Imagine’ is undisputedly Lennon’s most widely revered track from his post-Beatles career but, in truth, the song feels as though it no longer belongs to him due to the plethora of different ways it has been interpreted over the last half a century. The legacy of the song was most perfectly summarised by President Jimmy Carter, who noted: “In many countries around the world - my wife and I have visited about 125 countries - you hear John Lennon’s song ‘Imagine’ used almost equally with national anthems.”
What Lennon meant, and no doubt what President and Mrs. Carter understood it to mean, was no _weaponized_ religion. "Imagine all the people living life in peace." And amen to that....

I grew up with music cause my uncles would play & sing any song Jaz, pop music, Latin music, u name it. But this song I 😊love it so much when my first son was born in 2001 Carters had the Theme Imagine even the music for the baby and I still have it still works. I bought everything from Carter's even Newborn clothes from John Lennon Imagine stuff cute animals everything I have it still no damage. Years later I explained to my son why did I pick out this theme for him & he was so amazed that he actually 😭 hears this song as well.

Um... doesn't everyone always say that Carter was a devout Christian? So, why are they singing a song that says there is no Heaven and wishing for no religion?
I can’t believe my ears!!! I’m quite sure Mrs. Carter was NOT imagining that there is no heaven before God greeted her with open and loving arms. My disappointment in one of my all time faves (Garth) is heartbreaking.
Garth is very left. They generally think everybody goes to heaven if they're just a " good" person. Good meaning not a killer or rapist, etc. They make up their own religion, they don't follow the Bible. It's got parts they don't like.
What a perfect song for First Lady Rosalyn Carter’s memorial. She dedicated her life to the service of others and the pursuit of world peace. As the saying goes “ peace is not a season, but a way of life”. Her life exemplifies adopting peace as a way of life. I miss her already. ☮️
@DDd-gm8uz The First Lady was a pacifist and she was not an elected official. She did not wage war against anyone or support a regime that was ruthless. President Carter was not a great president. I believe he got in over his head from the beginning, not realizing how difficult a job he had won. The “Third World”, from Latin America to Africa, was, at that time, mired in violence and corruption, he inherited a lot of issues and did not act in the interest of the people to alleviate their suffering. He will always be judged for his many mistakes. Yet, Rosalyn Carter did none of these things. She was a kind and gentle woman who loved her family, her husband, her church and her country. She should be honored for the life she lived. ☮️
Thanks a million, Nancy! Your comment has truly made my day. It's an incredible feeling to know that my music is being enjoyed by people like you. Keep on jamming.
@GarthBrooksVevo Garth Brooks, if there were any way to even know it is you writing, can you personally attest that both 1st Lady, and President Carter Implicitly chose and approved this specific song for the memorial ? The ongoing argument, and majority of traditional Christians commenting, feel the lyrics are in abject conflict with the Carter's lifelong Christian beliefs, practices, and participation in their church. It is well known they taught Sunday School. It is impossible to "Imagine" this song being played in their Church for her funeral. Can you clear this question up ? Did THEY choose the song, personally. Not "aides or organizers". Jimmy or Rosalyn, Personally.
They were probably supposed to sing this one but screwed up. I Can Only Imagine MercyMe I can only imagine What it will be like When I walk by Your side I can only imagine What my eyes would see When Your face is before me I can only imagine Yeah Surrounded by Your glory What will my heart feel? Will I dance for You Jesus Or in awe of You be still? Will I stand in Your presence Or to my knees, will I fall? Will I sing hallelujah? Will I be able to speak at all? @@anthonylagunas6737 because she was a Christian. The song they sang was not a Christian song. I don’t disagree she planned her funeral but I do believe they misunderstood which song they were to sing.
The Carters are Christians so a song which starts with "Imagine there is no heaven" is not appropriate no mater how sweet the melody and the singing. The writer John Lenon once commented that he (Lenon) was more popular than Jesus. The starting lyrics Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us, only sky Imagine all the people Livin' for today

The Carter’s were Christian and very involved in their church therefore I’m shocked this song was performed. According to the Lennon, the world could live as one if religion didn’t exist. But would the world really be better off without religion? So many misconceptions about what this song really means from John Lennons perspective.
I don't think the song "Imagine" was appropriate to sing at the memorial of Rosalyn Carter. The reason I don't is because of the lyrics in the song that is sung "Imagine there is no heaven it's easy if you try. No Hell below us above only sky." Both Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter are both rooted deeply in the christian faith. They very much believe in a Heaven and a Hell. That is the reason I could never like the song "Imagine" because I also believe in a Heaven and a Hell. Other than this song sung at Rosalyn's memorial. I think the rest of the ceremony was beautiful.
I agree that it was probably not the song to sing for Rosalyn's funeral since she is a Christian, but not everyone believes the same thing. Jewish people don't believe in hell nor does any other non-Christian. There was no hell in the Old Testament since Hell is a Christian invention. But I, too, wondered why they had chosen this particular song.
🎶 Imagine going to Heaven It's easy if you try. Seeing Rosalynn up there. And John and George too. You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday we will join them Meanwhile helping the World to live as one🎶

It was a beautiful and inspirational funeral fitting for the woman and First Lady she was! Simple and heartfelt. Loved seeing Trisha and Garth singing! Lovely! The song is so relevant!
Song…”Imagine….No religion too” I think many are missing the point of the song. John is saying if there were no religion the wars would be over, for wars seem to always start over religion, whether it’s Hamas and Israel, the terrorists who created 9/11, the Mideast wars, Hitler etc. The word “religion” is meant to be about religious fanaticism, not necessarily about people’s personal spiritual views. We have certainly seen the results of religious fanaticism in the US too.
Wow- I'm thinking this is a very weird choice of song for this occasion. Imagine no country - for the wife of a former head of state. No religion, too, for deeply religious people....
Seems like a strange song choice given the lyrics about no religion, no hell and no heaven given the Carter's very clear and strong faith and the fact that they are in a church. The song has some nice sentiments, but is a strange choice given the setting and their beliefs....
Seems like such an inappropriate song to choose if they knew their true faith and all the controversies around Lennon saying that the Beatles are bigger than Jesus. Such a poor choice of a song for her and shows how out of touch the secular world is. “I can only image” would of been a MUCH better choice. It’s even kind of gross they sang that song in a church for a funeral for a Christian.
A totally inappropriate song to sing at the funeral of devoted Christian woman. Imagine there's no Heaven. It's easy if you try. Truly sad that this song was sung. A beautiful woman she was. A strong Christian woman she was. Devoted to her husband and family and country. A legacy of faith and devotion. I am sure she is with Christ in Heaven today singing praises to her Lord and Savior. Love and peace to her family.
RIP First Lady Carter. You always displayed class and dignity. Heaven has another citizen

Pretty rendition done in a respectful manner. Played beautifully by Brooks and accompanied backup.
Why sing this song at a Christian lady's funeral?
because she planned her funeral and wanted this song?
Because she understood the separation of church and state
because "the lady" requested and wanted it sung...obviously. Maybe she wasn't as "christian" as some appeared she was.

@GarthBrooksVEVO This song is everything for me since I was a baby since 1979 the year I was born.

Interesting song to be sung at a church during a religious service
I was thinking the same thing..pretty song though.
The pastor who allowed it probably is a clueless sell out, who doesn’t even know that it does not belong in church
It was not a religious service, it was a celebration of her life.
I'm sure it was approved or requested by the Carters.

Um... doesn't everyone always say that Carter was a devout Christian? So, why are they singing a song that says there is no Heaven and wishing for no religion?

I can’t believe my ears!!! I’m quite sure Mrs. Carter was NOT imagining that there is no heaven before God greeted her with open and loving arms. My disappointment in one of my all time faves (Garth) is heartbreaking.
It's about peace. Please don't be that person.
Garth is very left. They generally think everybody goes to heaven if they're just a " good" person. Good meaning not a killer or rapist, etc. They make up their own religion, they don't follow the Bible. It's got parts they don't like.
Get over it. It’s a Beautiful song.

Rip Mrs Carter! Well done services to a well deserve First Lady❤😢.
What a perfect song for First Lady Rosalyn Carter’s memorial. She dedicated her life to the service of others and the pursuit of world peace. As the saying goes “ peace is not a season, but a way of life”. Her life exemplifies adopting peace as a way of life. I miss her already. ☮️
perfect song? total rubbish

Hard to believe they included lyrics of imagining no heaven or religion.

What a nice family the Carters are.
The Carters are Christians so a song which starts with "Imagine there is no heaven" is not appropriate no mater how sweet the melody and the singing. The writer John Lenon once commented that he (Lenon) was more popular than Jesus. The starting lyrics
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us, only sky
Imagine all the people
Livin' for today

The Carter’s were Christian and very involved in their church therefore I’m shocked this song was performed.

Rest in Peace Mrs Carter❣️🙏🏻
I don't think the song "Imagine" was appropriate to sing at the memorial of Rosalyn Carter. The reason I don't is because of the lyrics in the song that is sung "Imagine there is no heaven it's easy if you try. No Hell below us above only sky." Both Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter are both rooted deeply in the christian faith. They very much believe in a Heaven and a Hell.
That is the reason I could never like the song "Imagine" because I also believe in a Heaven and a Hell. Other than this song sung at Rosalyn's memorial. I think
the rest of the ceremony was beautiful.
As I watched this yesterday I had a laugh when they sang imagine no religion LOL
A powerful message to the world. RIP Mrs. Carter

It's easy if you try.

It was a beautiful and inspirational funeral fitting for the woman and First Lady she was! Simple and heartfelt. Loved seeing Trisha and Garth singing! Lovely! The song is so relevant!
It wasn’t her funeral.🤦♀️
You’re right! It was a memorial service!
@@debrasnipes7431 You’re correct, it was a memorial service!
Relevant how? Did you hear the words?
Song…”Imagine….No religion too”
I think many are missing the point of the song.
Can't beat the world with a secular peace message.
RIP thanks for your service to our nation FLOTUS Carter

Absolutely Beautiful rendition of Imagine for Rosalynn Carter!
Thank you ❤
Wow- I'm thinking this is a very weird choice of song for this occasion.
Absolutely beautiful 🙏🙏
I don't think that either of the Carters would want to "imagine there's no heaven."
There is a heaven and a hell so why imagine? I can only imagine would have been more appropriate.
Probably what it was supposed to be.
Because maybe for a moment you could be a person.
May she rest well until her forever love will once again be at her side !
