There's nothing wrong with elegant overkill as long as the weight penalty is not crazy. I remember what sold me on the Revolver originally was when John stepped on the back wheel of a TRX4 and lifted the front, very smoothly, with the throttle. Being older, the Revolver's high frequency whine when using the Castle Monster X isn't much of an issue for me.
I have the team spec ss paired with your crawlmaster v2 and man this is so nice. It can creep so slow , you can barely see it move and it can also get into hyperspace when needed
Love my v2 2500kv revolver full size so far. And absolutely love the 2040kv revolver snubnose v3 I got on accident. Was saprized the power and top speed of the smaller snubnose has. It seems as fast as or faster then my full-size 2500kv v2 revolver on same 4s voltage. And can feel the v3 motor is harder to turn by hand then any other model's I have that's a v2. And last but not least I love my v1 and v2 team spec ss revolvers. The newest being my favorite of course with the strong hold and higher torque then the v1. Thanks as always for the greatest crawler electronics 💯👌💪❤🤘🙏🇺🇸
Love the information!!! Thanks I just picked up a v2 for my 6.5 lb element! It’s 2200 kv I got it at a flea market .it’s new do you think I need to get a lower kv?
Great video! Currently running the 540 size Revolver, but looking for the motor for my new build so video was very helpful. I will move toward the snubnose to try something smaller. The crawler will weigh in at about 6 pounds as I am using reasonably heavy alloy axle housings. Thanks for all the great products.
John - I purchased two V3 540 Revolver motors for an RC4WD Bully II MOA build. I stupidly purchased your BR Mini Dual esc to power these revolvers not realizing the BR stood for brushed. I then purchased two Castle Micro X's, but blew them both playing around with other builds. Then I tried to Mamba X's, and decided they were too big - overkill. So now I have two Sidewinder4's where I've removed the shrouds, ground down the heatsinks and glued them back to back to fit in the body of the Bully II MOA. I've yet to finish soldering the connections as I am unsure how I will connect the esc's to power (i.e., single battery to both esc's or two small batteries per esc). But in any event, when done I think this may be the only dual motor on axle build with your latest big can revolver. Thought you might get a kick out of that... Also - I have one of your 1800kv V3 Snubnose Revolvers that is going in an all aluminum WLToys 144001 with a Mamba X for speed run testing. Question - I think I can safely run it at 4S, but what about going to 6S? Will the motor handle that for short bursts? As an aside, that will also be the only 1/14th scale speed run buggy I know of with a Revolver motor. Again - thought you'd get a kick out of that. 😁
The greatest thing about the big revolver is that i can slowcrawl my BRX01 all day in second gear, and have all the wheelspeed and torque i need without it even reaching room temperature.
The 540 size in my C3 Gspeed, performs incredibly. Power to spare, holds a line and is super smooth. Running the 540 in 1800kv on 4s with a Copperhead.
I’m loving the team spec ss motor, as mentioned if you don’t utilize it for the correct application (light weight) it may not hold as some anticipate. On the opposite side of the spectrum I also love my 540 revolver (v1 not classic) and the torque density is just another driving experience!! I mostly run 3s and super happy with it but really want to get a proper revolver to use 4s with the Crawlmaster v2. I did try 4s with the team spec ss and CMv2 until noticed noise pitch changed and I opted to stop. Love the videos like this, learn something every time!!
In Washington (not DC) the closed cans. Too much water and dirt. If it’s not wet it’s dusty. 550s In the low or mid 2000kv range. Im a fan of overkill.
I just purchased an OG SCX10 w/ a Comanche body. What motor would be best for this rig. Truck has aluminum beadlocks with new 1.9 Hyrax all around. It also has the 1080 Quicrun Hobbywing ESC. Thanx...
Motor choice question, but first rig specs. A class 2 Brazinscale hi-low with a tgh 2low trans that's a little over 5lbs. On Vanquish F9 Currie axles (non portal front/portal rear) 65:1 front 79:1 rear gear ratios ( 20% ish o.d.) mainly used for comps, but trail run every now and then. Running 3s on your crawlmaster mini ESC Would a 380 2000kv revolver be "enough" motor to have good wheel speed at those gear down ratios? Or would you bump up to a stubby puller pro or revolver? I would like to keep weight down, but wheel speed is useful! Thanks for everything you do for the community, along with taking the time to read this. 👍
These product videos are great. So much of a build is the controller and motor. Between weight, size, voltage input 2 3 4s, torque, hold, start up and kv... any input is appreciated
I have a sleeper Gen7 that is about 8 pounds. It is a step below really good comp rigs but far above a normal rig. I run portals which lower the gear ratios by 50%. Would a Snubnose be appropriate for mostly bouldering? I also do steep climbs and trailing. Also, which ESC will run it the quietest? I don’t care much for whiny rigs. I am ready to buy now if you have what I need available. : ) Great video! 🏁 I watched every second and learned a lot.
well John.. what would your kv pick be on an enduro.. I just ordered the trailwalker black weathered edition which is the Sendero with a kewl body.. and I've never had either brushless or outrigger n this rig I would love to try this out on.. love how smooth these things look to be.. my wendigo experience made me revert back to brushed on that.. with a trail master motor love it but this enduro is going to be my best crawler that might find my way into comps... n I wouldn't mind your motor n ESC thoughts on this one ..
Does your company make custom 380 cans too? Was just wondering because I have a small rig that I want to put a good motor in. I plan on modifying it a bit but keep it on 1.5's with very slow wheel speed. It's a bit too fast for my liking and the startup sucks.
I can assure you overkill should have been the given name for the 2500 my what was a new wraith is now spare parts for my new wraith that's no longer running the 2500. First little wraith lasted around 4hrs on 4s I was crawling on rift raff borders at our riverfront. And paired with the castle mamba because Holmes was out of his at time of purchase of my revolver 2500. Amazing slow crawling speed you can literally watch each knobby on the tread make contact that's the amount of control. Anyhow as I was enjoying my day my rig wedged itself in between two boulders right rear and driver front I slowly pulled the throttle as to pop one or the other out but the rear sunk farther. The front had now came up out of the Crack but was under the lip of the rock infront so I hit reverse put me back where I started so I thought well how about I just full throttle it will hop right out it's so snappy. Boy Snappy was the word and snap was the sound that motor has so much torque it literally snap the chassis like a twig. I was in utter shock and disbelief but at the same time going holy crap I'm so glad I was recording that cause that is insane. And absolutely awesome all at the same time I thought I was done for the day but because of where it snapped it really hadn't stopped it from being drivable. Nope made sure that happen about 20 mins later. When the front was stuck and it ripped the shock from its cradle on the right side of the rear-end and snap the axle. So what do I think of Holmes products well I certainly don't buy anything else for my Crawlers or Monster truck's .I know there are other good companies out there and I own a lot of their equipment to.But I've only burnt up one brushed motor from Holmes in 6yrs and it was completely my fault and I now own 55 of his motors and esc's. For me that's a no brainer and when I can take this tiny can't even hardly hear it bullet motor and snap my rc chassis that I couldn't even hardly twist it 15 degrees either direction by hand.Yeah that's my kinda product and it's built and designed by a man who is whole heartedly dedicated to the hobby and pushing it to new limits. As well as making sure he does all he can to insure it's future for many more to enjoy. You can't find these people or companies hardly anymore and it's sad because they are who built this country in the first place. So I can assure you I will support and buy all that I can from a company that supports me and makes sure I benefit from their product. Not one that mass produces as much as possible because in 3 months your repurchasing the same thing again because it went up in smoke or just simply malfunctions altogether. I've got motors that have hundreds of miles on them from. Holmes and that's 1:1 scale miles I haven't ever broken them down to 1/10 but one is like 6 miles from 350 it's my 3100kv Holmes running a Hobbywing max esc another around 211 and several inches low hundreds or darn close. Now if that isn't dependability and quality I don't know what is or where you're going to find it. What I can attest to is I own well over 200 rc's and I have every brand of motor and esc you can imagine and the only company I've had come close to matching the durability and performance is one that most are going to be taken back by but I get no quirks or incentives for advertising so my opinion and advice comes straight from my pocket book to my rc's and the results are unbiased an honest.Anyway HPI is the only other motor I've even got to come close to putting up with the torcher and putting out dependability one of my 17 trx4s is running a hpi 4000kv with a Hobbywing 1080 zero lagging at any crawl speed and 41mph on 2 gear top speed with absolutely zero upgrades it's 5yrs old and never had a single part break and I use it for trailing and bashing 3s 5000 50c is my battery of choice. It's currently at 261 after the last couple 11hrs a day weekends and is still as strong as it was knew. But even tho I'm a huge fan of it my main go to is Holmes Hobbies and for good reason my motor drawers is full of over 600 motors all that have failed. Out of those 5 drawers it only contains one Holmes hobby crawlmaster motor out of my Redcat Marksmans. Of which was completely my error as a bearing went out in my trans and I had no knowledge it was working 5 times harder than it should in 90 degree weather until my crawlmaster became a crawldisaster I was really disappointed at first this truck was only 2weeks old and 3 batteries in. Until examination told the story no failure on Holmes behalf just a crap Chinese bearing ruining a hand built masterpiece in my opinion. Sucks that 11cents can destroy a whole day of fun.As well as cost you more than 20 dollars to fix what would have probably outlasted my Marksman. Well that's my two cents hope it helps somebody and hope everyone gets out and enjoys this wonderful hobby.BITTEN4LIFE
I got a hh snubnose 2040kv with the crawlmaster v3 I’ve heard some people say it’s a bit Coggy? I haven’t ran it it yet but what gears are y’all running that is smooth with this setup?
Can we get a 15-30minutes in the weeds motor topic? can John come up with something like that? on the lcg rig that he is building thoughts as to what makes a good comp rig? VS trail rig with hopes for comps
So looking at a 102:1 gear reduction with 4s would the 2500kv snub or if team spec be suffice for a 5-6lb rig ? Or a smaller lightweight different transmission would put me at 67:1. (Maybe more wheel speed and heavier than I need but it slow speed is still awesome)
Is there a way that you could just make the can bigger on that smallest one increasing the strength of the magnets by making them bigger and that would give you greater torque
Hey John, great video, despite the odd rabbit hole! 😉 I've experimented with different kv and would say 2200-2300kv seems to be the sweet spot. Also, quick question for ya. I have a pseudo-comp rig (daily driver but set up for comps) and interested in the Team Spec SS. Rig, fully outfitted, weighs about 6lbs and wondering if the SS will tolerate it or if I should go with the standard snub nose? Thanks!
Hello, I would love to have a Revolver 3500 KV for 3S batteries, so that I have High Torque and Micha Power in the Wheels, is it possible to manufacture a Revolver Motor with these Characteristics????
Have you did speed test inrunner 3.5t 8700kv vs a outrunner 25000kv I want to try a build rc car with motor but don't know which one motor for top performance speed do tell me which one for top performance should I use please Holmes hobbies
Kv is kv. But outrunners aren't great for loaded efficiency when gearboxes are available. Too high of no load compared to similar sized inrunner, they can't shed heat as fast
I've seen one or two older Tamiya based crawlers with the tuggers, also in one of the Tamiya semi trucks. Probably fit alright in that team AE 12-14th (forget which it is, but it's a odd scale) rig also.
@@jollygreengiant7070 I have a king Kong rc ca30 6x6 truck I would like to put it in as a normal 540 is very tight against the servo and this lil tugger would fit alot better
Will these all work with the micro mamba v2? On topic of the mamba v2, is there any difference in the esc whether it's in a 1/18 combo vs crawler version, besides bullet size.
What's the problem I'm using copperhead10 ESC and 2500kv motor HH revolver V2...my settings on power is 100% full throttle and 100% reverse...then when I full throttle for 2.3.sec the ESC will beep long sound and no response i need to restart again the ESC...can you help me sir.
@@HolmesHobbies thanks for the reply I assume it is a long process but I don’t think there’s anyone better for the job ! Hope to see one in the future! You’ve definitely got a buyer here.
Ok. I want to run a ten shooter on a copperhead 10 in my Phoenix portal. Can you save me one? A couple weeks. I plan to torture test a fully loaded Phoenix.
Anybody have an issue trying to create account! emails through to Holmes hobbies from the app on a phone mobile app!??? I keep getting this error code to sign up captcha when I looked this up. It says I did not check that i'm not a robot box?????? Tried calling the number no response, just asked number And just hung up on me! If anybody could help I would appreciate it thank you
careful. I ran a holmes motor on a stock truck. it burned up in five minutes, and they said that I should have done a gear reduction for that motor, so it wasn't covered.
They're like the turbo diesel elec motors.. Besst rc decision i ever made! John, you absolute ledgend!
Love these tech videos
Glad you like em! They are fun to make

Any chance V4 has 550 size 2500kv to 2800kv ? Or can I special order one? Thx!
i like the classic revolvers 😑🥃
Will these all work with the micro mamba v2? On topic of the mamba v2, is there any difference in the esc whether it's in a 1/18 combo vs crawler version, besides bullet size.
besides bullet, no difference. I would only recommend snub nose revolvers with that ESC
I ended up going with trail master 2200kv
How does the v3 540 compare to the revolver classic?
the classic is bigger and has more power/torque
In my trx4 wait doesn’t matter
What's the problem I'm using copperhead10 ESC and 2500kv motor HH revolver V2...my settings on power is 100% full throttle and 100% reverse...then when I full throttle for 2.3.sec the ESC will beep long sound and no response i need to restart again the ESC...can you help me sir.
Do you ever expect that the outrunners to replace the brushed magnum, pullers in the comp scene?
Do you have any intention for making a revolver motor for an SCX6?
I designed one. Had some materials issues and haven't gotten samples. It's a long process!
@@HolmesHobbies thanks for the reply I assume it is a long process but I don’t think there’s anyone better for the job ! Hope to see one in the future! You’ve definitely got a buyer here.
i just want the longest running rig on one batttery...
Ok. I want to run a ten shooter on a copperhead 10 in my Phoenix portal. Can you save me one? A couple weeks. I plan to torture test a fully loaded Phoenix.
Wait a minute how do I get that purple motor?
1800-2500kv 4S or 3s
Anybody have an issue trying to create account! emails through to Holmes hobbies from the app on a phone mobile app!???
I keep getting this error code to sign up captcha when I looked this up. It says I did not check that i'm not a robot box?????? Tried calling the number no response, just asked number And just hung up on me! If anybody could help I would appreciate it thank you
Elegant overkill....lovely term. Definitely would rather have it and not need it,than need it and be up shits creek.
exactly
You can see my ss team spec with crawlmaster v2 on 4s lipo here : th-cam.com/video/zmIM0-VE1iw/w-d-xo.html
careful. I ran a holmes motor on a stock truck. it burned up in five minutes, and they said that I should have done a gear reduction for that motor, so it wasn't covered.
