Anders, I bought one of these for my 3 children (3,6,8 yrs old) because of you and David Murray's videos on this keyboard. I can say that it is very durable! They've played with it (a.k.a. tortured) for nearly 2 years. It has been through hundreds of AA batteries. I can also say that it is very forgiving about the input voltage from different power supplies, my 6 yr old son had to try every power supply in the drawer that would fit in the hole! Thanks for taking your time and making these interesting videos! I hope Casio knows that you sold at least 1 dx for them!
Every time you release a new track Anders, I'm forced to brush the dust off my Sega Megadrive to play a few games of Sonic the hedgehog in an attempt to find musical closure. lol
That’s because it’s basically the same. They used a DX7 (probably doubled and slapped some spacious reverb on it too). The Reface aims to recreate the original as close as it can with its four operators. :)
must be hard to play on top of mountain with freezing fingers... greets from Woody, amazing track as always, lush cinematography! you sold me on the reface dx!
Heheh... well.. the drums are unfortunately Zenhiser samples. I wish it had some sort of drumkit though. That would have been cool, albeit not true to the original DX. ;)
@@AndersEngerJensen Hi Anders. I more or less (re)discovered your work because of the Thomann Synth Reactor Event. I grew up with the Commodore 64 and I´m really happy to see that also a (slightly) younger generation is inspired by the eighties. The video you did with the 8-bit guy and your recent synthpop tutorials are really amazing. Just wanted to say: thank you.
Yeah, that was a coincidence, I had already shot and was had started editing the video when the fire started, but it can serve as a nice homage indeed. :)
😂😂 Not intended and certainly not affiliated. It was the only pair they had in rental there and Jon wanted to do a Game of Thrones thing. But it worked pretty good. 😁
Another similarity between our two countries is they both have fiords. A few months ago I made a video of visiting Milford Sound (using my own music), and I mentioned it to Anders. He told me that it did look like Norway, except for the tunnel.
@PARALLAX Master Tracks Pro MIDI sequencing software, running on an HP Windows 7 laptop. It drives a bunch of MIDI hardware - I don't have any software synths. I've had a listen to some of the music on your website. Thanks for giving me the link. But I think you're right. If you're interested in talking with me further, contact me via Facebook. I'm on there under my own name. Rather than hogging the comments section of Anders's video. Thank you for watching my video.
Hey, I'm really inspired by your beautiful performance. Do you think a person who knows nothing about music can learn music theory with a synth? I love music and I've been thinking about learning an instrument, should the synth be my first instrument to learn? Thanks!
Hi. Thank you, glad to hear that. :) Yeah, you can learn to play most keyboard instruments by using keyboards and synthesizers. It does have some limitations compared to techniques and classical training on pianos, but it depends on what your aim and approach is. If you want to make contemporary music, you can dive right in. But get a decent medium synth with features that will allow you to grow. I’d recommend something with an allround feature with multiple parts, and various broad spectre sounds so you can use it for all sorts of music. Also USB connection would be wise these days. Like Yamaha MODX or something like that from Roland, Korg or similar. :)
Haha, yeah... I guess you can say that. Albeit, I didn't grow up with the C64 and Amiga (we dived straight into the PC realm back then), but the MOD and tracker community was very much one of my inspiration sources.
Not yet, I use Distrokid for all those major stores outside BandCamp, TH-cam and SoundCloud. And releasing a bunch of singles causes hassle down the line when I want to release a full album with songs. It means I have to take stuff down, wait a week and reupload etc. But I’ll see what I can do. Haven’t decided yet if I should continue the Retro Grooves line or make something new and go for different names for my next albums. Got the game music I’m working on as well as some ideas though. We’ll see. :)
Ian Watson All releases are available on SoundCloud so that’s where I publish everything that’s worthwhile, then secondly the good stuff is uploaded on BandCamp for those wanting high quality downloads/streaming for a pretty penny, but not all the minor songs are there, like The B.Meowsic keyboard etc, a few of those are free downloads. Check the descriptions on videos and on SoundCloud. :)
Nice work!

You know it's a good Anders's song when you hear the nice synth and the iconic drum pattern (BD-BD-Snare).

0:18 What a smart camera angle!
This is some MTV-grade production quality clip. Amazing work, both music and video!
Somehow it reminds me of Run with Us from Lisa Lougheed (The Racoons Intro Song) :)
Amazing ! Happy owner of a Reface DX myself, this was really impressive and inspiring. Hope to see other songs heavily using this wonderful synth

Me too! the yamaha DX series and Megadrive OPN2 music are very similar, pure magic!
I love that shimmering arpeggio from the intro that keeps popping up during the second halves of the verses!
Fantastic ! The big bell sounds like the one in the Top Gun Anthem by Harold Faltermeyer.

Awesome as always Anders! Now that’s what I call a groove, with a view!!!
Superb as always my friend and the shots up there really adds to the production value. Let me get my Kvikk Lunsj! ;-)
they know each other omg

you sold me on the reface dx!
At least he actually "does" his own stunts. lol
I definitely want a Reface DX now!
This reminds me of the music to the racing game in Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. Thank you for the nostalgia trip!
Anders is the absolute wizard of the Reface DX. At 1:52 he even manages to get drums out of it.
Heheh... well.. the drums are unfortunately Zenhiser samples. I wish it had some sort of drumkit though. That would have been cool, albeit not true to the original DX. ;)

The bell of HOPE.

You can convert this track in A=432Hz scale, the natural A
wow what a nice nature! and great song!
nice music, nice flow
amazing
Awesome!!!
Very nice.
Great
I find all synthesis mind boggling, but I really want to get a reface dx to try and make something like this.
Super nice retro vibe groove! And those drone shots are amazing!! 60 fps ... Wohooo - Super!
I'm thinking of getting one of these. Great job!
VIC-20 I can recommend all of them, they all sound great and are quite flexible. (DX, CS, CP and YC). :)
@@AndersEngerJensen Thanks, that DT programmer for the DX looks really cool too.
Impressive job!
Best HEAD commercial I've ever seen!

Wonderfull :) Nice work! keep it going! 👍
Awesome stuff as always!
Thanks for filming and posting. Nice scenery - it reminds me very much of parts of my own country, New Zealand.
@PARALLAX Which part of New Zealand?
@PARALLAX That's okay. I was born and bred there, before moving south as a child.

love the lead sound, it's a reface DX patch?
Yeah, UniLead, default patch. I demonstrate it in the tutorial: th-cam.com/video/qxfppDr9j7o/w-d-xo.html :)
Will you put it on sound cloud as well?
