I specifically remember the second era where the implication was that they were racing to be the first flavor and so the idea was when you taste Applejack's what comes first the cinnamon or the Apple

The Apple Jacks commercials are always in my head for some reason. I even use the phrase “here I come I am cinnamon” weekly. I guess they are just that iconic

You experiencing the storyline of a series of cereal commercials is the best. I hope you end up doing this again. The fact that most cereal commercials made for kids had these storylines and constant calls to action is kind of fascinating.
Yeah, it's weird, they've been going with the "doesn't taste like apples" thing since at least the 90's.. but they didn't have these mascots back then, instead they just made it seem like it was this big joke to be confusing on purpose, and they'd finish with (not verbatim) "yeah, it doesn't taste like apples, but they're really good anyway!" they didn't even really talk about the cinnamon from what I can remember. Its theorized that Apple Jacks have essentially the same flavorings as Fruit Loops, with the addition of a little cinnamon flavoring.. which I guess when they were doing the taste testing made a lot of people associate the flavor with things like apples or apple cider.
Watching these first couple commercial as an adult I think it actually hits the target audience pretty well. It’s fun and bright and silly for the kids but also plays to the parents who aren’t paying attention but see and hear “apples” several times
I can attest to as a kid watching these growing up and watching them now as an adult, I for sure was an adhd cracked out kid that only like seeing the characters fly around

They legally have to have the plate of Apples or something similar there, otherwise they cannot say "PART of a balanced breakfast", because the idea is they create a balanced breakfast, then just chuck in a bowl of cereal. This creates the illusion that the cereal is relatively healthy, but it's actually the fruit and milk and stuff that's healthy.
