I love the Ocean's 11 Space Race, but I feel like Hela doesn't count because she was not in some form of space ship. But it is your chart. Never stop doing these kinds of silly charts! Love this show @DanMurrell
The Ocean's 11 Space Race discussion regarding Don Cheadle's eligibility IF he appears in Space Jam 2 (and of course the Meowntdown) is why I come to this channel. Shhhh be sure to tell Dan and Lon my subscription to this channel is primarily for that charting chatter.
Solaris (G. Clooney)
I've already seen it yesterday and it was a wild rollercoaster intense violent disturbing film and I enjoyed it and thanked God nothing happens at the movie theater.
Joker's worldwide opening weekend is $248.2M
2 movies are about villians. 2 movies are about Space. 1 movie is about a villian from Space. COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT!
I’d come back every week to watch you guys just talk about box office headlines, but random bits like the Ocean’s space race is what makes this show! Love it.
Can’t believe the Oceans 11 Top space race movies are here. This is a hilarious record to keep track of.
I love the picture in my mind of Dan watching Space Jam 2 and spending the first quarter distracted thinking "I hope that Don goes to space..." and then when he realises Don is one of the animated aliens spending the last three quarters thinking "I don't know if it counts if only his voice goes to space" :D :D :D
Lon’s impression of Jason Derulo as Rum Tum Tugger is my new favourite thing ever.
Ain't no breakfast on Tuesday without some charting with Dan, what gloriousness that we get an extra long episode!
To have a been a fly on the wall while Dan and Lon came up with the Oceans-verse in Space parameters...
Joaquin Phoenix showed why he is the best actor right now.
Leonardo Decaprio
@@Train1587 If you seen films like The Master, You Were Never Really Here, Her, Inherent Vice, Gladiator and Walk the Line then you'd see how brilliant Phoenix is.
JustTooLit The Departed Blood Diamond Wolf of Wall Street Aviator .... in my opinion I think Leo is better. I have seen all you mentioned
@@Train1587 lets agree to disagree then lol i seen all of leo's filmography too and hes good but i believe joaquin is better
JustTooLit Daniel Day Lewis beats them all... lol
Oh good! I was worried it might not be out today. Always love to chart!
Charting continues to be the highlight of my Monday night!
The Meowtdown is like a cherry on top of that.
30:07 Dan loses connection with the material realm for a moment.
Nathan DeSa • it’s a glitch in the Charting matrix. Lol. Call Neo!
Roth's cgi disguise slipped for a split second.
Nathan DeSa, Dan has to get back to HIS universe. 👨🏻🦲🤟🏻🕸
He was charting so hard he nearly broke the time space continum.
Hes.......beginning to believe!
Matt Damon was in Thor ragnorok
That’s right, but theoretically he didn’t leave the ground and stayed in Asgard. There was no space journey, outer space scene etc.
He was also in Deadpool 2 but cameos don't really count.
Also Deadpool 2 never had space in it.
@@SeriousStriker Damon was an astronaut twice. In Interstellar and The Martian. And I didn't see it but wasn't Elysium a sci fi movie?
Joe McKim He wasn’t in space onscreen in Interstellar, he was in space in Elysium
Joker is a breakthrough psychological thriller, full of sheer emotions, and brilliant performance by Joaquin Phoenix!!!A Marvel!A gem!!! Oscar, for sure!!!
Yes! Thank you for posting, my Monday isn’t complete without my charts from dan
I love this show all the time but there's a special excitement in wondering what cat will be covered this week.
If someone didn't know who the Joker is and looks at Todd Phillips filmography he/she would say "Joker has to be funniest movie of all, probably has the funniest guy"
Finally! I’ve been waiting for Rum Tum Tugger’s time to shine on the Meowuntdown 👌🏼 I’m so ready for the Magical Mister Mistoffolles ✨
Clearly the main takeaway from this episode of Charting is that October - a good month for half-face character posters.
Arguably, Julia Roberts went to space in Hook. She flew toward a star in the sky and went straight on 'til morning, ending up in Neverland.
I'm pretty sure Mindy Kaling was also in space at some point in A Wrinkle in Time. I can't confirm because I haven't gotten around to watching it.
Sarah Paulson traveled to another planet in Serenity (2005), but I'm not sure whether that counts for the list, because it was her ancestors that left Earth, not her character specifically.
Joaquin really elevates almost every story he is a part of.
I’ve watched Walk the line, Inherent Vice, Don’t worry, he won’t get far on foot last week and Joker on Friday to close my Phoenixathon.
TheSiemek you have to watch his movie “Her”!!!!!!
also,"Dead To Me". Fantastic early Joaquin Phoenix, good movie too.
Ryan Mayo I’ve watched in cinema few years ago ;)
I am waiting for streaming release of “You were never really here”
Yeah I went through a huge Joaquin Phoenix fangirl phase in the early 2000's and watched any movie I could get my hands on that he appeared in. I remember really crushing on his more 'romantic' roles in "Inventing the Abbotts", "Quills" & yes, even "Gladiator" (even though it's his sister who he's infatuated with...ewww). More recently I really liked another quasi-tortured romantic role (albeit a fairly disturbing one) he played in "The Immigrant". He excels in every film I've ever seen him in, frankly, even as a troubled young teen in "Parenthood", trust me - even way back then, in a kinda-cheesy movie, you could see his undeniable talent shining through.
Watch The Master
I have a bad feeling that Dan’s behind-the-scenes explanations of the history of CATS performances is much more entertaining than the movie CATS is going to be.
There were also 80,000,000 fewer people in America in 1989.
“He made the line of text too long” 😂 love this show👊🏽
Always nice when the best movie gets the biggest share of the weekend. Joker was sensational.
Rihanna also technically goes to space in the 2015 animated film "Home"
You guys make my Monday bearable. Thank you @Screenjunkies
I would totally watch a 30 minute episode of Meet the Cats, but I'm also afraid it would be the episode that finally breaks Dan.
The cats manage to get more ridiculous every week.
I remember Blade Runner 2049 only made $32 million opening weekend 2 Octobers ago. It still hurts 🙁
DONT REMIND ME
No one saw the first one. I saw that coming a mile away.
It does
Biggest Takeaway from this Week's Charts:
Don Cheadle is #1
Don Cheadle is a joke. He drags a movie or TV show down.
Thank you Lon, you singing Rum Tum Tugger is exactly what i needed this morning
Joker's worldwide opening weekend is $248.2M
LMAO I remember this 2014 Cats production. We were on a tour to London to watch some musicals, walked past the theatre where it was playing and all 8 of us were like "nope, not happening." 😂
doesn’t George Clooney, technically, go to space, in Batman & Robin during that rocket scene?
I want to see a Joker style serious origin movie for Professor X. He was bullied but could feel the pain of his bully being punished. There's a ton of potential with his backstory.
The internet tells me only about Funko-branded Joker cereal. That's the real Killing Joke™
Way to long a fan of Screen Junkies and I can honestly say Chating with Dan has become my favorite show on the channel. Keep up the good work Dan. Cheers from Australia
What a beautiful end to this Monday!
They Poochied Rum Tum Tugger. London, how dare you?! 🤣
Katie Mantz they good popcorn films. 11 & 8 are the best ones
The best part of Monday’s ❤️🎥
Love the Cats discussion! Dan, you need to watch the first Cats movie before watching this new one. I really hope yall do an Honest Trailers video of it. :)
Wait, what first Cats movie? Do you mean the filmed Broadway version or did I miss something? 😅
The best Rum Tum Tugger and the cats don’t look uber creepy.
@@Phelie315 yes I mean the filmed Broadway. I still consider that a movie though.
I agree, the Cats (1998) filmed Broadway movie is fantastic and since you guys are using photod of the actors from that movie (in the side-by-side comparison shots with the Cats from the new movie), you may as well just watch the movie. The costumes and makeup are stunning in the Broadway movie and just looking at the side-by-side pictures during the Meowntdown segment makes me want to revisit the original movie again and seeing the shots of the new movie just makes me want to avoid the new film like the plague...but I'll probably eventually watch it one day out of morbid curiosity. :P
I really wish I had a job where I got to debate what qualifies an Ocean's Franchise trip to space. Absolutely love the unique charts like that! Keep bringing them on.
Personally, I don't like the addition of Marvel characters going to space in the Ocean's Eleven Space Race.
I'm with Lonn, I'd prefer it being a "realistic" version of space, or a regular human going to space.
But it's your chart, so you do you Dan.
Interesting either way.
Also interesting how Matt Damon keeps going to space
I love the nostalgia that comes along with the show, Lon always points out how cinemas worked back in the days. Being in the same generation like Dan and Lon (maybe even a bit older) I just love it...
My guy Lon with the fresh shaved beard. Loved the show fellas, as always.
Although I watched your review and heard what you said about Joker, I was still shocked and surprised by the movie. It did things to my mind and my emotions, that I could have never imagined a movie could do. Having been in Hongkong while watching it, added another level of discomfort, sitting in the cinema, munching popcorn, watching riots and police brutality (or violence against the police), burning cars and masked people, while knowing that outside just a couple blocks away similar scenes took place in real life, in reality, the lives of people being threatened, was...well...I don't have any words for it.
Been waiting for this.
Hype and curiosity can only carry a movie so much. It's the content which makes or breaks a movie. The joker's content is amazing.
CHARTTTTTTTTTTTTS
Lon: "6 to 8 would have been like the most in any theater."
Suburban strip mall theaters: "hold my popcorn"
One of the best parts of this episode was the laughter at 34:28 coming from off camera.
The way Dan says Almodóvar is both endearing and stressful.
I saw BATMAN 1989 in a Detroit Movie House. It had 2 Screens and it was a stand alone building. Lines were wrapped around the building threefold
I got to see Parasite last week at our film festival and it was great. Can't wait to hear your thoughts, Dan.
Dan & Lon, fyi, by my count you still have 10 (!!) main character cats to go on your Meowntdown "Meet the Cats" list! And that's not even including the 9 other supporting character cats, that appear in the musical and have names. Maybe combine a few that kinda come as a package deal (Mungojerrie and Rumpleteaser, Bombalurina and Demeter) to get through the names in time for when the movie premieres? Good luck! Loving the Meowntdown so far (and this is coming from a huge "Cats" fan)! I look forward to your bemused reactions to the Cat names, and the "Cats" World in general, every week! Keep up the great work! 😁
35:47 "He has to show up and sing his own name at the beginning of his song..."
That's literally what Rum Tum Tugger does. The start of his song is "The Rum Tum Tugger is a curious cat." The tune that Lon did is surprisingly close to the actual song.
Joaquin has been the criminally underrated actor of this generation. Every movie he is in you notice him no matter how good or bad the movie is overall. He stole gladiator in my opinion
Congratulations to Joaquin Phoenix
*You know what's funny?*
*You know what really makes me laugh?*
*I've always thought the MCU was a comedy*
*But now I realized it's a fucking tragedy*
why would non film producer people read a script for film they have not seen?
Great video as always. I love the ocean space race segment.
So, they planned wearing matching shirts?
It's called branding
Jada Clark or cheap wardrobe for people probably not paid a lot
I don't get the controversy though. The violence was so timid. Asian horror films are 10x more horrific.
People we’re supposedly going to wear clown masks and shoot up stuff or some crap like that
Rap Battle Dan "Was that fair? I don't know, I've never even seen the original show."
a lot of critics are saying this is a great film, but none of them are saying i can't wait to see it again. the 2nd week drop will be 65-68%
rurutu M critics don't matter there are plenty of people that can't wait to see it again. I'm going tomorrow
Nah. People don't pay attention to the critics as much anymore.
I mean .... I'm honestly wondering about people who want to see more than maybe twice in the theaters. It may look like a good movie, but it doesn't look like a fun one..
If the movie makes 120 million dollars its a success imo
prince apoopoo I think it's fun in a different way. But I just want to see if I can find things I missed the first time.
Rum tug tuuuuuuuger! 😭😭
I don't think people ever gave War Dogs the time of day.
but it was golden a true gem. truly amazing
Man, this meowtdown is wild and I am here for it.
Top tier meowntdown this week 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Batman 89 although it was in theaters for a bit, it was also rushed to VHS Nov 15 of 89. Which was a big deal back in the day. It was also around $100 to purchase on VHS.
Hey guys, suggestion for the future: I love that you guys solve the problem of inflation with the BITS index. And doubling the budget as a rough estimate of true movie release cost, but how about information (I assume just estimates) of how much of the ticket revenue actually goes to the studio/production. With the difference of that figure from foreign to domestic sales, it must be interesting to see the true box office return a studio sees to better understand success vs flop, and how they'll strategize a film to target foreign vs domestic markets. But most importantly, an questionably accurate attempt and hypothesizing how much the true $$ return was.
why so cereal?
I was going to post the same thing, but couldn't decide on your post or "Why no cereal?". Great minds think alike, right? :-)
Space and Dark story movies works in Late Fall/winter is that the darkness of the natural seasons with reduce lightening which rises the senses and creepy crawlies.. The mindset is then ready for the films.
Yes the “big” multiplex by me as a kid in the 80s was 8 screens. People complained about that being too big and ruining the theater going experience as the screens got smaller. The smaller theaters fought against the multiplex by saying they had bigger screens and come see the movie the way it was meant to be seen
Crazy how little in comparison Gladiator made in its opening, considering all the acclaim that movie has
xx AKSHUN xx • I think that was also a time where opening weekend wasn’t a big thing. Nowadays, you gotta go opening weekend to avoid spoilers. Back 15 years ago, a film could wait a few weeks.
Joker was so good.
I went Saturday morning and surprisingly there weren’t a lot of people. So I am glad it did well in the box office!
It’s definitely a movie I want to see again, as well.
Been waiting for the Rumtumtugger talk haha!
Just purchased my ticket and will be going tomorrow afternoon.
Parasite is AMAZING especially if you're familiar with Bong Joon Ho's style.. Hilarious tbh. :D Loved it a lot.
The Joker film is his origins story. It was emotionally touching without the explosions in his struggle to live a honest good life and his struggling with his mental illness and the hatred society had for him. Once he gave into his dark side (because of rejection by society), is when he went really bad. The Africans have a proverb. If you do not give emotional warmth and acceptance of your young, then they will warms themselves when they return when they burn down the village.
I don't think Joker opened in China, PRoC. It opened in Taiwan and will open in Hong Kong.
22:15 😅😅😅 looks like me and friends discussions before the rpg start.
When recapping the meowntdown: the recat? the recatcap? the cat recap?
Just recat?
Dan, you will LOVE parasite! such a great movie, best of the year so far...
I'm waiting for the cat named Skimbleshanks (yes, that's a real thing)... Jon Schnepp we miss you!!
Great show guys.
Love the show!
An almost forty minute episode of charting! Well, this sure ain't a joke.
I'm allergic to cats too, Dan (and secretly love them). I feel your pain.
My Favorite Show Ever...Charting With Dan
I really hope more Ocean's franchise cast members do going to space movies. This list is awesome.
I wonder if part of its success is that for the last six months all we've heard about is goddamn Marvel and casual fans are flocking to "Joker" as a way of lodging a silent protest 🤷♂️🤔
Oceans Space Race: Wrinkle in Time -Mindy Kaling; Solaris - George Clooney; ??Passangers - Andy Garcia
Is that Danielle laughing at 34:30? 😂😂😂
Joker is so good
As always - thank you so much for the BITS numbers! Now let me jump off this video before you start that "cats" bullshit! LOL
Didn't Don Cheadle go to space before Marvel? 2000's Mission to Mars
Jeff • he did! Good movie. That film was mentioned last week.
And in this list too.
I wish some of these foreign films and more niche or indie films could get a Fathom event. I can't make it to a big city but would love to have an opportunity to see parasite.
Erm Dan. What about Solaris remake for ocean’s space race.
Do we consider Matt Damon's Asgardian actor as "in space" in Ragnarok?
