thanks for posting this, It was awesome to hear the lowest ranges of the lower clarinets. Plus I never knew there was an A basset horn or was that supposed to the regular A soprano.
In Bb there only exist a (rare) basset clarinet, not a basset horn. Bassets horn have only existed in F, D, G (and also in Es, even if I've never seen nothing concerning it). I have a book listing all the tonalities made for clarinet (39 in total), the Bb basset horn seems not have existed according to it and other specialists.
Cassie Ward I know which one you mean or at least I think I do. Are you talking about the C that’s an octave above thumb C? If so I can play that with ease. I do have the largest range out of all the clarinets in my school though. (I’m a junior in Highschool)
I'm actually going to redo these instrument family videos. I'm also going to do the brass, strings, percussion, other woodwinds, and more. I might do dulcains, if they sound different enough from bassoons.
Because almost if not every bass clarinet member starts out on b-flat clarinet which plays in treble clef. If bass clarinet played in bass clef then to switch to bass clarinet would mean that they'd have to learn how to read another clef and read it proficiently. Basically its for practicality reasons.
the human ear can't differentiate notes that low on some of the lowest octocontrabass so why even bother? also, can't you play higher than one register up if you know what ur doing
That's because clarinets have no even harmonics. Otherwise, those low notes would sound more differentiable. Also, of course he/she can play higher than one register up, but chose not to.
TBNRFags I would trust you except I've heard lots of Bb Bass Clarinets go to low C. Some examples: th-cam.com/video/jSZtX3WHF_E/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/9v9mJ64D-AQ/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/oogvwQGIGZc/w-d-xo.html Looks like you should trust me instead. Plus C bass clarinets are extremely rare anyways.
TruncatedTriangle The highest note a person can play may be different, but that is the absolute range of the Bb clarinet (i used concert pitch for anyone confused BTW)
Feish I don't know where you're getting your information from, but they can go higher that Ab6. This link should prove that: www.philharmonia.co.uk/explore/sound_samples/clarinet&filter_articulation=Normal&filter_length=1&filter_dynamic=Forte
TruncatedTriangle My information comes from playing the clarinet for nearly 10 years. In actual fact, the Bb clarinet only goes above a concert f# by over blowing other notes
You messed up the Bb clarinet and Bb bass clarinet. The Bb clarinets C is thumb, register key, and first finger. The bass clarinet goes down to an Eb not a C.
guys chill lol. @ItzTheMidget German this video uses the boehm system fingerings. assuming you're actually german, you're familiar with the german/oehler system fingerings. That's why you learned differently!!
+SasukeUchiha 2002 Technically they are correct in modern terms now. Before they were shaped like that, but now they are shaped to look more like bass and alto clarinets.
Selmer contras are. LeBlanc's low C models aren't. I don't remember off hand if Buffet makes a contrabass. Benedikt Eppelsheim started making contrabass clarinets within the last 10 years, and it's shaped like a bass sax to facilitate sitting while playing. As for the omitted clarinets, the C, Bb, and G sopraninos were never constructed, and the F soprano is incredibly rare if it was ever made. The D soprano is used in lieu of the Eb soprano in orchestral settings, the G soprano only exists with the German fingering system as far as I know, and I believe used mainly in Turkey. The A bass is fairly rare.
Don't waste you time trying to correct me on an OLD video. Go to the updated video in the description instead.
Got it
You forgot the unlisted
It sounds so heavenly. totally
Lol, 😂😂😂😂😂.
Lol I remember that, the best clarinet instrument
It dosent have actual notes which is why the key signature has "???"
Low c on octocontrabass
That’s how the movies use machine gun sound effect
Mr. Awesomeness sounds like me after taco bel whoo cheesy Gordita crunch and soft taco
The octocontrbass is not in playable condidtion and there’s no recording of the sound so no
5:12 I like the sound of the low C
I do to
i actually have a low c bass clarinet but it costed 3k for it but its definitely more cheaper than a contrabass
@@368aejeo3k is cheap for a bass clarinet
@@368aejeo3k is extremely cheap for a low C bass clarinet
Octocontralto and octocontrabass clarinets are not really shaped like that, but some contraltos and contrabasses are.
I need an Octo in my life
Same
My dream is to play the octo and put every other instrument to shame (especially tuba) ;)
DyingHertz
No sh*t
Person named octo: 🤓💝
I really want the last one
I literally, wish I could like your comment a million times
thanks for posting this, It was awesome to hear the lowest ranges of the lower clarinets. Plus I never knew there was an A basset horn or was that supposed to the regular A soprano.
You're welcome. The F one is a basset-horn, and the A one is really an extended A soprano called a basset clarinet.
Beginning - rip headphone users XD
Does the Octocontrabass really exist?
Only one, but it's all the way in a museum in France.
There is only one that exist and it's the possession of the LeBlanc company in France
Scott Hafele in France and no sound files exist at all just a few images at channel Cyrillic mercadier
Only one
I saw a vid of someone playing it
Jesus Christ that last one sounds terrifying
The is no need to use God's name in vain.
Tommy Black
Grab the bible
Last note on f basset sounds scary wtf
@Barak Dosunmu Im looking for another like button for this comment
I play the contara bass clarinet
Jessie Magana nice!
Cool 😎
Contra*
You forgot the Tenor Clarinet pitched in D, the Soprano Clarinet in A, and the rare Bassett Clarinet in G.
and the even rarer Bb Bassett Horn.
You forgot to check the description for the updated version.
Sorry. I checked the description but forgot to check out the new video. Thanks.

TruncatedTriangle Thx bro
Cheeseling You're Welcome
I tried the highest C on the clarinet and it did not work.
Cassie Ward lol I can play it easily
@@ImChazo Maybe I didn't produce enough air for it
I meant the C higher than high C.

@@ImChazo Yes
Is it just me or do I hear? Wow wow wow whenever the pets play something.
I can only hit up to the highest D presented here😣
B flat octocontralto low c sounded like straight up vibration
Do you mean octocontrabass?
the B-flat soprano goes higher than that
Not everyone can play that high
I can play higher on bass
Oh dear God don't go higher
HelicopterHarmonics so what it’s still part of the clarinet
The magic Pillow So what? He's assuming the video creator didn't know that just because it wasn't show
they must just be the full- sized models.
can you do more barque instruments like the dulcian
I'm actually going to redo these instrument family videos. I'm also going to do the brass, strings, percussion, other woodwinds, and more. I might do dulcains, if they sound different enough from bassoons.
so......all of these clarinets stay within the treble clef
no they are all in different keys so if the notes were transcribed to like piano notes or something it would be off the paper low
Sillycibin ah thank you
42fallen GD yes
You missed the A soprano clarinet and the D soprano clarinet.
You missed my pinned comment. Also, the D clarinet is a sopranino, not a soprano.
At 5:11 with the low notes D&C, what are those keys that appear in the middle?
The low D, Db, and C keys.
TruncatedTriangle I mean the 4 keys that appeared that u hold, are they on the side of the clarinet
They are actually under the other keys.
TruncatedTriangle oh ok, Thanks I was a little confused
@@anormalhuman819 well not exactly they're under the thumb rest, on the backside of the instrument. Seen on extended versions of the instruments
I play Contra-Alto Clarinet for my Junior High Band!
+TheJoJmaster Lol. I really like playing it.
Only the models that have the low C extension, but they're a lot rarer than contrabasses.
Ok lowkey that piccolo is really obnoxious 😂😂 kinda like trumpets
Trumpets aren’t obnoxious, you just never listened to them well
Clarinet could go higher
No offense, but who even makes reeds for the piccolo, contra-alto, octocontra-alto, and octocontrabass clarinets?
you have to use the entire tree
Brandon Cho Productions it was a joke
Piccolo contra alto and contra bass reeds are mass produced.
Why doesn’t the bass use bass cleft
To keep the fingerings and written notes consistent with all members, although they used to play on the bass clef centuries ago.
Because almost if not every bass clarinet member starts out on b-flat clarinet which plays in treble clef. If bass clarinet played in bass clef then to switch to bass clarinet would mean that they'd have to learn how to read another clef and read it proficiently. Basically its for practicality reasons.
So it’s transposed?
All except the C soprano are.
I think all clarinets use treble clef. Correct me if I’m wrong, I’m an alto sax player
Is there a sub contrabass clarinet?
That would be what's called an octocontralto clarinet
sharps and flats?
Adding those might make the video a bit too long for the TH-cam limit
why is the 1st one called piccolo
In some instrument families, piccolo mean an octave higher than standard
HelicopterHarmonics ok thx
That skiped a *LOT* of notes
You might want to go here instead: th-cam.com/video/nTmRcfiVmas/w-d-xo.html

That Bb bass only goes down to Eb not C btw and I play the C and Bb bass clarinets.
Some bass clarinets go all the down to written C3, others only goes to written Eb3.
TruncatedTriangle only C go to C and Bb to Eb dude trust me I play the Bb every day and I’m not trying to be mean
