As a France Expanded dev (and extensive player of baguette nation), i can assure you the worst paths in vanilla are :

2. Capitulate and Free France
1. The legitimate heir

I'm sure he already did legitimate heir run in some "Terrible focus" video, and, yes, it's the worst one, right near Viche, Free and Spanish throne for me, coz, after u annex Spain, there isn't really anything to do
cant have terrible focus tree series without Turkey, it was the first time i actually got lost in a focus tree

turkey would be slightly more bearable if it wasn't comprised entirely of 70 day focuses
I hate playing turkey it takes forever to get any factories and you get no equipment hard to expand @AWACSRumble
@@AWACSRumble Also any Turkey focus path is locked behind so many random bad focus. Want to get the Ottoman back? Do this focus to boost mills construction in 1936 first, also get some non-aggression pacts first, also ask French for land first, also announce neutrality first...... Want to join allies? Do 3 focus to get some navy, truck, bomber research bonus first. There is NO CHOICE in Turkey focus trees😓😓You can't pick focus, only do them all.
@@YumemiKaman Vanilla Turkey used to be one of my favorite starts. I gave the updated focus tree many tries but it's just tedious.

Ok the french commie tree is honestly pretty good, I’d say the Orleanist or Facist paths are all around worse
The Orleanist path gives you a weekly stability boost
@@Pythagoras180 yeah but revolutionary zeal gives you a flat 10% attack buff on everything along with 10% attack on core territory, and then Egalité, Liberté, Solidarité gives you another 10% attack and defense on cores
The thing is, Orleanist France grants you a couple of war goals and enough stability to stay above 80% for the entire game, making it perfect for, say, a more defensive France playthrough. If you really want something borderline useless, try going for the "Légitimiste" path instead. You're guaranteed a war with Spain if the carlists don't win (which they never really do),then you either get them as a puppet or you have to wait for AI Spain to core all of it's lands back if you don't want it as "occupied territory" once you annex them through "Unite the crowns" and you don't get anything outside of that. Fun !

ISP, if you want to do the French Union, I admise you to liberate all your occupied African territories as puppets before doing the focus. Like that, if you win, they'll gonna be annexed, and if you lose, they stay your puppets.
(idk if you can liberate countries as puppets if you're the French Commune, but I did this with the democratic France and it worked perfectly)

I actually quite like playing France in hoi4 due to it's physical location and all the stuff you can mess with around you. Even so, despite doing dozens of playthroughs I never even noticed this path because the other two are so good in comparison. That being said after watching this I might have to give it a go.

4:13 In all fairness, that portrait/character is a somewhat recent addition, added around the time they released NSB because while they were researching Soviet politics for that DLC they realized that it actually didn't make a lot of sense to have a staunch supporter of the Soviet Union (Maurice Thorez, who was supported by Stalin) go against the Stalin line and so drew up René Nicod who was noted for being vehemently against the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. Also, making the constituent parts of the UK revolt, while probably not the most optimal way to play, is definitely one of the funnier things you can do as France, right up there with turning Germany into a mass of squabbling states as Napoléon.

My favorite french path is in road to 56, go napoleon, Its so fun, no its op, but its still hard to beat Germany so i typically invite (poland romania and itlay to faction) and its easy win typically, but if u go solo its more of a struggle but it gives you more of a sense of accomplishment (you can take all of Belgium Netherlands and spain) before British guarantees, its so fun being able to be the offensive one with france

I tried this path once, accidentally got myself into a civil war by intervening in spain. Iberia truly is the worst place imaginable.

Bringing La Resistance to multiplayer is overall a bad idea.

I think this is one of the best focus tree. It gives you 10% division attack and 10% factory/dockyard output.
