- Back again with more Noob vs Pro Scrap Mechanic! Today we are doing the piston powered challenge except this time not making any sort of piston engine! Super excited to show Dapper some of the amazing things you can do with pistons in Scrap Mechanic!

What about an underground race or a suspension glitch race? I think showing dapper some of the "charm" of scrap mechanic could be beneficial and make for an interesting video.

i actually built a car that just uses suspension glitches
no piston engines no conventional engines gas or electric
it is just glitch powered
it is massive it requires 2 huge flywheels
one is forward and the other is reverse
the issue is the torque of the glitch flywheel breaks the sprockets
so it works hard to just go slow

I love piston powered vehicle challenges, It’s a shame that almost no one wants to do these kind of challenges. Could be because I‘ve made a lot of piston engined cars...
I’d love to make piston powered vehicles but I’m too dumb to make one even when I follow a tutorial

Kan, this is one of the coolest vehicles you created!
That whole mechanism reminds me of an air-powered prototype from some years back. It used inflatable bags on the wheels instead of pistons. Was a pretty well performing machine, but too complex for any real-world applications.

Now that the piston-powered is done, next is suspension-glitch-powered, and then plain bearing-powered. You could even use the steam engines' system of transmitting power from the engine to the wheels as a replacement for reduction gears, since those are harder to make to run smooth. Awesome video, by the way!

What about using broken vehicles to complete a challenge? Vehicles that almost work but not for long. 🤔

This vehicle should totally be in the survival series. Sure it is not the fastest, but it would not use any fuel and it is a lot of fun to watch.
Plus if it tips over when bots are around it could get chaotic 😁

Wasn’t the duck piston creation the one you used to beat kozmo and the piston car in multiplayer monday
When Kosmo and kAN did this, kAN beat Kosmo with a piston engine car. He used the duck in the piston walker challenge,
the duck has the same friction as the wheels

I wasn't aware there was an altruistic reason behind NVP. If that's the case, take challenges into creative survival. Challenges there are things like "Simple solutions to complex problems." AKA MacGyver a way from beginner resources. Like how do you mine with only a drill and no controller or engines? How can you water fields efficiently in the shortest amount of time (building) and with the least amount of resources?
Doing practical challenges like that will tickle the "necessity" part of your mind into inventing things that are outside the box and helpful on providing an insight to what is possible in Scrap Mechanic. BTW, easiest way to mine with only a drill is to build a scaffold over a rock form, put a bearing facing down over 1 node, slap the drill on that, smack it with a hammer to spin it, and then delete the block the bearing is on to drop the spinning drill onto the rock node.
In all honesty, now that Dapper knows a bit on pistons, gravity racing needs to be the next thing or "ski jump long jump" with friction reduction. And lastly, some kind of hopping car race/contest. Those are my ideas.
Now find a way to keep the pilot upright. I also wonder if speed and extension could be reduced to provide better movement control.
I also wonder if this could be put at the back of a longer vehicle using unpowered bearings to provide paddle boat style movement. The hill thing I do find interesting though... I think maybe a sensor to detect slopes and thus adjust the speed and perhaps the sensor angles could be used to adjust for pushing up a hill, and then deactivating the mechanism for downward movement. You might save on subgrid lag if you removed its turning mechanic for this vehicle type.
To solve strict camera follow, Kan could make a larger ring, then have some pipe that comes out of one side to the middle and add in a bearing joint and then build a seat that swings around the center pivot point.
The Hand has a friction of 7 i think, having more friction than cacti.
Hands and boots both are at 7, yes, along with (oddly enough) buckets. There are several other parts that are at seven, but they are either non-craftable or just too large for vehicle use.

i love it i actually am trying to figure out how to build my piston engine from trail into scrap mechanic that was sorta based on your design where everything was on the crank and someone telling me -100 piston power is faster then 100 piston power in trailmakers

Is it just me or am I the only one going back to 8:50 to see him (and I cannot stress this enough) PERFECTLY have those barrels go RIGHT IN BETWEEN the bars and they DON'T EVEN MOVE THE CAR OFF COURSE because he was just high enough for him TO GO PERFECTLY OVER (sorry for the rant I had to do it)

strict fallow camera should be a must in callange like this. dapper would probably win then, since I don't think you could make it all the way with out throwing up. and maybe half the people watching the video.

It would have looked epic if you had painted the vehicle with steam punk colours, since its pistons and all that and it has that steam that comes off the pistons
I feel bad for dapper, the sound of defeat in his voice was defeating in it self

In a pure race challenge, maybe do two "mirror" races instead? You both use the noob design in the first race, then the next race you both use the pro design. If the designs seem about even, then do a regular race. Otherwise its just Kan completely dominating the race and not really all that exciting. Just my two cents.

Hey kan, don’t know if you read comments, but I just wanted to say, I realized like yesterday that dapper was on the channel several years ago. In one of you older vids(don’t remember which one) like from 5 years ago, dapper was in you tutorial vids in the background. Just thought I’d let you know, and I though that was kinda cool

NVP suggestion: survival starter vehicle using only the parts from the spaceship and the noob craftbot
Build 4 of those piston powered vehicles and instead of the seat in the middle put a bearing in the middle and use them as wheels for a vehicle

Rule:
-(doesn't have to be a walker)
-1 Thruster for punching (doesn't have to and will take risk)
-2 spud gun
-creation must be on cardboard or any block that destroyable
(Except the plate that made out of concrete)
-seat must be on the cardboard block (at least 2 block above)

i got idea to make a piston engine but with pistons that are in the opposite phase as the pistons moving the engine now where a nand gate controls them by the sensors
