Damn you're making my least-played tri-color combo Naya look very interesting in this video. The Rocco Rotpriest deck is one of the coolest brews I've seen in a while. And Shalai & Hallar is really something else.
If you want to try a fun infect setup, General Marhault Elsdragon, Temur Battle Rage, and something with Infect can really mess up a table, and a Lure effect can force somebody's hand
I built an Ivy Deck with the hidden commander Venerated Rotpriest and it is soo fast and good. If somebody tries to boardwipe i just phase him out or make him indestructible togehter with Ivy. If someone tries to destroy him i give him hexproof. I win by either making a lot of enchantments that also attach to Ivy giving an opponent 2 poision counters with each enchantment. busted and really powerful
@@CommanderMechanic referring to the deck list I sent before. I'm trying to stick with the counters theme, and if possible just some budget cards to keep the deck under 50.
Wait does really lifelink and deathtouch work on non-creatures? The effects specifically say when a creature does damage, at least on wizards keyword summary page.
that's because it can normally only be found on creatures. Look at Soulfire Grand Master and Pestilent Spirit, which grant lifelink/deathtouch to spells.
Don’t let anyone tell you you’re playing the game the wrong way. There are a lot of “you should build your deck like X” guides out there but none of them are inherently correct!
how come call of death dweller is able to summon imperiosaur from the graveyard with it has a converted mana cost of 7? are you still allowed to convoke in this case?
So one thing I can say that I find facisnat8ng about thia game is that you and I both agree that this 2023 brought allot of new and interesting cards to the table but we have such varied opinions on why. Love if im honest not a single one of the commanders you listed really tickled my fancy like indominas Rex was basically just a less crappy version of rayami and to me the war doctor felt kind of easy (also technically doesn't need to be boros but that's not important) and honestly infect still makes me yawn. But I did fall in love with nakazel and her ability to really take allot of those old explor cards and make them feel fresh and powerful as well as I enjoyed allot of what lotr had to offer with food support and I must say doctor who has given me 3 of my favorite decks I've brewed frim sets frim the past year. Which jsut goes to show the wonderful variety 2023 had to offer commander players in terms of deck building options there was definitely something for everyone
Indominus Rex is just an absurd card. Goes straight into a Mimeoplasm deck to get your cards to where you want them to go. And when Indomunis Rex goes to the GY you cast Mimeo and have it become a copy of Indomunis Rex so you draw even more cards. This is an engine and a wincon in one. Like all legendary commander cards are these days. The state of this game is beyond having fun interactions with wacky and weird cards.
The Goldberry + Pestilence and a deathtouch counter combo is what makes EDH suck. These types of interaction grind the game to a halt and require every player to play a lot of counter spells, all sorts of removal etc. 4:35 none of these cards are made to have fun interactions and none of them lean into bluffing with possible reactions. They're all just well oiled machines (no pun in tended) that get you to a win faster than you're opponents, instead of you having to actually assess threats, bluff a little, intercept here or there or whatever. The newer cards from the past four to five years really allowed for un-fun power creep that you must follow or else you and your old fun cards and themes are out of here. WotC turned the fun and casual format EDH into a competitive and draggin game where only the most expensive cards let you have any fun.
Have you tried talking with ur regular playgroup about the sort of game you want? Nobody is forcing anything, and of course games with randos can suck big time
shalai and haller. is just a NO.....its just to easy and these no skill invovled....and u can go infinite with that red terror and other cards, not fun....... maybe try out "Bill the Pony or The Most Dangerous gamer. amazing FUN commander , i never see played.

What a awesome video, can't wait to see what new awesome brews come out this year

My 2023 New Years Resolution was to learn to love my least-played color combo (Naya) and I think I did a great job!

for real, that's so good. Ivy was one of my top commanders of 2022!
I play Zabaz and have to say its a lot of fun. Boros has definitely gotten better in the last few years.
Hopefully you could throw in some suggestions or if someone else has some cause there are probably cards I'm not even thinking of
referring to... ?

Graaz sounds like my jam!
I've got 4/5 of these brewing now in anticipation of MagicCon Chicago :D
hell ya, you'll have to show me your brews while there!
I haven't played Magic since infect came out. Had a friend who was wanting to try the game so I'm trying to pick it back up. Anything I should know?

Also: it really turned into pay to win. And treasures were a terrible addition.

That’s what cEDH is about, my friend. Win as fast as you can. Shalai is a great option for that.
