in NYC we had the ones with the high engine idle and going past 30 miles an hour, those engines sounded like a v8. I kid you not!! the mta repowered them back in 2001 with series 50s. all retired now. I remember taking them on the Bx12 coming back from school. miss those momments
MTA Bus Faner! Oh yeah I think 4396 was that bus that caught on fire and they restored it. Cool history fact: Did you know that 1987 was the last last order of rts buses by NYC for like almost 3 years and then they resumed ordering in 1990 with 8000 and up with the updated 6V92 engines?
@zztee - Yeah I grew up riding the RTSs. These sounded really cool ... especially when they were Methanol powered. Hopefully within the next year I can buy one
@ColdplayRocks750 - thanks man. yeah I grew up riding these buses. I remember riding on these buses when I was in the 5th grade...oh its been a loooooong time
Man this thing holds back more in this recording than it did in the previous recording you put up on this bus!! I am FRIGGIN DONE!!!! DONE I TELL YOU, DONE!!!
I never rode an RTS bus until 2006, and IMMEDIATELY I knew it was the same engine as the Greyhound MC-12 and others. Trans almost sounds the same too, but 1-2 is different, still has that same herky-jerky into 3rd at the HT740 Infact it was a white/orange Metro bus like pictured, on my trip to LA. No city buses where I live since I was 11 (I'm 29 now) and those were TMC City Cruisers, GMC Old looks, and something that looked like a Orion V.
And I would like to get one of your buses and later on in Riverside California and could hard for him an offer you cannot refuse to get my busted off of him I know you still have one of the original RTD metro buses
@AllianceB95 - Just because he is smooth behind the wheel doesnt mean he is a great operator. In my opinion, your conclusion should be based to include other factors
I love that sound of that TMC RTS the Detroit Diesel engine with the Allison in it too

Same with Des Moines Version Orion 5s from '92
@ea90744 - The way he (was) is driving. He's driving smooth and releasing the brakes before stopping sothat you dont stop @ once.

i really miss hearing the V-731RH.. :(
@seClip9 - yes it was...before it was retired
what is with the delay b/w 1st and 2nd gear? doesn't seem as solid a shift as with the rest of the gears
Great Recording of the bus and both freeway and this one I like! Great Job, Eddie!
