- Ed Cherry Band performs "Take the Coltrane" at Zinc Bar for the Guitar Masters Festival in Greenwich Village NYC on Monday April 29, 2024.
Take The Coltrane” is a tune written by Billy Strayhorn. This tune is best known for being recorded on the famous 1963 record Duke Ellington And John Coltrane. The Duke and Trane joined forces and created some incredible music on this record.
Everyone was stellar, Ed Cherry and Yotam's guitars blended beautifully together. Claffy is on the mark. However, Ofri Nehemya gives a masterclass on drums during this performance
Ed Cherry is a legendary jazz guitarist known for his work with Dizzy Gillespie from 1978 to 1992, and for his own recordings and projects as a band leader since that time. He is widely known as for his melodicism, exuding a deep expressiveness on the guitar attributed to great singers such as Al Green, Marvin Gaye, and Frank Sinatra.
Tonight Ed featured an first-time All-Star lineup of great swingin' jazz musicians specifically catered for the Guitar Masters Festival - Yotam Silberstein on guitar, Alexander Claffy on upright bass, and Ofri Nehemya on drums.
More amazing, these musicians never played together before they went on stage that night - a testament to their great talent, adaptive skills, and listening abilities.
Ed and Yotam guitars blended beautifully together, and the counterpoint between their playing enhanced the overall experience.
It was a spectacular performance the entire night with fantastic musicianship from all and a great vibe!
This is the 39th installment of my "Great Performances" series, where I upload my own personal LIVE footage from past concerts of great musical artists I've covered either through written articles and/or direct interviews.
The Ed Cherry Band is:
Ed Cherry - Guitar
Yotam Silberstein - Guitar
Alexander Claffy - Upright Bass
Ofri Nehemya- Drums
