Look, I'm not here to judge, I'm not a giraffe at this point in time. However, it does seem to me that you have to be pretty fucking stupid to get a tire around your neck. It's not a natural object but it's still a circular object and a giraffe that sticks its head inside one may not have the highest GIQ of all time.

A perfect example of how people can right a wrong. Cheers to the Vetrinary staff on removing a tire from around this giraffe's neck while at the same time protecting her from further harm and treating her wound. Well done :)
if this is what I think it is, the tire may have been there intentionally as something for animals to kick around. Apparently someone managed to get a ringer with this one....

For anyone wondering: They had to hold him down until the sedative wore off so he didn't hurt himself trying to stand up.
Also, they had to keep holding his head above his heart because of the risk of intracranial hemorrhage.

@@MikeySkywalker true, always have to do that. The physiologic reason is that the heart has to generate a force to overcome gravity to pump blood up that long neck to the brain. When the head is below the heart or at heart level, this force of gravity is no longer there and so the heart is pumping higher than required, which could lead to brain bleeds. This is the same reason why a giraffe splays it’s legs out when it gets a drink of water. It has to lower it’s heart at the same time as lowering it’s head to prevent high blood pressure and going to the brain.
They were so gentle with her. Wonderful people doing amazing things.

I think she just wanted to keep her necklace
I think she was ok, she was sedated. I'm pretty sure the same tranquilizers that knock her out/make her sleepy also make her pretty calm (like we had this one dog that was terrified of firework bangs and whenever our neighbours' neighbours were celebrating firework occasions we'd have to tranquilize him. But also it looked like at the end when she was coming around she figured out that they were actually helping her get up. She didn't try to fight or kick them as she got to her feet she just ran off probably because of instinct, but she probably got the idea they were helping not attacking her the same way many other wild animals figure out to go to humans to get help. Though of course she's still wild and not gonna take chances or stick around once she's on her feet and neither will they lol.

This veterinary team put themselves at risk of getting seriously injured helping this beautiful but powerful animal, and for them it’s all in days work. What an incredible effort! We are so lucky to have these hero’s taking guardianship of our heritage!

The tire did provide armor for a vulnerable spot. Big cats like to try and sever the spine, and that's were the hits land when they neck fight. Maybe he did it on purpose.

If it was a wildlife park, odds are the tire was placed in the area as a toy for various animals to kick around or (in the case of predators) to chew on. This one might've just gotten kicked in such a way that it ended up on the Giraffe in question.
Looking into the kind eyes of the giraffe, I shed tears.
