So the amazing thing about the bulgarian patriarchate is that you can use it to entirely cancel out ANY of the occupation laws in terms of compliance gain, meaning you can go on forced labour or harsh quotas for more than 100% resources or 100% factories respectively when at 100% compliance. Absolutely broken, but hey that's why we love hoi4

Back in the day I used to do a strategy for this path. Rush down the focuses so that you flip ideology as fast as possible, improve relationship with Germany to join their faction. This will make Romania like you and give you military access. Declare war on Greece and Order 66 Romania, defeat Greece too. The focus "Bulgarian Integration of the Balkans" lets you core any Balkan state you are occupying, and you can ask others in your faction to let you occupy any Balkan state that is not their core. So you get all cores that the United Balkan Federation gives you, but also the Bulgarian Patriarchate. RIP Order 66 :(

Bulgaria was the nation I saw the fewest playthroughs for when the dlc came out. It was easy to get the handful of achievements and then completely forgot the nation existed.
Bulgaria is definitely my favorite focus tree in the game. Its got the BEST faction management mechanics that pair really well with the entire tree.

As an American, I can confirm I am 100% compliant to my Bulgarian Overlords.
I've done this path a couple of times before and I love how you don't even need to join the war with the Allies, you can just demand and core land in the Balkans for free (you can even get Montenegro and Albania if you ask for the land before Italy releases them as puppets). Then I just backstab the Axis to take over Romania and Trieste, as well as being able to declare on Turkey and have all of the Balkans cored under the Third Bulgarian Empire!
That Bulgarian tag colour gives toothpaste Sardinia a run for its money!

I just did a pacifist turncoat bulgaria run, did tsars regime and integrated everyone but the nationalists, while doing the foreign investment thing, approaching both britain amd germany to get 18 civs and 9% consumer goods factories. Joined the axis, they gave me my claimed land and i took the decisions to ask for everything i could get my hands on. When boris died i nationalized foreign industries which removed the 9% consumer goods, turned a democratic regency council for simeon and joined the allies to get the rest of the balkans. Then the game crashed, probs because the soviets surrendered
How is it that every nation that iSorrow plays is secretly OP, but when you play the same path, it's not OP at all?
The fact that you can steal tons of land and not even need to join wars is wild, Bulgaria was so fun to play

Any game of Hoi i play, Bulgaria always, ALWAYS becomes a Major. Germany could get absolutely steamrolled, Italy could be deleted out of existence, and Bulgaria would still be the last bastion of the Axis.

Fate of the balkans is super fun. I don't even bother with the puppets i just manual justify on greece and yugo to get all of grrexe, romania and yugo then deny the soviet event, farm warscore and take most of the soviets and use that ridiculous compliance gain to destroy the axis and allies.
