I really appreciate this video! I have similar trip but from New Orleans --> Chicago planned (but eastward from Chicago). These video does a really good job of illustrating what to expect on the City of New Orleans part of my trip. I also booked bedroom E 🙂

I've never had problems with an E. One friend complained that with a restroom and a coffee pot at the top of the stairway, sometimes there were loud people gathering outside his bedroom E. I never had that problem even with my door open. Next time we take the City of New Orleans I hope to do more videos of the passing landscape. If you have time, explore as much as possible in the Chicago station, and try not to get lost.

that single level train parked next to the City of New Orleans is that the Crescent

I do not know. City of NO departs about 1:45 in the afternoon. The northbound Cresent departs in the AM and the south bound arrives at night. The Cresent usually has daily departures from both terminal ends. Meaning that most likely there are 2 Crescents traveling and maybe a Crescent sitting at one of the terminal ends, and possibly at both ends. However, I've seen the Cresent in Charlotte and in Meridian more than once and each time there was a mix of 2 level and 1 level. Also, being a terminal station with yard, there may be "spare" carriages, locos, and pending consists. Each time I've been on, or seen, the Sunset the trains were 2 level carriages. So, good eyes. I agree it could be a Cresent for the north bound.

I note that there is a difference of bedroom A and the others. For breakdowns of roomettes and bedrooms see the Grounded Life Travel channel. Thank-you for watching.

@@jasonbentleybrownRAIL Just heads up if you ever ride on Silver Star or Silver Meteor, try the Bedroom H, it's the largest room ever Amtrak offered and make sure request it on the new Viewliner II cars. You'll be shocked, for sure. Make sure do it 14 days in advance if that room H is available you are able to reserve it.

I’m a huge passenger rail advocate & have been since the advent of Amtrak in 1972…I strongly believe there is plenty of room for all passenger train types-HSR, regional intercity rail…I also believe all of our trains must not have to travel speeds >150 but what is a must is frequent daily trains, must be comfortable, on time and safely…in order to meet passenger rail demands our country must develop dedicated rail so passenger trains will not have to deal with freight rail & their litigious demands!!!

I agree with what you said especially about better frequency. I would add that the trains are too slow to get people out of cars. I am for HSR but not the best solution. Increase the average speed from 50 to 80 would attract many more people. The top speed doesn't need to be 220 or 160. Upgrading tracks to top speeds of 125 and 110 would be value engineering, as they say.
