I got this same exact kit for my birthday yesterday and I spent like an hour trying to open one of the tiny ones. This was the first time I’ve wanted to open geodes in a different way besides slamming them on the ground. I had this quarter sized geode rolling around in a box and I was trying to use a chisel that was way too big. I was beating the hell out of it on my dining room table and getting nowhere. Finally my dad came over and after about 5 good swings he got it. I knew there had to be a better way so I really appreciate this video. Now I can open them with much less effort and way more efficiently. Thank you for this!
not that there is a Right or Wrong way to do this, you can open them however you want. I will share that in my experience using a flathead screwdriver or chisel and methodically working a line/equator across the rock has given me very clean lines on the split. It takes time/patience (like 10-15 min) but its fun because you never know which whack will split it, plus it breaks where you want it too every time
That's not them trying to dye it , these are all from different locations around the world so they're not all going to look the same on the outside or inside I have gotten ones like that with the pink outside around the geode
for anybody getting those kits I found that if you shine a bright light like the one on your phone flashlight you can see where is Hollow or not when you can know where to hit it
Glad I found your channel after murdering one of my geods lol I have recently gotten into geods, I subscribed to ur channel do you have a group for this type of stuff as well that I can also subscribe to????
Hey I found my first geode and the outer crust is missing in 2 areas and I can see the back side of the interior crystals. I’m worried about cracking the crystal or breaking it into more than 2 pieces. Any tips?
Nice botryoidal formations in the 2nd one. You should prolly not use your hand, dig a small divot in the ground to place it in or put it on a heavy flat rock. TFS 💖🦅🦅
why not put the geode in a vice and saw it with a reciprocating saw that has a blade that cuts through cinder blocks... ? May you would get perfect halves every time.
I would rather score the geode first and place it on a solid base before hitting it. Putting the geode in your hand and hitting it with your other hand/hammer can be inconsistent, especially if you are trying to follow a score line. Further, the energy applied to the geode goes through the specimen and dissipates through your hand that holds the geode. Your method just looks arbitrary and no telling how the specimen is going to break open. Nice video otherwise.
Thank you! My son got this as a gift and I hurt myself trying to get these open until I found your video.
There are better ways. Look on TH-cam for different methods.

The little crystal snowflake looks exactly like a kidney stone I passed once. 😮

Very bad video and technique for beginners. This should be named HOW TO DESTROY THE GEODES.
Thanks for the title inspiration for future geode videos! Thanks for watching! 👍🏼
