      I've noticed where I live latinx (latino, latina? ) also use the word a lot , even if they look kinda white, and the black people around them don't say anything, so I guess it's okay as long as you aren't white. I mean i don't mind, I'm not gonna use it , but I just thought it was weird.

      Mew [Jacob] Because it does. Beef has a huge carbon footprint.
      I prefer the Mediterranean diet myself. It is almost aa good as going vegan when it comes to reducing our carbon footprint.
      There are other reasons to avoid or reduce beef besides the enviroment. Cows also take up a lot of land and consume a lot of grain and water that could all be used to help people instead.

      Am I the only one who sometimes gives albums I'm only so-so on a second chance if melon praises them, and then usually end up liking it? Do I just like it because funny meme critic reinforced it in my brain as a good thing? Or would I have reached the same conclusion either way, and melon just gave me the motivation to give it another shot? Should I be giving all my music more chances under the assumption I'll enjoy them more on the fifth or sixth playthough? What kind of tunes am I missing out on because I hear an album two or three times and decide it's not for me?

      Or he could’ve just let it go because he knowingly pulled on her stage, got her to rap along to his song that he knows contains the word, and then when she said it (repeating his lyrics), it’s made awkward.

      @mavisevelyn618 3 ปีที่แล้ว +331

    • @Gino565
      @Gino565 3 ปีที่แล้ว +151

      @@mavisevelyn618 Well it’s not. Because it’s in a song. He knowingly invited a white person on stage to sing one of HIS songs that he knows contains the word. Honestly, as a black person I don’t see a problem with a white person saying it in this context. They’re literally repeating his words. If he was gonna get so funny about it, like Fantano said he should’ve just whispered to her beforehand “hey just don’t say the n word okay” and it would be fine. But honestly I don’t think a big deal should’ve been made out of it anyway. They paid to see you, they like your songs, don’t humiliate in front of thousands of people just because they literally sang along to a song YOU wrote.

    I mean...when you ask someone to perform your song....and your song has the N-word in it....it's kind of your responsibility as the artist to give your fan you invite up there a heads up. Especially considering they are probably hyped up and aren't used to meeting this celebrity and being on-stage.
    It seems she's confused in the video as to why he stopped the song. Because...if you're a fan and Kendrick asks you to sing on-stage (while recognizing you're white, to sing a song with the N-word) is your first thought when he stops you.., "oh he's probably stopping me because of my skin color and that word"?
    My guess is she was hyped, he stopped her and she thought she messed up or did something wrong. Hence, "what, I'm not cool enough?"
    I lay this at Kendrick's feet. Set your fans up for success. This girl did nothing wrong. She was given no direction and was pulled up in a moment of excitement and said something uncouth. Let's be adults maybe?

Just like how it's hard when you've had the wrong lyrics for a song all this time, then you read the right ones but you're still used to the wrong ones.
      She reacted with "Oh, did I say it?" Like she was clearly just absorbed in the song, probably nervous af, and didnt notice the slip up.

Therefore, there were quite a few more artists there and this particular audience was more of a collective of common people rather than the majority containing those who are a part of the Kendrick Lamar fanbase. This is abundantly clear in how the audience responds during and after the incident, first rolling with it and then outright booing her. Furthermore, keep in mind that this festival took place in the deep South where this particular word carries more weight in terms of negativity and racial roots. In all I do wholeheartedly wish that Kendrick would have handled the situation better, though I do also feel that this girl could have gauged the way that this word would be interpreted given her location better as well.

    Why did he have a white person come on stage and sing that particular song then? He could have selected something else to avoid this issue. I mean, this song uses the n-word so many times. It would have been awkward to have just been silent during those moments. Not only that, but Kendrick uses the word 'bitch' quite liberally in his lyrics and he brought a woman up on stage ffs - that isn't exactly his word to appropriate. If Kendrick wants to be PC about words, then maybe he should censor himself.

      I agree that white people shouldn't use the N word. But I don't think men should be calling women bitches either - there's a history of oppression among race, and women, and both of these issues intersect as well. My point here is that you can't just care about one issue, such as race, and not care about other issues such as sexism because they intertwine. I think it was a pretty boneheaded move to get a white person to rap a song that uses the N-word in every single line. Omitting the N-word in that song specifically would have taken away from the emphasis and flow. Kendrick could have done a better job in choosing the song or the person to come on stage.

    From a european perspective, this whole "N Word" problem in america is so backwards. Like why would you use the word in your lyrics if you don't want people to use the word ?
    Are they forbidden to sing your lyrics ?
    Isn't this kind of word only being a racist sign when the context validates it ?
    Theres a good solution if you don't want a word to be used, you don't use it yourself. Keeping it "only allowed to my community" is validating racist people thinking the society should be divided.

      Silver Hedgehog because of the long history of racism in America it’s not as cut and dry as “the context”
      It’s been historically used in a derogatory sense and it’s become a slur that has been reclaimed by the black community, much in the same way “faggot” has been reclaimed by people in the LGBTQA community
      It’s okay when the community uses it, not when others do
      Doesn’t matter the context, if you’re a white person in America, it shouldn’t come out of your mouth- once it gets into songs a lot of people have different views- Schoolboy Q makes white people say it at his concerts and ONLY at his concerts

    as a person whose first language isn't english(I'm Brazilian btw) , the whole debate around the N-word really confuses me, like, i never understood why its worst than any other slur so much that you can't even quote someone when talking about it and its really just a bastardize version of the word for black(the color) in spanish? its not like my country didn't have a horrible history of slavery and systematic racism(slavery was so common it was not uncommon for a freed black man to own slaves) but it just baffles me how much importance americans put in this specific word

      In America at least, Black people and white people were separated all the way up to the 1960s, when did slavery end when where you live?

      EUA é um dos paises mais pateticos do globo inteiro
      Eles sao completamente focados em branco/negro enquanto no Brasil geral é misturado
      Eu sou parda entao realmente eu falo n word e n ligo, é parte da minha etnia
      Mas la fora eles tratam como se fosse a palavra mais perigosa de todas
      Odeio o fato que eles tambem usam a palavra "negro" do espanhol e portugues como insulto quando literalmente significa PESSOA NEGRA
      Gringos sao idiotas mesmo

    I think in 10 or 20 yrs that word will be as meaningless as bro or dude.. and everyone will use it.. It already seems like allot of young non black kids say it all the time..

    • @eartianwerewolf
      @eartianwerewolf 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I kind of think so too; already where I live other races that are not white regularly use the word, but I think it's still not something people feel comfortable with white people saying..Maybe if the white person hangs with a lot of non white people they will let them use it among them? I'm not sure.

      Glittch_ i could be wrong but i think it just seems that way because media blows up stories like this.. I you watch allot of TH-cam videos (skating mostly)from all over and the kids in them don't seem to care at all.. That's the generation that i think will change this.. Like that xxx video, he has a white girl lip singing his song and she clearly says the N word..

  • @0ona
    @0ona 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    she looks goofy af saying the word, but if it's a part of the song, a quotation, she should be able to say it. if the artist himself thinks the piece needs multiple n-words, it propably won't be the same or have the same message without. why he even asked her to perform the song in the first place?
