    The irony of all the people he'd pissed off, that couldn't touch him, and then this guy breaks him down, completely civilly. That's powerful characterization.

      Angel Bowfinger it's not as shocking as you might think. Take a chapter from my life. It happens all the time.
      Very intelligent person. Was supposed to go far. Became disabled. Decided to become a streamer. Life still gets in the way. But I am still intelligent.
      Point is, I argue with people all the time. People get riled up all day. All kinds. Often. It's always the calm ones that break you down.
      Think of water and why dams are so complicated and named dams. It just slowly absorbs into you and next thing you know, damn, and you cave in.

      It may not be real, yet we get so invested into these type of characters that we see ourselves in them. You may disagree with me, but there is a difference between that which is fiction and that which is fake: the first is believable, tangible, imaginatively grounded... the other one is not.

    • @NinjaOnANinja
      @NinjaOnANinja 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Santiago Álvarez M. House is impossibly intelligent, just like sherlock Holmes. There are instances which are believable, but then their are some that are not. Here is believable and relatable, because he isn't doing anything amazing. Which is why I relate. I am quite quick and intelligent. Not educated very much, but I get by. I figure out stuff that other people have no answer for. I turn heads in intelligent debate and piss off people who are used to being the life of the party because I always end up showing them up. The only people who ever show me up, do so like this guy in this video did. Personally, I wish more people could do that to me, I crave a learning environment where I can grow, but people are cattle this day and age. It's why I hang out at libraries and college campuses. People love me in those places because debates are never the same and always enlightening and interesting.
      My original point was that no one is as good as house because there are things no one can do. It's why I hate most shows and most movies. I tend to see the line between possible and not and when they do the impossible, it kills it for me. Unless it's a movie based on doing impossible shit, then its w.e. But I tend to not watch those because it is that kind of crap that turns you into cattle.
      Anyway, all this off the top of my head. Ranting is what I do and why people who want to learn enjoy my company. It's also why kids or show offs hate me because I always ride to the challenge and generally win.
      Number 1 in playstation all stars and partially responsible for the progress of my wow guild back in molten core days. We were like the 8th guild to complete it. Don't remember if it was world wide or just America, but either way, it was a challenge, and that is what I live for.
      Okay, no more ranting. Just can't help it. Literally gotta force my self to shut up lol

      There are other times he finds patients who understand him on some level, such as with the "sociopath." He was interested in her because he identified with her emotional numbness, and she recognized that and called him out on it. Granted, House isn't a sociopath, but he's definitely abnormally emotionally stunted and he struggles to outwardly express his emotions.

    The one line in House M.D. that hits me hardest starts at 1:45:
    "The reason why normal people got wives and kids and hobbies, whatevah... it's because they don't got that one thing that hits 'em that hard and that true. I got music. You got... this. The thing that you think about all the time. The thing that keeps you south of normal. Yeah, makes us great. Makes us the best. All we miss out on is everything else."

      Millions of years ago, I was a musician; a drummer. I practiced six hours a day, minimum, and my entire self was wrapped up in "I am a drummer." I was in an accident and broke both my arms. I found I couldn't play drums anymore, and tried keyboards, and quickly realized I could be a mediocre keyboard player. I couldn't accept that and ended up homeless for a year while I tried to rebuild my self-image. Eventually, I got to where I could actually listen to music again, but never to where I could play it.
      Decades later, I could honestly say "At least I got to be a musician. Most people will never get that chance."

    After watching this particular episode, i realized that the most important trait that doctors should have is the need to solve the problem, instead of just jumping to a conclusion and stop there.
    My mom had a severe reaction to penicillin about 5 years ago, and we rushed her to the hospital. she was puking and had high fever, headache and stomachaches for 2 days. this was despite the hospital having purged her stomach, gave her new medicine, and a lot of other stuff. But she was still feeling headache, vomiting, feverish. The doctor that was caring for her was not able to solve her problem, and instead opted to wait 2-3 days more to see the effects of the medication.
    But the night doctor who had to attend to her whenever she vomits at night was coming in to see her every few hours. One night, he came in with an otoscope and checked both her ears, he walked out, walked back in slowly with a pair of tweezers, put them into her ear and pulled out a ear wax the size of a grape. immediately after that she felt instant relieve and was not feeling anymore headache, the vomiting sensation also stopped after that. She was discharged in the morning when all the symptoms were gone. We were very appreciative of that doctor, he did what the senior doctors couldn't and refused to give up.
    More doctors need to be like this.

    What do any of us leave behind? When we die, that is it. But the children we create and shape, the people we interact with, the day to day jobs we do that make some part of the world better... that is what we leave behind. House? House would leave behind a trail of far more talented doctors who are able to help a greater range of patients. The patient, if he was as good of a musician as indicated, would leave behind wondrous music. He would leave behind aspiring artists that study his work and follow in his footsteps. All things that continue to touch the world for years, possibly decades.

      The point was that this kind of exceptionalism makes it difficult to build bonds with other humans and therefore often leads to loneliness and isolation.

    • @neroarchangel
      @neroarchangel 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Being alone doesn't mean you're lonely. People often confuse the two. Some people are just better off by themselves.. Occasional interactions with others are enough for them to contribute to the society if they choose to do so, but other than that no need for anything "deeper". We're all specs of dust on a Universal scale. No matter how good, great or exceptional this dust particle is or gets it's still a dust particle. In a Universe this vast being "special" means nothing. Even great rulers eventually get forgotten, they may have their names etched in history books but even that gets replaced with more, and new history. People should not aim for a purpose nor greater goals in life, living life should be enough, you exist, try to do no harm, and if you can help out here and there. That should be enough.

    • @alalalala57
      @alalalala57 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      mcd mcd being forgotten isn't the same as having no impact.
      We all strive to be remembered by being extraordinary (or infamous), forgetting that we're always making a mark just by being ordinary anyway.

    "Your even too cowardly to admit at the end that you were a coward" which causes House to get up and recapitulate. One life, stay till the end and see how it turns out.

    Most people don understand what it truly means to be great at something. Not just good but among the best if not the best. The world puts up such a demand for you to be normal and when your not the world believes it gets to make you work all that much more to maintain yourself. Useless lives everywhere full of laziness, procrastination, an unwillingness to be anything but dullards, and a vicious misplaced bias to top it all off.
