I am here to chime in that it indeed works. In my pre ear- plug days, I would epoxy small corks on my hooks to do that.... Was my big secret on Erie for a long time!
Hey Matt you sneaky, sneaky bass fisherman. Great tip thanks for all the stuff you've been teaching me all year. I don't get a chance to watch every video with these medical issues I have. I watch as much as I can. I always hit the like button. God bless you and your family.
You would not imagine that cheating in trout fly fishing is possible. However, if one listens to Kelly Galloup explain in his fly tying contest from May of 2020. His episode entitled 'Kill the Corona Contest: Winner of the Nymph Category'. It is where Kelly had to explain (sort of like a Tournament Director who was fooled at a weigh-in). Kelly had been completely fooled, and he was very angry. That someone had entered a fly. Which they had really purchased from a maker in Scandinavia. Two trout anglers from Canada, had entered into Kelly's fly tying contest. Claiming it as their own work. If you look at the earlier episode on the selection of the best-made 'streamer' fly. Kelly had earlier sung in praises of this fly. And had chosen it as the winner of it's category. After, he then had to reverse that decision. When the cheating was uncovered. The lure had been sold commercially. It had come from the fly making bench of a commercial maker. Who is the best lure maker in the world. Of that kind of trout lure.
Very interesting way to rig a tube, I never thought of using earplugs but that is an awesome idea, we always turn to the Professor for our bait hacks… thanks!!!
Used earplugs back in the 80's/90's in the old Gitzits. Played with the alka seltzer trick way back when for dead sticking, get random movement and bubbles using just the old HP hooks with the clip for weight, now other options available. The ear plugs are PVC, closed cell. Probably holds some scent in the texture. but they're made for ears so probably no absorbing qualities. Could just go Power Bait. Love the tube. Great fish catcher with no negative cues and great trailer for a lot of applications. Good Video.
I guess only real special people get to wear it. lol. I see u and Randy Blaukat rock them in ur vids! From Canada, I didn't know what Bridgford was lol.
Thanks Matt. I did this in the late 90s with ear plugs. I pushed my mono thru the head out the tail. Stuffed the ear plug in. Tied a #6 treble and pulled it into the tentacles flush to the back of the tube. Carolina rig worked but it was a cool top water. Hook ups were 100%. Don't even remember why I quit using it.
It is good idea. I started messing with tubes about 4 months ago. Did not fish with tube offen about 3 times in 20 years. So I fix all may regular lures. So was time to se if can fix tube how I think shou be. So fix tube on similar way. Trayed ear plugs . Didn't work wright Problem was with hock. So I found beter way. Wright way. Can use hock with any lenght No problem. Beautiful. And swimming down slow. For on hock stoper plastic ben works just fine. Ofcuse can't tell more ditails. But want to tell you you are ok, you going there. Thanks for video showing other gays to think about this
Haven't done this lately but use to I used cork a short piece of aluminum arrow shaft cuts a perfect plug. I also would cut a 6" lizard about an inch in front of the back legs and super glue it in the tube fish it on top or c-rig. Your ear plug looks easier are they real buoyant?
That's a great tip! It seems to me that you could almost turn a tube into something like a hollow bodied frog with that setup. I wonder how well that would work.
Something to try is to take alka shelter and put a small piece inside the tube to give it some bubbling action. Drives bass insane especially during prespawn

awesome! thanks for the support!

That is a really clever modification.
thanks!
I think that is a pretty neat idea that corner like it
thanks!
I’ve been trying for years to get those type ear plugs to absorb scent to no avail YET ! Great info bud
thanks!
Thanks Matt great tip!
You bet!
Great idea
Thank you! 😊
Juice! Thanks!!

Great info, Matt, I have been using those styrofoam packing peanuts and this has worked excellent over the years for me.
Great to hear!
I had forgotten about this, but it is worth a listen to. From May of 2020.

thanks for sharing!
Great improvement!!!! Will be trying it for sure next season!!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!!!
Thanks, you too!
I sometimes use the tube as a power ned rig. Ear plugs are free at work.
Nice!
That's something I have been doing for 15-20 years ! Their are other applications that ear plugs are good for! And they do hold scent !
agreed
Love it!
Thanks!!
Thanks Matt!! Have a great week! Hope you get your boat....
me too!
The mods are great. Thanks Matt.
Glad you like them!
I don't use earplugs for logging or yard work, but certainly for shooting anything more than 22lr!
nice!

i love powerbait as well!
Wow, I’ve been using earplugs since the 90s!
Nice!
Great tip Matt, will definitely give it a try.
Nice!
I love the large tubes for flipping. I get a lot of bites on the larger tubes
stick with what you have confidence in
I'll try it
Nice!
This work great when using tunes on a swing head jig
Nice!
I’ll have to try that trick! I wonder if the foam would hold scents 🤔?? Thanks Matt!!
Too funny - I was wondering the same thing!
Yeah I’m think I’m gonna try that and then put it on the shank of a finesse or football jig and then hang a chunk on the end. I hope it works!
i bet it does
Thanks for the tip, I don't use tubes down here in South Florida but I'll come up with something.
you can apply it to other things
Hi Matt! I love ur vids. Most important question I have is, where can I get a hat like urs? Love it.
Unfortunately Bridgford doesn't sell them
I guess only real special people get to wear it. lol. I see u and Randy Blaukat rock them in ur vids! From Canada, I didn't know what Bridgford was lol.

I get a kick modifying lures, obviously you do to. Ever have anything marketed?
coming soon!
I had no idea you were affiliated with Bass Fishing Declassified. Glad you mentioned it - I just subscribed.
Awesome! Thank you!
🍺Thanks Matt.

thanks for sharing with us!
Great video! Been using the ear plugs for a while, but never with rattles. Definitely going to add some!
awesome!
I did this a LONG time ago using hollow craw baits....not going to tell you the crude name I had for this version of the c-rig. I also used ear plugs.
haha!

Thanks for the tips. How did you attach the rattle on the hook?
They are bought like that, alot of different brands.
they come like that
Hi Mike, this is off topic, but are there any rods under a $100 bucks that you would recommend?
I havent bought any rods in the past 7 years so its hard to recommend any. But i think most of the major rod brands produce great rods for $100
Have you ever used a snap so you didn't have to retie every time you changed tubes?
Yep but i prefer tying direct
Some unsolicited feedback... Using a tank or underwater coverage to illustrate your point might prove beneficial. IMHO.
thanks
Pay Matt comment
thanks!
Great tip Matt, will definitely give it a try.
awesome!
