I slapped the money down and said: 'CATS!' Then the ticket taker saw my ticket and looked at me funny. I went to the concessions and got popcorn and a soda. Concession person asked: 'What are you seeing?' I replied: 'CATS! I know it's going to suck but have to see it on the big screen.' They laughed and said: 'Good luck!' I walked in, sat down, and it started. Already within 20 minutes, the half-sized theater was vacated by audience members. Only about four of us were left. And we were dying laughing at how ridiculous it was. When it was over, a person said, 'God, that sucked!' I left the theater happy while drinking an oversize coke. Worst movie I saw in the theater in my life. Good times. XD

This shows you how thin the line is between kitsch and art. Everything you described in the film was in the live show I saw on Broadway, but somehow in a small theatre with a great and talented cast dancing through the audience, it's magic and in this film...not.
The original poetry was absolute nonsense for children, and the stage play doesn't try to do much to link things together or explain what T.S. Eliot was on about...as that would be f--king impossible. It's one of those things that revels in the unreality of the stage and musicals. So Tom Hooper said in an interview that he wanted to ground his version in reality. What a righteously stupid decision, which only succeeded in making things unreal and creepy and leaving us with very uncomfortable questions that should never been asked by sane people. That they were fully committed at one point to feline buttholes says a lot.
Here is the one good thing this movie is (indirectly) responsible for. I was hanging out with a group of friends and one of them really wanted to see this movie because she wanted to see how bad it truly was. I got dragged along and two other friends kept hanging out together. They used to date and used that time alone to start up dating again. And now they are married. So...thanks "Cats"?
I actually saw this in a theater, sitting in the Third row Craning my neck as the soundtrack blasted my eardrums. I nearly left early because I hated it so much. It wasn’t even fun to hate watch- it was truly grating, idiotic and embarrassing to watch. Seeing Idris Elba gyrating in a furry cat suit was truly not something I’d wish on anyone, but then there was James Cordon’s belly, too hat and spats… they didn’t even make him look cuddly so much as slovenly. And then dancing cockroaches. Aye yi yi yi yi…so many levels of awful. Something tells me the A-list cast had NO idea what they were in for. Cats wearing shoes with human rumps to make them “sexy” is so wrong… the amount of hubris involved in this production is staggering….i think you nailed it perfectly and you almost made having watched it worthwhile…😂

*ThunderCats* would just be makeup and costuming, since the characters are meant to be humanoids. It wouldn't require actual CGI on the leads. As for this...animation would have made much more sense.

The writer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, wanted to see if he could create and write music from pre-existing lyrics. The words are all just poems from T. S. Elliott's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats", which explains why there's no story. Then there was a whole mess of other things that led to it being the second longest running Broadway musical somehow
I have the Rifftrax commentary of Cats and I left thirty minutes in and have never tried to return yet. It seems incomprehensibly awful. I might finish it, then rewatched this review.

I saw the play in the big Apple and it was not fun. The songs were alright I guess. I don’t really remember. But the plot just didn’t exist. I still don’t know what a Jericho Cat is and I don’t ever really want to know.
This movie was shitty but in her defense it helped me understand the original play better😂, the only redeemable part was the memories song she did a great rendition sadly the rest of the movie was a stinker
I watched this awful movie for the first time a few weeks ago and I don't remember that show of them walking on the railroad tracks, at all, lol. I thought this movie was never going to end. Watching this movie is a real-life episode of Black Mirror. I rate it 3/10.

Of course you’re free to do things as you do them, but it would’ve been better for you to have done a little bit of research. Cats is based on a book of children’s poetry by TS Eliot. That is the source of the topics & characters. The song that Grizabella sings is one of the most beloved theater & pop songs. It too is based on a Puccini theme. By not acknowledging some basic information about the play your review sounds very uninformed. The reviews of the movie made it sound dreadful so I had no interest in going to see it. However, the original musical was extremely important to me when I was in my youth. Given how popular the musical was, I certainly was not alone, but you often ridicule the enjoyment that many of us experienced from the music and even the characters.
It's a film I never intend to see, that is universally loathed....so much so that wouldn't it make a great video if you actually found sincere reviews that LIKED or LOVED this movie, and comment on them?
