- Pokemon Competitive Singles saw Flutter Mane, the ancient Misdreavus, legal in OU for a shorter duration than it took me to reheat some Cold Pizza in the Microwave. This is perhaps the most powerful Non-Legendary Pokemon ever created. Flutter Mane is excellent in Gen 9 Ubers and also in VGC Doubles where it's the #1 most popular Pokemon. Let's explore the complex and nuanced reasoning as to why that is. (It's because it has very high stats.)
Iron Mugulis might be involved behind the scenes, according to some sources that are yet to be 100% verified.

@@jeffalcazar7005 Tapu Lele, a Pokémon that was/is notorious for being an insane special threat with specs, since moonblast is a really strong move and its other stab is boosted by the terrain it sets up. It also has focus blast, and calm mind to set up for non choice sets.
Basically just really threatening, if you’re making a team in a meta with Lele, you gotta make sure that team can stop it. Otherwise it’s an ass team.

Hey Flutter Mane is way worse than Misdreavus, it has less attack, defense, and HP!
I remember someone made the same claim with mega beedrill with its special attack
Hp is fine, mimikyu has less hp and can take some netural hits well when it's hp is maxed. My grip with Flutter is it absents in getting wil o wisp. Just got too stick with Charm

to be fair on misdreavus it was a top tier pokemon in gen 2 ou and is probably one of the best nfe's and lc mons of all time which is saying something.

It's also pretty decent in the current VGC format as a trick room support Pokémon.

It's really amazing how this little adventure with Iron Mugulis has increased the subscriber count by so much. Beforehand, it was close to 10% of viewers. Now it's over 30%.

I haven't played competitive for several generations but It's obvious why Flutter is dominating. Literally look at it's stats, typing, and the fact that it has protosynthesis. The only thing that could possibly hold it back is a bad move pool, but as long as it has good STAB ghost/fairy moves it's obviously gonna dominate. Those stats are better than some of the box art legends.

Actually the Misdreavus thing isn't true. Missy was actually one of the better spin blockers in it's Debut gen. And just saying, there's no little cup gen Misdreavus isn't banned.
For some unknown reason Dunsparce was banned before Misdreavus in gen9 LC

Misdrevous actually has a banned set in gen 2 ou. You are not allowed to have more the 2 of, hypnosis, perish song, and block.

Flutter Mane:
+ Faster than Jolteon
+ Higher Special. Attack than Espeon
+ Higher Special Defense than Umbreon
+ Ability improves its highest stat in Sunlight
+ Has STAB on two of the best offensive types in the game
+ No single type in the game resists both its types
+ Typing evens out one of Fairy's only two weakness (Poison) and one of Ghost's only two weaknesses (Dark)
+ Weak only to Steel and Ghost , which:
+ Steel are very slow and typically have low special defense, and Flutter Mane learns Mystical Fire (one of Steel's only weaknesses)
+ Ghost is one of only two types in the game that is weak to/super effective against itself (the other being Dragon), meaning some of the only effective counters against Flutter Mane are Mimikyu (another Ghost/Fairy) and... another Flutter Mane.
The fact that its Health and Defense are worse than even Rampardos are pretty insignificant considering that it hits faster and harder than almost everything else, and has enough special defense that it's pretty much impossible to OHKO with anything that isn't a physical attack.
What was Game Freak thinking when they made some of these Paradox Pokemon? This is some Magic the Gathering levels of power creep.
Flutter Mane reminds me of Aegislash in some ways, really strangely stacked stats that rival legendaries, and extremely good typing, turning an otherwise balanced pokemon into an Ubers smasher, except Flutter Mane isn't vulnerable to earthquake.
We are close to seeing Quaquaval use it’s powerful Rapid Spin move to save Sinistea from the Sticky Web!

I hate how absolutely busted it's stats are, but I like the design and line it pulls from. Also photosynthesis is such a lame ability along with it's electric counterpart, this goes for all the past and future mons but it feels like such a copout on giving them interesting and original abilities.

Okay I just want to vent my very unpopular opinion; I REALLY hate fluttermane, based on design only btw. It just looks so stupid. They tried to tack a cool and edgy look on mismagius, a Pokémon who very clearly looks like the baby Pokémon it is. It just looks so stupid and unbalanced, since it’s body remains the same. They could’ve made something so great if they used misdreaveus but no, they decided to use the baby version. Like, who authorized this? It just makes me absurdly angry. It looks like a middle schooler going through an emo phase
