In a nutshell, I ‘m an avid dumpster diver, scrapper, picker, treasure hunter and underwater connoisseur. I prowl the city streets in search of dumpster loot, curbside treasures & scrap metal as well as scour the river bottoms for lost valuables during the summer months when I can scrounge up enough money for gas. Well here he goes again, grabbing the scrap as fast as he can. Mike makes it look easy, even breezy, but it is not. I saw in one dumpster signs that said " Yes We Can" that is the motto that Mike the Scavenger lives up to every time he scraps. Yes!!!!!

The instant that box hit the bed a HUGE smile came across my face!!!!!
Mike, the heavy box appeared to be a dry cell transformer. It allows varied input voltages to be changed into several different voltages as needed for different applications. The primary weight of it is due to copper wiring. However, as you said it is dipped in a solution to reduce heating and arcing from the different coils used to produce voltage. It is a shame that it will go as scrap but that is just how they are built.

Mate, put a couple of bracing bars across the back window and attach a $90 winch to it. Back your ute up to the skip bin and winch the heavy stuff straight out into the tray. Get a winch with a remote control. Nothing is then too heavy to handle. Cheers from Oz🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

On a serious note... those old 8 foot fluorescent fixtures. Check the ballasts and make sure that they say "No PCB"!
If they don't say no PCB, then DON'T throw them in the shread pile. They need to be dropped off at the hazardous waste drop off. Last thing we need is to keep putting PCB's into the environment.

Hey Mike love the video's brother, I have a question and a suggestion for ya. 1st question is, when is the best time to scavenge Day or Night and the suggestion is, have you ever considered caring a pair of BA side cutters with you, incase something has wire but to heavy for you. For a tradesman in Australia wooden ladders are not permitted, only aluminium or fibreglass. You need to get one of those hand wound cranes that you can bolt on the truck and winch the heavy stuff.

Hi Mike, the material in the transformer is resin, if you have a heat lamp you can melt it out…..
And there should be a big lump of copper inside, plus contacts 👍
I am a blacksmith and I use bed rails to make feathers, leaves, and Christmas tree ornaments

you know what might help? one of those cranes that fits in the back corner of a truck bed... help with washers and other big stuff.
Mike, go to harbor freight and get one of those small off roading lights to mount on your side board to give you some light.. might help
Mike those transformers that weighs more then 100 kg will make you loose a nut. Ever think of putting a metal rack above the cab for those extra long lengths of pipe or wood ?
The microwaves you find have another item in it is the microwave is the flat round magnets. You can sell them for $3. Each and that is more then you will get as scrap. Those magnets are great for crafts and diy.
You can make a project using those magnets for free electricity that rub those led and small florescent lights.. you could have one in your storage shed.

That big medal box is an electrical transformer, It is encased in tar like a light ballast, they should give you ballast price or transformer for it.
That was a bit of a fight with the transformer.

I have since heard that it is heavily edited for the US 🇺🇸 market. I wonder if that is true since I remember episodes where every third word is a swear word. It would leave about 5 minutes of show if it were edited out.
