Great tut, Ryan! The only problem I had was on the building of an Assembly. When I brought in the three sections, they were not aligned with each other, and manually trying to align them was not feasible. I played with the "Mating" function, but it seems to want to only mate flat surfaces. Since the top and bottom of the red ring is a point, it wouldn't work.
Hi! I had read this term "BORN Technique" on solidworks forum and would you mind discuss it your next live session? Anyway your videos are always informative and helpful.
The BORN technique or (Base Orphan Reference Node) is the basic concept of creating your features around your Origin References; Namely your XY, YZ, XZ planes, XYZ axes, and Center Point (0, 0, 0) of your model.
ryan i have a question.i want to design a kids car for my daughter, i start to sketch 2d and extrude and make every components and so on.some parts need to be designed just once.like a tire.or steering parts for left and right wheel .and when i draw one tire as a one solid body on a whole chassis .then i dont know what way is right? should i split body and save bodies and then import to the other side (mirrored part.not in this case). or should i design it seperately? and when i mirror a part, then i have a problem in assembly ...at the end i wanna have a bodies saved in one file to order to or 3d print or ... i'm confused plz help man.i know this Q became long and hard to understand ,but any suggestion would help A lot . you're the best
The best way is to create your first part, e.g. your tire, and make sure before you create it, uncheck "Merge Results" in your features. whatever feature it is, extrude revolve whatever. this way that tire will be treated as a seperate solid body. Then when you go to Mirror or pattern or etc. instead of selecting that tire as a "feature" you go to "body" and select it there. "Body" is a section in the property manager of (column on the left) of each feature. This the trick my friend
no, this feature has been there since the 2011 version. That's what I call the ALt technique. I explain that as one of the ten points in my free webinar. courses.solidworkstutorials.net/Webinar-Registration
8:33 How did you make the plane though???? You didn't explain what to click on to make the new planes for splitting. I have to use the 2012 version so whatever you're doing to make the planes does not work with mine.
In your heads-up view (in the middle of the modelling screen where you have the cross section view for example, click on that EYE and SHOW those things you mentioned
You need to work with MATE. this option allows you to make assemble them together and they wont be everywhere. Watch my assembly tutorial on the channel

After you did that, you can isolate each solid body and save it as a individual part. then import those into assembly
@@with-Aryan wow ,got it , it'll work.thanks man .you are great.your'e the best.
When you created the assembly the parts appeared to automatically mate to create the finished assembly - is this a 2020 version feature?
no, this feature has been there since the 2011 version. That's what I call the ALt technique. I explain that as one of the ten points in my free webinar. courses.solidworkstutorials.net/Webinar-Registration

Figured it out for anyone wondering, when you click the top plane line to drag it up, you need to hold ctrl to make a new plane.
it does! They are the same in that sense
I have explained that in detail in my How to Create Planes video
@@with-Aryan Thank you! Your videos have been very helpful :)
Hey Ryan! Centerline, Split entities etc are not visible on my top panel. How to make them visible?
In your heads-up view (in the middle of the modelling screen where you have the cross section view for example, click on that EYE and SHOW those things you mentioned
When adding the parts in the assembly mode, how can i aligne them becouse they are everywere.
