-through backpacks, and armed teachers in schools instead of addressing the problem at its source.
Xan Shipstew the source would be mental illness not guns then.
Rhetoric that argues otherwise will further stigmatize and interfere with people accessing needed treatment."
Patients with psychiatric disorders actually account for a quarter of crime victims in any given year. And although mental illness has been shown to play a role in more mass shootings than other forms of large-scale homicides, the attributable risk of violence remains low, *at just 4%.*
"It's hard for people to understand why they would have done it and they want to come up with some explanation," Barnhorst told MedPage Today. "Many people don't really understand what mental illness is, they just think it's a problem with your mind. They think [a shooter's] mind must not be working, and that's why this happened."
On one hand, it may seem like improving underfunded mental health systems as Trump recommended is a step in the right direction.

Well said Fantano. I come from England, I've been to the US many times. And my conclusion is that it is totally insane that any adult can just buy a gun. This is the honestly the biggest reason why I'm glad that I don't live in America (Donald Trump being a very close 2nd right now).
Have fun with the acid attacks, rapes, stabbings, and free speech restrictions over there. I will sit in my house and clean my guns for fun now. Have a good day.
@@CertifiedSunset "acid attacks, rapes, stabbings"
This is blown way out of proportion by right wing nutbags.
Doggo You probably don’t have any guns bro. The real gun owner wouldn’t give a shit about what people have to say unless it’s personal.
Trump is the most common reason I throw up when watching the news. Bolsonaro might be second...or maybe Macron!
"We don't want to take your guns, we just want to restrict what firearms you're allowed to own and throw you in prison if you disagree." Shall not be infringed.
Thank you for speaking out. These moments are so important.
You literally have people walking around in those marches (based on tons of youtubers interviewing them) and there are MUCH MORE THAN YOU THINK of people who are asking to completely remove the 2nd am. There are so many of these extreme opinions calling for the ban of every gun. I will NEVER stand with these people because eventually it will lead to a slippery slope when all guns get banned.
3:56 We know that legislation on guns does not fucking work to decrease gun deaths. It wouldn’t have done anything to help the parkland situation because the laws in place weren’t enforced. The department there had been notified an unbelievable amount about this kid, but refused to do anything.
