- It was an absolute honor when @samanthasteenwijk performed "Our Decades In The Sun" of @nightwish in Dutch during Beste Zangers. She inspired me to perform it live as well, but in its original language. I hope you enjoy this live performance of the Nightwish song, "Our Decades In The Sun". The is a beautifully written song by Tuomas and pays tribute to our parents. 🤗 For me specifically, the song is about the distance between me and my family when I am on tour. 😣 So performing it during my solo tour always touched me.

Since I don't have a relationship with my father, I completely dedicated this song to my mother, my goddess, a warrior, who raised 4 kids by herself, two of us disabled, and unfortunately my older brother passed when he was still a baby, but she endured it all, and it's my everything

I bought the vinyl of the album this song is in ("Endless forms most beautiful", as Yuri already said) when it came out. This is VERY ΜUCH a Tuomas song, as 99,5% of Nightwish's music, for whom Floor has been singing for over a decade now, but with no contribution on lyrics or music thus far.
If you have read Floors' comments about THIS video, she says so herself, that Tuomas wrote it.

@@yuriperez1221 Tuomas is not the ONLY composer in Nightwish, but he's definitely responsible for like 95% of the music. There are a few songs that are written by Emppu or Marko though.
Tuomas is an enormous singer iteraciones... But what a pleasure must be composing for Floor Jansen. There is nothing you can imagine she can't Sing.
My soul rejoices whenever I listen to Floor's amazing and angelic voice. Who can disagree with me when I say that Floor was the best vocalist for Nightwish ? Not saying that Tarja and Annette are bad. They are also amazing vocalists, a world class in their own way. But personally, Floor makes Nightwish a much more celebrated band ❤️

My sister and I got Nightwish tickets for my father's 50th birthday, which was coincidentally the day before this video was released.
On the package we wrote part of the lyrics of this song but changing the first person to second person ("we are always close to you" instead of "I am always close to you" for example).+
thank you Nightwish for this amazing anthem to parents. without them we wouldn't be here, and this song encapsulates every positive feelings that a happy son or daughter could feel for their proud parents.

I'm 58 and my Mom died 37 years ago and my Dad 23 years ago. They never knew my kids, their grandchildren.
The sharp edges are gone by now and I don't know better than that they're gone, but I still think of them quite often and I still miss them from time to time.

The part “One day we’ll meet on that shore again” always makes me cry. Over five years ago my dad had an accident where he has sustained severe brain injuries and is now severely disabled. I don’t know why but that line always makes me think of him, how he used to be. I love him so much 🥹❤️

Memories of my father and a carefree childhood when I was playing underneath his examination bench (I believe in English it's called "table" for some reason) even when patients were on it, haha. He didn't have a job, being a doctor was his calling.
From home births (one year he did 100+ in the small village were we lived) to just being there with his patients in their final hours - also preferably at home and everything in between those extremes.. he dedicated his life to it. He died in the fall of 2019.
I still feel his absence and will always treasure the wealth of dear memories. Cheers from Amsterdam (& see you there soon!) 🤘

This one hits home!! After loosing my mother 2 months to the day of this song , its one of those seriously "choke you up" moments when you hear an angel singing a song you feel was meant just for you. I still beep the horn and wave at the old family home as I leave the empty shell with just my memories. HUGE IMPACT, much needed. Love from a stranger whom youve helped tremendously in grief

Very beautiful and heartfelt sung. I have a very emotional connection with this song. So when Floor poured her emotion in her voice I couldn't hold back the tears anymore, because one of my best friends, both his parents died last year, in a couple of months after eachother. My biological father died, when I was a little over 1 years old, and my mother had cancer, but with a lot of treatments(radiation, chemo, and immunotherapy)she is now cancer free.
