I worked at a large restaurant in the early 80's. One of my co-workers was chopping lettuce and chopped the tip of her thumb off. Blood and the tip flew into the large sink of chopped lettuce, and we looked for the tip but couldn't find it. After she went to the hospital, the restaurant owner told me to RINSE OFF THE LETTUCE AND SERVE IT on the salad bar, and, yes, he knew the thumb was in there.... after he left the kitchen, the head chef told me to haul it to the dumpster and chop more ASAP, which I promptly did. I still look back on this with horror...
Worked my way through college 1969-1976, as a USDA inspector in a cannery. Among other things, I did microscopic analysis of tomato products. There are tolerances on insect frags because if you tried to get rid of all of them, you wouldn't be able to use any product. My highschool chemistry teacher recommended me for the job. He had a story about being asked by the USDA to create a new filtration system to count insect frags in berries. He created the process--which they then opted to not use because the would have to "grade not certify" literally all frozen berries. Just consider the frags extra protein. What you can't see is either cooked or frozen, and not going to hurt you.
When it comes to such things, i feel many of us are far too.... weak minded? I don't know the correct word We have had far worse things in our diet back in the day. I can't imagine eating in the early 1900s expecting it to be clean of all blemishes. I need to say that this is different from carcinogens... thats bad lol. We appreciate your comment
Ok. Yes. I accept certain things & some cultures eat insects as a choice. But if the Europeans are banning American chicken (and many other foods that our govt finds a-ok!) and they're healthier and less FAT than we are, then WHY ARE WE OK WITH BEING POISONED??? There's no way to justify it!
Propylene glycol: A single molecule with three carbons and two hydroxyl groups. It is used in SMALL amounts in some foods. When consumed in LARGE quantities, it can cause severe illness or death. Thus, consuming propylene glycol, if it is formulated for antifreeze, can be deadly as it would be consumed in large quantities. Polyethelyne glycol (PEG) : A multi unit polymer used in medical applilcations. It is safe to consume, and usually used for pre colonoscopy preparation. BEWARE of confusing the two.
For your #2 on the list, I worked as a microbiology tech at a major food dehydrator. I was always curious about a test from another part of our lab. Some of our samples would be marked with "IF/RH". I found out that it stood for Insect Frag/Rodent Hair. Later in my career I learned to do this test and was amazed at the amounts that made it through the dehy process. Needless to say, but the high count batches were mixed with low counts so everyone could have a little!
It’s funny how I got into a heated discussion with a American person on faceache about foods and food additives used in the USA and she thought Brits and Europeans were stupid because we won’t import American food and Meats, however you have basically proven my answers that I brought up as my counter arguments to everything she said were perfectly fine and 1000% (her answer regarding the percentage) safe to eat. For example high fructose corn syrup is fully safe even though it’s the main cause of obesity in the USA and most food additives are banned or very very highly controlled over this side of the pond (oh and Canada too). But a lot of people don’t realise that figs are often used as a nursery for wasps.
What's she supposed to do about it if she lives in the US? Your just making her feel bad at this point. If you were her true friend you would just know it's not her fault, and move on 😮😮😮
@@SheilaTrinity I had never met the person before in my life as it was someone who basically jumped on a facebook post that was on differences between UK and US foods, this person basically called everyone who didn’t live in the USA stupid and ignorant of the high quality of food in the USA against the poor quality of food across the pond. Where everything that was mentioned in this video proves that what qualified safe for human consumption in the USA is as I mentioned “banned or heavily regulated/restricted” outside of the USA inc Canada. So it wasn’t an attack on that person I was attempting to point out that foods and beverages outside of the USA are safer and healthy to eat because of the fact that we have NEVER used high fructose corn syrup and the like over here because of the fact that they are linked to obesity and cardiovascular disease etc. I hope no offence is taken by my comments!
I cut most junk food out of my diet but the red Hot Ones Pringles are something else. Absolutely addictive. I would like to see a stronger but less sweetened version of the dill pickle flavor. Either way you're basically eating crunchy MSG (thus the addictive part).
This is awful I glad I cook at home and been eating a lot of fruit and vegetables and staying away from restaurant food 👍❤️ great video and thanks List 25 a Mike
8:54 yeah, up to this point, I can feel extremely vindicated for putting up with those who mock me for only getting my meats and poultry from local farms and ranches that are free-range, don’t use those horrible chemicals in their feeding and care, and adhere to strict humane butchering practices so that there’s no stress hormones in the meats and poultry; better for the animals and better for the humans who consume them. They also do not add any dyes or colorings, so the red meats don’t have that weird bright pink-ish tinge that grocery store meats do. Sure it’s a bit more expensive, but when everything is sourced within a few miles from the butcher shop, the meats are super fresh and oh, so delicious!
In 1976 I began reading labels on all food, eating only food that was natural with ingredients I knew what they were and no chemicals and I quit eating processed food, ground beef and fast food is something I eat maybe once every few years. My doctor says I am one of his healthiest patients.
Rare to medium rare for me. I once ordered a rare steak. When the waitress brought it, she turned her head, set it in front of me, & said "Here's your raw steak, Sir". LOL!
Vegetarians actually can eat cereal with lanolin in, as shearing the sheep doesn’t result in it’s death. Vegans can’t however as it’s an animal product. (I’m vegan and have examined many labels, and the majority are vegetarian.)
Vegetarians can also eat dairy, eggs and honey, which vegans do not. They can wear wool [as it does not result in the death of the sheep] but strict ones should not wear leather [which is a byproduct of the meat industry].
Steak needs to be medium rare, but any ground beef or any other meats need to be cooked thoroughly. Just not burnt. Ate enough burnt food as a kid. My mom tried but she's no Betty Crocker.
I used to grow broiler chickens (your fryers) years ago usda banned any use of products that contained arsenic and antibiotics has changed to use of other means to more natural means of tackling illnesses
About the ground beef thing and what temperature.... I always always always say every time I eat out to have the beef "extra well-done"... Like to the point of close to burnt even, for most red meats. Is a Midwestern thing that tends to happen commonly where I live and is preferred for me, at least. Charcoal grilling makes for the well-done portions even better.
Gracious... Being Autistic, I have a horrible relationship with ALL food. So these Facts [among others I've learned over my lifetime] are not helping me feel like eating anything ever again. Or more accurately, I wish I could leave for the EU or Australia so I can eat safely. Also, [maybe] TMI about Lady Parts, plain yogurt has been suggested for use to balance Yonis for literally milenia. Both eating and applying topically helps keep natural teasts and bacteria in balance and comfortable.
@@SheilaTrinity I do not want to eat tho. I hate cooking. Being Autistic is a Spectrum, including Mono-diet and fasting for days on end, just because there's nothing you want or are willing to prepare. I stopped eating for a MONTH once, my roommates at the time had an Intervention and took it upon themselves to check in with me and help me make food and EAT IT. I did not feel hunger, and truly have no memory of eating anything; the roommates said they never saw me eat, and my colleagues did not see me eat either. So, with such a distant relationship to food, hearing about the sins of the FDA, I get spooked about food, see?
I love sushi, and I have not experienced any digestive issues (beyond what normally upsets my stomach). My favorite Pringles flavor is original for some reason. In fact, Lay's, Ruffles, and Fritos. I can eat the cheese flavor of some chips, but I prefer to add my own seasoning (liquid cheese, ranch dip, or salsa).
Ethylene glycol is typically the main ingredient in antifreeze in the US. Wasabi is often faked in the US and other locations due to the plant once harvested has an extremely short shelf life. As for the wagyu/kobe beef Japan has a lot stricter guidelines for what is considered what.

I love beef steaks to be blue rare. There are cultures that do eat insects. Ever had crispy fried locust? Tastes like fried corn tortillas.
Locusts do have arsenic though.
@ankhpom9296 why do they have arsenic?
