Epic. The future of surf design meets the future of surf media. This interview was an important milestone in surf history the moment it was released. Daniel is so humble and chill it's awesome. Quality production. Awesome questions. Awesome answers. Thanks Chris
Chris - awesome addition to the show. Absolutely loving this. Check out Grain Surfboards in York, ME (yes, Maine). Awesome guys and doing some super incredible stuff! Would be rad to see them on the show. Keep it up!
Wow! The evolution of the 'most stoked show' getting more Stoked!!!! Thank you, Chris!! If I am ever in san diego, I will definitely come thru! This is absolutely awesomeness!
I really like the direction this episode takes the show... Not only does your show speak about shapes and how they work, but now we can hear from the creator of these shapes and how they developed the shapes we ride! If I lived in San Diego, I would sooooo apply for a job at your studio.... You guys rock!
Love the diversity you're putting into the show! Keeping it fresh and keeping it real! Big shout outs to Tomo, I bought that book and its pretty mind blowing.
This is an exciting development in your show. I look forward to future interviews of substance, especially if you can get your shapers to reveal a few secrets now and then. It is refreshing to listen to someone speak honestly and simply about how it all works. Relying upon yourself for field testing is crucial. I think most if not all really good shapers do this, at least to start. In this way they teach themselves what works for their designs and what doesn't. Excellent!
Gary Niblock Working towards that. I think its very hard as a shaper/designer to share groundbreaking insights without being prompted or inspired. For example "So tell me about the board..." is not an inspiring question. In this episode I tried to make it easy for Tomo to share new details and insights, and I'm excited to get better at it.
Great interview and a natural progression from your awesome board reviews. I'm looking forward to more of these. Just a hint, as an Aussie I'd pronounce his name "tommo" not "toe-moe"
Shred, I saw the interview and checked the vangard, looks amazing! I'm seeking to buy a new boars. Now, I'm in doubt abount the TOMO Vangard and and Hypto Krypto by HS. I'm 22 yo 1,85m and 82kg, and surfing a Fred Rubble 60 x 19 1/8 x 2 3/8 28,6L. Also needs to say that you are doing an amazing job here, elucidating a lot of people about what is important on high fun surf. Thanks! Keep it on.
TOMO is the man! Humble, innovative, deep thinker, smart as a whip, and SHREDS HARD at surfing! I admire this fine Australian 🇦🇺 bloke on multiple levels. I cannot wait to try my Sci-Fi !
@thebensman9786 thruster FCS 2 large Tokoro Fronts with Pyzel medium rear random set-up I tried and I absolutely love it. Super fast a mix of hold and release try it you'll thank me later.
Love the new video and deviation from studio shred! Please keep the Shred Talks going!. One small recommendation, Tomos microphone is "hot" (sensitivity is too high and the volume is "clipping"). In post production you can always turn up low audio but never turn off clipped audio ; )
really enjoy this video you talking to shapper and asking him all kind of question and hopefuly one day you could have a chat wtih kelly , as always Guru ,great video, thanks!
What a sick video! I had no idea he had such an interesting background. I'm going to have to try one of his shapes. Ps glad you left the guy making the face, it cracked me up.
Hi there, really liking your show here! I would be totaly excited to see a review of a LibTech board, especially the Puddle Jumper shape by Matt Biolos that is about to come out.... Keep up the good work.
@bruno coelho thank you but the 'work' on this one was all Shaper Studios, from directing to producing, lighting, video, editing... The crew there is impressive.
Great stuff man. As a video guy and shaper I love what your doing. One bit of feedback- The audio kicks back and forth between the on-camera mic and LAV mics (causes that weird hollow sound between cuts). It sounds kinda funky but the interview is awesome and I enjoyed the camera work!! Great stuff I just shaped an Evo style board and can't wait to see how it goes after his explanation. KEEP IT GOING.
Thanks for the feedback Clint Runyon we're making changes to get it right next time. I've learned the same thing repeatedly - you can hack lighting, camera work and video editing to a serviceable level fairly easy (shred show as an example), but audio is a beast to tame.
I love how Dan talks about the kiteboard! Shape of the vader/vanguard, I ride a shortboard more with a kite than I do just surfing on. Kiteboard constructions tend to be lighter and stronger as well. Also the bamboo tech deck constructs really reduce pressure dings on boards which could poss translate well into shortboards for surfing possibly, although how this relates to flex im not sure. Will link a Sky Solbach video in next post - Siurf shaper for North kiteboards for those interested.
Loved this! Thanks for what you do! Any chance you will be review any boards from lib tech soon? I would like to see you break one of their models down and explain their quality, performance and fin system.
Love the show XX p.s you should do a review on the ..Lost mini-driver !! looks amazing should get more insight on to what makes it such a hit :) keep up da good job :)
The thing that I find most thought-provoking about this video is the fact that the current issue of Surfer Magazine's FEATURE ARTICLE is about the digression and regression of all things surf. "Surfers have seen the future and are fleeing from what it's becoming, fleeing back to surfing values from another time, eschewing their Darwinist obligation to surf faster, bigger, better, instead of surfing cooler - impossibly cooler, in some cases." I wonder what Tomo's reaction might be to this article... Nonetheless, cheers to another rad vid.
+ shred show Hey I recently got a stock 5'8 Sci fi and really liked the feel of the board. I've ridden epoxy boards a couple times over the last couple years but this is the first I've actually bought and ridden more than a session on and I really liked it. That being said I was extremely let down in the materials, specifically the rails. The deck and bottom have no dings or any damage but the rails are spider cracked and have actual foam cracks by the nose and I only rode the board 3 times in small surf. I typically ride PU merricks but figured I'd switch it up and try a EPS and the new slater designs. Is that a typical thing for EPS boards to have happen? The deck is solid and the bottom seems solid but the rails seem to be made of aluminum foil. I've surfed my entire life and surf a decent amount and have never had a board deteriorate so fast. The first session was tiny cocoa beach and I noticed tiny spider cracks and a slight cloth tint coming through the rails and then a couple sessions later I surfed Sebastian inlet on a stomach high day and the nose busted on both sides on the rail, the surf was only stomach high. I was just wondering if that's normal for these style of boards or if I just got a dud :/. Got it for small wave grovelling and durability and so far I've just had nothing but bad luck. The design, flex etc feels really good but I can't go for a surf without a new ding or 3 in the rails. I really don't know why this board is doing it, I've had dozens of boards and for some reason this one is just falling apart. Any advice or feedback would be awesome because I'm kinda stuck on what to do with it.

Normally I hate filters, but this looks nice. Glad to see you're expanding Shred, can't wait to see what's next!
Im so stoked to see how much your videos are progressing
Very cool Chris. Great interview. Thanks!
That explains why the boards surf so well. Thanks, Shred show for creating this video!
That was AWESOME! Chris you are a really good interviewer!
Love the diversity you're putting into the show! Keeping it fresh and keeping it real! Big shout outs to Tomo, I bought that book and its pretty mind blowing.
@christopher Mitchell right on! Was stoked when he shared that nugget.
+Christopher Mitchell I don't find the book that he has mentioned, could you tell me the name and author? Thanks
Loving some of the interview videos. This + the one with all the groms at uppers was really fascinating! Check out piety surfboards in newport as well

Well done, Chris! Please do more of these. Great insights from Tomo!
Great interview! I could listen to you two talk for hours...Can't wait for the next one.
Danny Stracey Thanks. I like your avatar pic. You create that?
Such a fun night, can't wait for the next one. And what a coincidence that Kelly swapped out boards at snapper for an Evo.
Great interview and a natural progression from your awesome board reviews. I'm looking forward to more of these.
Just a hint, as an Aussie I'd pronounce his name "tommo" not "toe-moe"
Thank you Chris! Shred Show rocks!!
Jaime Rivera Thank you, hope the waves are up in PR !!

Thank you Esteban Schreck ! one step closer to your variety show idea?
Yes! Amazing! Who is next? Kelly? Dane? JS? FCD? Biolos? Keep doing this...you already have a huge following...big advertisers/sponsors will follow!
this was done really well

PLEASE email john.curry@firewiresurfboards.com pictures of your board, and the serial number. Tell him where you bought it too. Tell him I sent you.
How's the board holding up? I've read elsewhere about durability issues.
