    This video immediately shows the weaknesses of a system like Duolingo. Duolingo introduces these different greetings with no context, no explanation of the different words, and no assistance with pronunciation. Great job Natalia - I'll be using your videos to learn Russian.

    I've found this SO INCREDIBLY difficult that I've literally watched it about 8 times over 3 days :-) I am so dumb at languages but I am determined to speak Russian. It helps that you have such a beautiful and calming voice Natalia.
    But I think I have it now, the combination of sounds are so alien and many do not exist in English, it is too hard for my brain not to anglicize the sounds. Simply learning to say Zdrastvuyte was such a challenge. What really helped was first watching a video on how to do a Russian accent, realising that the sounds come further back in the throat. My poor dog has heard me walking around the house saying Zdrastvuyte non stop for 2 days. My dog now knows more Russian than me.

    • @weeklyrussian
      @weeklyrussian  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dr. Ralph Kennedy Yes, it's very challenging in the beginning. Most beginners just pronounce Russian sounds the way they think they sound - i.e. anglicized. It takes time to hear them correctly and even more time to pronounce them. Good luck...

    I wish to learn Russian language for several reasons. The first is that i love Russian history and culture. The second is that it is my great wish to visit Moscow for the 75th Anniversary Great Patriotic warVictory Parade in four years time. i would love to visit St Peters-berg Volgograd , Crimea and Kursk Battle fields. It would be good to be able to communicate with people that I will meet and to understand. i am practicing writing the Cyrillic letters and words,as well as saying the words out loud. I wont stop learning until I can read War and peace in Russian!
