I think about thr amount of records these guys went through to get small bits ... nowadays you go on TH-cam or find an mp3 to chop up. Its such an art though to dig and put it all together like a puzzle
That Joe Pass sample is One of Dilla’s more underrated flips in my opinion. You gotta have a crazy ear to hear that guitar riff and make a beat out of it. Then the other samples (Screwdriver, UFO) just weave in and out of the beat every few bars. Might not be Dilla’s best beat but it’s like a perfect collage of samples.
Thanks! Not sure what you mean tho... I tried looking for it and couldn't find it. Regardless, I wouldn't be surprised if I missed something, the beat is STACKED
Imagine scouring through whole catalogs of jazz albums to find that sick loop, flip it and also flip those drumloops like crazy. It's not easy, especially when you concider at what pace J Dilla would make beats. This would be a days/weeks for some (even more so back in the day), for him it was like half an hour😅. I know you are not being negative, but this stuff needs to be said haha!
Giant steps.... absolute madlad

Will do !!
Amazing that’s the break used.
👌🏽
super tight breakdown, make more!
Appreciate you! I've done over 100 of them, can't guarantee I will do 100 more, but there is still a lot more to come :)
Love this beat. And song ✊🏽

Great video, I kind of managed to remake In The Streets from Jay love Japan but Believe In God is challenging af! Jay will always be the GOAT!
I heard something like that about "Believe in God" I will take a look, it doesn't seem that challenging, but some of Dilla stuff is hella deceiving.

Thank you!
Happy new year
Sick stuff! I think there's also an Ursula Dudziak sample in the breakdown... the female vocals with the echo?

No that's my bad, I got confused. I was thinking about "Breathe and stop". Another Dilla/Q-Tip classic
Man
Why does it look so easy.

Bro, kl only used the same drum break lol
Nope, he sampled let's ride, can 1000% confirm
@Narokx I have the same drum break in the free dilla drum kit but who knows
