Normal lung vs. pneumothorax

  • On the unaffected side we see A lines, pleural sliding (in B mode) and seashore sign (in M mode).
    On the affected side we see A-lines, absence of pleural sliding (in B mode) and "barcode sign" (in M mode). The latter is also known as the "stratosphere" sign.

    I’m just curious. If you had a hemothorax with a pneumo, would you still have absence of lung sliding due to the blood in the pleural space??

      Still no lung sliding as the visceral and parietal pleura are still not in contact with each other producing the shimmering effect

      you would not see lung sliding. just think like when you see pneumothorax and effusion with it. blood will go below due to gravity, you can differentiate it like that. if you slide the transducer below no lung sliding, just hypoechoic image.
