I bought a 45 year old boat off craigslist for a grand. It was in awful shape. I wet sanded the entire boat and waxed and buffed to a mirror shine. I tore out the old carpet and seats and glued new carpet and put new fabric on all of the seats. I made a new bimini and fitted top on my sewing machine. I rewired everything and then rebuilt both carbs, rebuilt the fuel pump, new water pump and resealed the lower unit, and then repainted the motor 85 evinrude. The boat looks brand new. I did some research a discovered that only 50 of this boat was ever made. I've had several people offer me as high as $25k for it. But I'll never sell it, it's always the talk of the dock. It's the first boat I've ever done and I learned everything watching videos like yours. Thank you! I got my dream boat for a grand and 1100 in new parts.
Excellent joke Rev :) got one for you what did Spark plug say to the Spark Wire ? Spark Plug said Spark Plug Wire we going have a big lock snapping of time tonight and anytime also don't fail now !
Wow that Yamaha didn't need too much after 18 years - not too bad! Pretty cool to see that old boat up on plane again. I'd definitely like to see the rest of the boat get restored as well!
I sure miss my 17' Boston Whaler with a 15hp Honda Trolling Motor & 65hp Mercury Outboard... Trolling the South Puget Sound with my Brother was the best of times 8years ago. We may have caught fish, but we had a grand time!
I restored a very similar boat, got a season out of it, one day I was heading home and hit a wave and the fiberglass cracked in the back and it sank quick. Super scary almost died, careful with old sitting boats, even if you don’t see any dry rot
I used to own a Boston whaler with that exact motor on it man when you fire that thing up it brought back a whole Lotta of memories I always loved Yamaha motors and it sounded fantastic when you opened it up way to go guys 👍🏼
20:22. "Crescent wrench". " Crescent" was one of the brands of tools made by the Cooper Group. Their adjustable wrenches were famous worldwide. Some of their other brands were Lufkin measuring tapes, Nicholson files, Weller soldering irons, Xcelite mechanic tools among others. Trinidad & Tobago.
I was picking up an old sewing machine and while out behind the house I saw the tip of a boat and trailer poking out of a bunch of brush. It was an Arkansas Traveler 14’ runabout. Very cool little lapstrake hull design, but the interior was destroyed. After the owner telling me if I could get it out of there I could have it, I went to work trying to get it out. Evidently, bees like boats, lol. A LOT of bees living in there after sitting there for over 30 years along with the probably 10 generation mice. The vintage Evinrude was destroyed by mouse urine so I found an old Mercury Classic 50 to match up the horsepower. After fully restoring the whole thing, I had myself a BEAUTIFUL little vintage runabout that grabbed attention everywhere I took it. I think my favorite thing about it was that early 1960’s turquoise and white steering wheel and the cool chrome part designs all around the boat. Very cool and a lot of fun.
I'm telling you from my experience with Yamaha replace the thermostats and water pump pull the prop and check seal for fishing line drop the lower unit oil and replace fill & drain plug gaskets ect.
I love a McKee craft! My buddy had one a little smaller than yours I weigh 300 lb and I could stand on the corner of it and fish no lean no list a great fishing platform great boat
It never freaking fails. Same thing with my boat it starts on a dime sitting in the damn driveway you put it in the lake and it turns and turns in charge it’s just absolutely insane
that ole 150 sounds good. could use a little more horse power with all three of you in it. install the complete intake and carbs from a 200hp. its a bolt on and will increase the hp. it will run almost like a 200hp. exhaust ports and compression holds it back from being a 200.
Awesome!! Thanks so much! Sorry it’s taken so long to get the full rebuild uploaded. We’ve gotten the new transom in and will have an update on it very soon!
Good video, Yamaha make great outboards … we use them on our diving support vessel .. the only thing I would had done differently, would be pulling the air intake cover just in case those pesky mice had been in there, before cranking, to avoid getting crap sucked through the reeds .. the engine was really on song .. good job 👍🏻
Mind boggling why someone would just let a beauty like that just sit and rot away! Can't beat a Yamaha! Can't wait to see that baby in it's new tux! Oh yeah, and whatever became of the Hilux? I've been looking for one like that to restore! Had one years, ago identical to the one you got, same color and all! Loved that little truck! Love to find another one! Kudos men! Watched all 3 of your boat vids!
My uncle used to have an old McKee Craft just like that but with a 90 Johnson on the back. Man we tore up black river on that thing. Learned how to kneeboard behind it. Good memories. Just found your channel, definitely subbed! I knew I recognized that SC accent anywhere 😂 Shout out from Myrtle Beach! 🤙
Didn't realize you were in the upstate! I'm over in the Norris area myself. I was at mile creek a couple weeks ago. Nice boat, I need to find me one like that.
Those old McKee Craft boats are odd looking, especially the little ones, but there is a lot of boating history behind them, and they are usually worth saving.
If they're all at a hundred then you have a harborfreight pressure gauge or cheap pressure gauge that doesn't have a Schrader valve built into the hose.
Yeap! Reads about 15psi low lol..Seems my “nice” one is constantly getting swapped out under warranty. Would love to find an old school Mac or something!
Ive resurrected motors that sat many years..... If you want the motor to last you do it right. Oil cylinders before you even try to rotate it by hand. Spray fogging oil into the reeds. Pull the plugs if it won't rotate Easily by hand is rusted in place and you're going to have cylinder damage, at that point you might as well trash it .. because it's not going to last. Pull the heads and inspect the cylinders. Clean the water jackets and replace water diverters. If there's any water pressure gauge pickup tube it will need to be replaced Reassemble the heads with new head gasket and water gasket. Replace every part of the fuel system . Fuel pumps, every hose part, primer system, filters. Drain and clean the boat's fuel tank. Make sure there's no obstructions in the vent, no dirt, bugs. Now clean and rebuild the carburetors. Change the water pump impeller and the thermostats. Pressure test the lower unit and replace any seals that need to be replaced on it. Crank it on 25:1 premix ... Let it idle for the first hour. Now you can go run it gradually increasing rpm.... For 5 to 10 minutes at a time..... Still running it on 25:1. After about 2 hours of running, run at wot on 50 to 1.for 30 min. You're probably good if no problems. You going to need new battery of course to do this. You will spend $800..... To bring an old outboard back to life that's worth $800. Outboards are very well lubricated, they can sit for years without problem. But all the peripheral systems fall apart. What most idiots do, is trying crank immediately..... Which damages the cylinders . Then they try and run it with crudded up carbs and it runs lean. People destroy; old motors everyday out of sheer laziness.
I see your Sea Don'ts and raise ya a Flood a Two Stroke? Is that possible? Pretty sure, Two Strokes can eat all ya feed em and the excess just runs out the exhaust ports into the water.
at 29:00, the boat's flying...and the view of that shredded, beat-up chair is the perfect summary of a cool project

Most definitely! It was a great time!
Sorry about all my corny Dad jokes but thanks for having me!
That’s the fun part! 🤣😂
Excellent joke Rev :) got one for you what did Spark plug say to the Spark Wire ? Spark Plug said Spark Plug Wire we going have a big lock snapping of time tonight and anytime also don't fail now !

I thought so too 🤣

I like how he went through the motor taking it one step at a time, impressive.
She sounds healthy. Can’t believe she floats after all them years of sitting. Brilliant work and thanks for sharing this with us take care
Thanks so much as always!! Can’t wait to get the boat dialed in as nice as the motor 😊

Hi Mike and David and Hank nice video 📹 and workmanship Boat 🚢 Sounds nice
Those v4 & v6 carb'd yamaha's are some of the most bulletproof motors ever made...I've had a couple over the years & they've been nothing but perfect.
Very cool. Owned a McKee for years. Best boats ever made. Unsinkable

@@BudgetBuildz Did you ever get it all cleaned up?
Can't wait for the full restoration of the boat. Great job guys.
Thanks so much! We’re in the process of getting it knocked out!
What a great idea to do a restoration in conjunction with two other channels to speed up the job. Well done y’all.
Thanks!!
What is the guy that rebuilt the carburetors channel? @budget buildz
Waay Too Cool💯🤙🏻 My Favorite Part Was The Weed Still Growing And Having Fun With You Guys😁😆 Love It!!
Hanks voice on a boat video just takes some getting use to! Great video guys!
I have a 1988 McKee craft offshoreman. Center console... it would be an awesome Lil boat when fixed... it was actually given to me...
Brilliant fun. Engine came round quick for one that’s sat 18 years
Thanks! 😃😃 Good ole Yamaha 2 stroke 👌
the best part of this is going 33 mph on the lake with a live tree growing in the boat. Nice work guys.
Headed over to hanks channel to check it out! That weed still being there is HILARIOUS! hahahaha. Great video.
Great video. Thank you for this and Revstoration's video on how this motor was revived. Look forward to seeing how the boat gets cleaned up next.
Thank you for this beautiful restoration. For me in France it would be a dream to come across this type of boat. Looking forward Pierre 👍🛥️

Thanks
Love the vegetation flopping in the wind!
The shrubbery blowing in the wind was a great touch, I’m sure other boaters thought you were nuts
I had a 17 foot one with a center cancel. I had a Johnson GT 150 on her. Was the best for waterskiing and tubing.
Budget Build in 2031: Will this forgotten space shuttle fly after 20 years?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
😁😁 You know it!!
I will bet Rev brought his tackle box looking to do the first week testing. Hank barely needed his left handed metric crescent wrench. Nice.

Didn't realize you were in the upstate! I'm over in the Norris area myself. I was at mile creek a couple weeks ago. Nice boat, I need to find me one like that.
Minus the rats nest, that Yamaha was super clean. That’s surprising considering how long it has been sitting.
Those old McKee Craft boats are odd looking, especially the little ones, but there is a lot of boating history behind them, and they are usually worth saving.
i just purchased a '85 17 footer . I've always wanted one !!!!!
Cool old boat great video enjoy watching keep the great work
