  • Started out well enough, then I got low near Wilber with a bit of wind. Had some light lift and had to hang on to it. Got slow. Had to cut corners to make it back before the day was over. Martin had a very nice flight. A bunch of work he said at his last TP.

    Your channel is probably one on my favorites. Gets me thinking about a roadtrip with my glider to Ephrata one day. You guys have some awesome
    conditions down there.

    Hi Mike.
    What good views. What dream clouds! Here in Argentina we have some similar landscapes. The quality of the flights at this time of year amazes me! Do they fly in summer or is it very strong? Are there more pilots in your area? You always fly alone.
    Greetings and thanks !

      Hi,
      We do get some very amazing clouds! This flight was from the end of July last year. (Catching up on videos)
      Summer is the best time of year here. Normally Martin will tow up first, that gives him around a 30 min head start. On a rare occasion I can catch up with him, normally I cut corners to do it. There is usually only 3 of us, 2 pilots and the tow operator.
      Cheers!

    Hi Mike! Nice flying as ever! Can you tell something more about the LED lights on your helmet? Any idea how visible they are? Cone and distance?

    • @MikeBomstad
      @MikeBomstad  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks!!
      The helmet one is the smallest of them. We were testing to see. Didn't seem like it was visible. I have 2 others, one on the back of the instrument, the other on the keel. From the ground they were able to be seen. When we were hoping for air to air, we never were close enough to verify. Still not sure how effective they really are.
      They are a cheap drone LED kit www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BMFR8W4C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2L77EE7U53NWQ&psc=1

    Mike: dust devils are bad news..yes or no...? roudy air..your flight was a cloud base all the way..your vario was sounding off..love your vids

    • @MikeBomstad
      @MikeBomstad  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It really depends on the dusty, some are mild others ferocious like a badger. A lot of times you can be close and find some lift without getting in the ugly part. Easier to poke at them with an Atos 😎
      Yes! it was screaming like a homesick angel. Thought for sure it was going to be an easier day than it was. You just never know!
      Glad to hear you enjoy them. Thanks for the comment👍
      Cheers,
      Mike

    Looks like you were on glide from ~Hartline to Mansfield. Cloud street, or evening glass-off? Nice upwind glide @ 6:00.

      Almost a 28 mile glide! around 40 min. Started between Almira and Heartline to the N. Took a turn a few miles before Mansfield the yielded nothing. The cloud cover mellowed things out. Wasn't much in the way of sink. Air felt neutral. It was a very nice glide :-) Track log link is in the description

      @@MikeBomstadI attempted an out and return to Sims from the Butte one summer. On the return leg there was a cloud street running from the highway to Canada, seemingly. I got up in that and went on glide to Omak airport, my longest ever. Slightly off course, but worth it. The flats can be amazing and humbling, so many memories! I miss flying there. Thanks for the video Mike, and great job.

      @DM-ur7bl that's great! That had to be exciting. Those are The Memories We Carry. Random times that it's just amazing
      Yes the flats will let you know who's the boss of the day :-)
      Best we can ever do is try to get along.
      Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks. Looking forward to a good season this year

    Watching your video while snowbird camping at Wallaby Ranch. I've flown my VQ 10 times this winter in thermal less than 600fpm. Still learning at 73yrs old. maybe we share thermal sometime? How many strobes mounted to you and glider? Peace

    • @MikeBomstad
      @MikeBomstad  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Excellent, Ive been following your vids. They are a great glider aren't they :-)
      We are always learning, when that stops the trouble starts!
      Would love to share a thermal someday.
      The helmet one was the smallest of the bunch, didn't seem to do much. Have a larger on the back of the verio and one on the bottom of the keel. We are still testing to see if it helps. They were some cheap drone strobes, bright in person. Yet to validate if they are effective air to air.....
      Best of air to you.

      It looks like my old one, based on the sprog zippers having strings.
