Kaguya throwing that tantrum in front of Ishigami also shows she's opening up a bit too. Not to mention that she doesn't really deny liking Shirogane, but that might be because he's had her rumbled since Day 1.
Some notes on the exam scores: Saburo Toyosaki and Go Kazamatsuri are Miyuki's friends who invited him to the mixer. They are actually also pretty smart and capable. Untranslated were the scores of the 3rd years: The Cheer Captain got #4 and Tsubame #7. She is not only really pretty and kind but also quite smart and talented in many other ways hence her being known as an "unattainable" girl.
We cant look over the fact that Ishigami knows a lot of romantic things and somehow he's still on this state. He's like a blessed Hikigaya Hachiman. I mean, jesus christ, flower lore and the photo album idea? If this guy wasnt traumatized in his middle school he wouldve been the intellectual playboy that you occasionally see in shoujo manga (and he wouldve been wearing boxers too!)

I wouldnt say he "knows" about romantic stuff. He often rather comes extremely naive/creepy. He's heart isnt in the wrong place, but at this stage of lifes, things are more simple than they seem so. Basically, just ask her a day out. Just make up an excuse if you need so.
Kaguya and Ishigami becomes the best platonic relationship in the series. Ishigami started fearing her and then they became really close friends that help each other with their respective problems. It's really a nice detail in a romcom to have a male/female relationship that doesn't involve romance or sexual attraction. It's really hard to find a simple friendship between members of opposite sex in manga and this is one of the best examples. Kaguya sama has one of the best character developments I have seen in romcoms in years.
I really like the "older sister-younger brother" relation Kaguya and Ishigami have. You can see they really care for each other: Kaguya goes out of her way to actively help Ishigami, and Ishigami goes the extra mile to not let Kaguya's effort go to waste. Also the fact that Kaguya wants to see Ishigami improve not to conquer a girl but to improve his selfsteem and personal image and use that to achieve his goals.
he's doing it for himself too, that was kinda Kaguya's point in telling him to aim to get better in school because it would help instill in him the confidence to do what he wants which is to ask Tsubame out in this case
YES! i also love the chemistry between kaguya and ishigami. like the way i see it, ishigami acts more like his age when he's with kaguya and despite her *ehem* eccentricity, i love how she would open up to him as well. also, can we talk about how good of a brother shirogane is to kei? ;~; i melt every time he calls her kei-chan ;~;
The dynamics between characters in this show is what makes it so good in my opinion. It’s a sign of fantastic writing when you can write random scenarios with your characters and it still works. Love is War definitely has that!
Especially when they aren't even that close as friends lol. Imagine someone you're friendly with gifting you a photo book of themselves with the caption "I want to fill my next album with photos of the two of us."

They put that reference here to show the resemblance of thinking between Iino & Kaiji on "taking every advantage to win".

Well to be fair, out of *any* character in the anime so far - we've seen the *most* on Ishigami as a character. The other characters' content about them as individuals have yet to be animated or dived as deeply into with their complexes. Miko to some degree with her backstory. But I'm saying this as a manga reader. lol
As manga reader the rest of the cast except Fujiwara receives tons of development later in the story. At this point Ishigami is a fan favourite because his past is already revealed. At the end of this season probably many characters will rise in people's rankings.
Something really nice nobody usually gets In season 1 when Kaguya ends up second behind Shirogane, narrator says she'd throw a fit if she wasn't in public, but now she throws a fit in front of Ishigami, showing that she's actually more comfortable with him than with other people, since she doesn't really care about covering her true self, or that she trusts him a lot
The side interactions have been expanded upon more in the mean time while the main dynamic takes more of a back seat, but will be getting more with the main plot later in the season once the main arc starts within the next few episodes.
So I learnt this from another comment on another reaction so thank you but there's another reason Ishigami's flower idea is quite creepy. The Japanese language is quite complex but the word he used to spell out "I love you" with those flowers is saying it in a way that really only married people (or those already in a serious relationship) would say it and even than it's not common to hear it used. In a basic way you have three levels of "I love you" in Japanese with each one increasing in meaning. Most common that we all know is Daisuke than comes Aishiteru (Ishigami used this word) after that is Koishiteru (You're unlikely to hear this one but it's basically I'll love you forever).
Kaguya commenting on the riddle part is hilarious if you read the official doujin. In one of the doujin’s Alternate Universes, she tries to confess to Shirogane (who’s working as a cashier), by buying things spelling the same thing in the receipt.
Actually the anime did *skip* a cute chapter with Kaguya and Miyuki (ch 92), where they were actually openly talking to each other alone and basically flirting. Shirogane wanted to test something out on Kaguya. It had a heartwarming moment at the end too. It seems skipped since there was a brief flashback to a scene from that chapter to give context on why Hayasaka was mad at Kaguya having fun lately in the karaoke episode. Feel free to check out manga just for that specific chapter, if you'd like. But limited time with episode count and need material for other characters to have also, before getting to main arc of season. Some chapters have been skipped in past seasons too. But this was the best one they skipped so far. Too bad, really wanted to see it animated...

Makes no sense to have that as a flashback *first* before having the actual scene in real time later. They have to skip some chapters to fit with episode count with the main arc being longer, people have done the calculations. So def seems skipped if the flashback from the chapter was shown already. And the main arc starts soon too, no time to add it back to be out of sequence with events. They will skip at least another chapter or 2 somewhere along the way also. The most episodic ones. There's a few on chopping block that I really want to see animated and hope they don't. lol

The chapter itself is too good and would make for an incredible skit so I'm having a hard time believing they'd skip it and the Hayasaka icecream thing is minor enough that I think they might just animate something else happening there.

They released chapter titles to know they will be up to ch 109 with episode 5. Ch 110 was adapted with season 3 promo. Again it would be out of sequence once ch 111 gets animated for episode 6 to start the arc, they will have material similar with the concept of how Shirogane acts so I think that's why this was skipped since that chapter was more episodic.

I didn’t realize kaguya said it at the end. If only hayasaka didn’t hang up. Also you notice hayasaka told the president that she’ll text him later. I’m happy that they are becoming friends. I feel like hayasaka doesn’t show her true self often (except for when she’s with kaguya) and the fact that she showed the president a small glimpse of who she is and he said it makes her more relatable makes me happy
The names Kazamatsuri and Toyosaki (shown in the rankings) are Shirogane's bros in his class! They have been shown a couple of times before; namely they're the two guys who nudged shirogane to take a break by going out to karaoke together in the friend group - there's even stuff about them in the extras (that didn't get translated unfortunately on screen due to time) but one has a rivalry with shirogane until they turn into best buds while the other has a similar social standing as shirogane and went to shuichin to search his missing father or sth, it's still a mystery to this day
I think Ishigami and Iinos relationship is more like a sibling type, where they are hostile to eachother especially in public, but they help eachother in the backround.
I love how symbolic the first title is It's a direct reference to kaguya hime no monogatari where kaguya asks one of her suitors isonokami (spelled same as ishigami) to bring her koyasu no tsubame which is an impossible task Not a spoiler but might be a bit suggestive Isonokami broke his back and died in the process of obtaining the said tsubame no koyasu and if u read the manga u will notice how close ishigamis character arc is to that of isonokami
My boy Ishigami deserves happiness. Love how Kaguya and Ishigami teamed up now, both partners in crime. Love it. Also Miko referencing Dio for a split second made my day.
I also actually likes the interaction between the side characters more than the main pairing, such as Ishigami and Kaguya, Maki and the boys, or even Chika and Hayasaka. As for Ishigami and Kaguya tho, every time they are at each other it seems really genuine because of how their VAs also interacts lol (they have radio show hosted by Kaguya and Chika's VA, and sometimes Ishigami's VA comes as a guest)
I will say it because this will never be included in the anime anyways. Ishigami is actually aware of what’s happening at the first place. He’s quite sensitive. He know president and kaguya love each other and know they are tgt the second it became real.
This season is pretty good, but unfortunately the episodes of the original source on this timeframe are one of the bests parts of the whole manga (hence why this one is so good), AND EVEN THEN, there's just so many episodes that the team animating had to still choose which ones to do and which others to leave behind. Their approach this season is a mix of developing the side characters and some of the iconic scenes (and even then, they couldn'r get enough iconic parts this far yet), all because they need to reach the Cultural festival for the climax of the season. This leaves some of the bonding episodes of Shirogane and Kaguya behind, not because they are bad (they absolutely aren't), but only because there's just no more space to cram them in. Which is why you may sometimes forget that this story is about them both.
look, kaguya and shirogane for sure gonna end up together but nah i doubt they will get happy ending. Sadly, this manga is not shonen romcom, its seinen romcom where author can go flip the table in just 1 chapter

I also actually likes the interaction between the side characters more than the main pairing, such as Ishigami and Kaguya, Maki and the boys, or even Chika and Hayasaka. As for Ishigami and Kaguya tho, every time they are at each other it seems really genuine because of how their VAs also interacts lol (they have radio show hosted by Kaguya and Chika's VA, and sometimes Ishigami's VA comes as a guest)
Especially how the VA basically always messed with each other lol. Ah, aoharukayo!

This season is pretty good, but unfortunately the episodes of the original source on this timeframe are one of the bests parts of the whole manga (hence why this one is so good), AND EVEN THEN, there's just so many episodes that the team animating had to still choose which ones to do and which others to leave behind.
Their approach this season is a mix of developing the side characters and some of the iconic scenes (and even then, they couldn'r get enough iconic parts this far yet), all because they need to reach the Cultural festival for the climax of the season. This leaves some of the bonding episodes of Shirogane and Kaguya behind, not because they are bad (they absolutely aren't), but only because there's just no more space to cram them in. Which is why you may sometimes forget that this story is about them both.
