    Great video Brie. Just couple of things we learned. The instructions for the charcoal filters says to soak in a cup of clean water apart from the machine until thoroughly wet the then rinse quickly with clean water. We've noticed that a little bit of the charcoal might rinse away so it feels cleaner when putting it into the filter basket. Also, we have very hard water here and our coffee makers would burn out in less than a year so we started using a water distiller to make pure water for the Cuisinart and now it is still going strong after many years.

    I enjoyed your video, Brie, even though it didn't fully address the reason I visited. Love your 'everyday' language presentation -- you had me at 'unplug the machine for a few minutes to get rid of the heebie-jeebies'!! Don't bury us in tech-speak! LOL!
    I was impressed with your ability to just talk-to-the-camera and describe each step of the progress without stumbling. It's surprisingly difficult to make a video like this without getting tongue-tied, making mistakes and starting over again. (It's what keeps me from posting videos!) So -- good job!
    And, if I might make a personal comment without offending you -- you have very lovely white teeth!

      @@BrieOCD Hi, Brie. Ran a descale recently, and the alert didn't clear. But I ran it from memory, just pressing the Hot Water button to start the process.
      Just started it again, this time according to directions, pressing/holding both Hot Water and Rinse. At the end of the first 12oz of the cycle, the descale msg disappeared. When in doubt, follow instructions! 😉
      Thanks for the offer of help, and may you also have a great day!

    This worked on a machine like what she has. I bought it for $20 at a yard sale for a local women's shelter. It had been stored for a while, months - - maybe even a year. So, there was a musty smell to the water that came out when I just brewed without coffee. I tried just 2 cups of vinegar, but there was still a bit of a musty smell. So, I did the half vinegar and half water. I had to fill the reservoir at least 4 times, probably 5 before it didn't smell like vinegar. I didn't have the musty smell anymore either. I also cleaned the screens on the water filter while I was "descaling" with just really hot water and a clean sponge. Thank you for this video.

    • @BrieOCD
      @BrieOCD  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whohoo! Yes good thing you kept going until you were sure there was no more vinegar! I have had a sip of vinegar coffee and it is DISGUSTING 😂. Happy coffee drinking!!

    • @veronicaogle8219
      @veronicaogle8219 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh it's most definitely DISGUSTING!!!! I usually go a bit over board on rinsing any coffee maker after cleaning it out with vinegar - - for that very reason. It's been YEARS since I tasted just a little bit of it in my coffee and I can still taste it just thinking about it.... Lol
      Thank you, so far so good.

    Great Advice I started using “Brew Rite” which had worked in the past .After running a cycle of that Mixture, I still was not getting hot water or Brew to work. I took your advice on Descaling ...the 50-50 mix of vinegar and water and ran through rinse several times it was now working . I alternated between hot water & Brew and continued until all the vinegar smell was gone . Thank you.

    Do you still have this machine? Seriously. I bought mine in 2011 & it stalls from time to time as yours, but thanks to the thoural vid you posted, I just run the steps. This time mine wouldn’t dispense water by brewing, so I ran the hot water and vinegar by “hot water “ and “rinse” options. After running two cycles of the vinegar solution, I depressed the brew and wholly! The brew cycle was working again. I love this thing. 😉💖

    To remove the K-cup holder just lift up on the back of it. To descale this I use Citric Acid, it does a great job of descaling, I use the Citric Acid to descale my distillers, it will not hurt you. Vinegar should work too but not as good. Enjoyed the video.

You should do videos for all household machines (dryer, washer, dishwasher, etc) for when they go on the fritz. get back pressure that pushes coffee grounds back up into the middle of the water supply needle

    If you run the vineger full strength it will clean better. Then when your resevoir is flashing leave in on for atleast 4 hours so it can clean the heating element inside. Then run clean water through it. I promise it will run good as new. Stay safe out there.

    Don't insert the paper clip too far into the top metal spear or you can damage the hose. Also, for the actual Cuisinart SS-10FR model, after you fill the reservoir with the water/vinegar mix, press the Hot Water and the Rinse buttons at the same time. This will turn off the "descale" alert on the screen. Enjoyed your Lon Guyland accent, now I have to go make a cuppa cawfee.

    If screen is stuck on OPEN HEAD, clean the micro switch - I just solved this problem. Open the brewing head. On the right side you will see a small switch that clicks back when the head is closed. It should click back and forth easily. But over time, coffee grime will clock this. I used and paperclip to scrape out what i could while pushing the switch/button back and forth. As soon as you have it cleaned, pushing the button back will cause the screen change you're expecting to see with the head closed. This should be in the troubleshooting section of the manual.

      TRY THIS:
      Try pressing the hot water button for 6 seconds to reset the machine. If that doesn’t work, press/hold down BOTH the hot water AND rinse button at the same time. At the end of the “brew” the descale message should disappear!
      After descaling, turn the unit off and unplug for 30-60 minutes. Then plug the machine back in, turn it on. When you go to brew the descale light should turn off. If not you might have a defective unit and should then call Cuisinart customer service directly at 1-800-726-0190.

    Some video instructions say to use 60 Oz vinegar undiluted, some say 20 Oz vinegar diluted with 40 Oz or water, and another says equal parts (half vinegar and half water). Some say to wait 4 hours prior to rinsing out the vinegar, and others rinse out the vinegar right away. I wish there was one safest way to actually descale and prolong the life of the machine (and not just how to remove the indicator light).

    • @BrieOCD
      @BrieOCD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just fill the chamber about half and half. I wouldn't stress. Mine isn't about the light its about getting the machine to work again. I literally only descale when coffee won't come out and I've had mine since 2010. If you want to always keep it healthy just descale on a schedule like once a quarter or every 6 months and you’ll be good!

    • @BrieOCD
      @BrieOCD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just googled it (I'm sure you did too)
      Your described problem may be one of two problems. Let's start with the easier solution first. In the DCC 1200 there is a filter "stick or column" in the left rear. Pull it out and remove the clogged carbon filter(s) that are in there. Shine a light into the receptacle and remove the debris in the bottom. It is likely that this is causing the problem with you machine needing to be started on multiple times. See if this solution works. If it does, you might run 8 cups of water and 4 cups of vinegar through to help decalcify the units plumbing. Do this once or twice and then rinse with at least one pot run-through of clean water. If this works then you are good to go.
      Next, if this does not solve your problem we can do the following: unplug the unit and lay it on its back. You will need a #10 torx driver (hardware store if you don't have one) to remove the bottom cover plate. There are 4 torx screws holding it on. When removed, you will find 2 orange hoses. Carefully attempt to remove the left hose without splitting. I used a eyeglas screwdriver to loosen it up. If it splits, just cut off the split and stretch it to reconnect when time comes. As you look into the hose you will find a little black valve inside as well a some gunk. Clean it all out with a fine wire as best you can. Rinse well. Attempt to reconnect the hose back onto the pipe. Slip the pipe clamp back into place. Replace the cover and screws and you should be good to go again. This is not as daunting as it may seem. You can do it.
