The cables on the front of the motor were a safety recall. Motor mounts on 65 to 70 Chevy's were failing so these were installed at the dealer. I had it done on my 68 Camaro.

In 75 I owned a 64 I regret getting rid of it. My advice is never even think about selling it.

The motor tie downs were a GM recall
The motor mount was just rubber sandwiched in between 2 steel plates they would break
Later there was steel all the way through the rubber in later years
    So technically these are correct
But if you remove them and use proper bolts to take it bake to pre recall
It would also then be correct

1965 is a good choice. It was the year that Chevrolet was rolling out a whole new body style---a longer, and what I consider, "sexier" body style than before. So they pulled out all the stops to make a great supercar their first year. All the way down to the famous, what I consider, badass "six round tail lights"!

(3:40) The engine mounts were recalled and those were put on by the dealers to keep the mounts from breaking.

I got my -65 Impala 2007, imported from California black plate, still got it! Done a lot of changes, drivetrain, brakes, electric…… -65 design works 1965-2023 still looking like dream! You got the option bumpers, i have a pair but not put them on the front. And i made a copy of the Foose Imposter grill 😎

The motor mount deal was the fact that the factory motor mounts would tear away which caused the engine to rise with acceleration. I guess there were cases where the engine lifted enough to cause throttle linkage to bind.

I also have 65’ impala with a 283 and it has those anchors that keeps the motor from torque too much. It’s original

I would've left alone.. you have to look beyond the bling. Their worth more in original as they left factory than switching items out. I've had just about every Impala, caprice and a 57 new and used. From 100 buck ss 64 to brand spanking new 76 caprice. Still have 64 SS rag with all options, 66 gold impala and my favorite a 69 impala custom. All original with under 62k miles on anyone of them. I drive them here and there.. but mainly sit covered in garages.. when ever a part goes out.. I search the net for NOS.. every part that's numbered is rebuilt, hoses are GM stamp..

Yeah those cables were added under recall to stop the engine lifting off the mounts afaik

Ohh thanks for that well needed input sir! Makes perfect sense. Plan is to re integrate them into the new motor concept with a pair of long tubes. Should be cool.

Love the car. Great ideas for upgrades, but I would go with a Holley over the Edeljunk. But just my opinion. :)

I'd just clean it up + leave it alone it makes a statement as is the cable is on the wrong side it should be on the drivers side + put there 2 keep from breaking the motor mount from the torque owning a 65 impala 4 38 years now I just love the car 2 find 1 untouched as your dads is is way harder than you think as it now sits i wouldn't take $30 grand 4 it

You could option any motor in with the super sport during the time. Even a inline 6.

The bracket on the exhaust manifold had nothing to do with racing, it was a manufacturer recall item because chevrolet had a motor mount recall because of weak motor mount design and that part was issued to fix the problem, they were dealer installed.
