    Hey Dina! I'm a midwife, just wanted to give you a tip- don't worry about bringing nail clippers to hospital, we don't advise cutting babies nails when they're newborns as their nails don't have enough keratin in them and are very easily damaged when you try and clip them, if baby is scratching his/her face you can gently file them or just use mittens :) good luck xx

    dina i wouldn't recommend cutting the new born baby's nails straight away in hospital and they're very gentle and you can easily make their nails bleed by cutting them! Put mittens on them straight away and wait at least a few days before cutting them. My brother's wife had a baby a couple of weeks ago and ended up accidentally hurting the baby by cutting its nails x

    • @huzy.
      @huzy. 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    In Finland we get a package that has all basic things for the baby's first week or two. :) also we get clothes for the baby and mommy from the hospital, Finnish women just pack the clothes they will wear when they go home. :)

  • @AminahJeelani83
    @AminahJeelani83 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Gave birth 8 weeks ago and this has me all excited for you remembering how it was! You've pretty much nailed it re packing and I know exactly what you mean about the changing bag. I've been reluctantly carrying a floral changing bag that came with the pram because I've been on the hunt for a stylish one and looks like I've found it! Also I just saw in the comments someone saying not to bathe baby for 48 hours which I've heard too and I also read that after you're baby is born and wiped down you know the slimy stuff that's left on them (can't remember name) if you rub that into their skin gently it prevents dry skin - worked for my little one. Also re breastfeeding (if you choose that route) - just keep persevering - I thought it was going to be a doddle and I'd be flowing like a tap but it definitely took a lot of work and first few weeks it seems like all you're doing is feeding your baby but just keep at it and it will get a lot easier in sha Allah. lastly (sorry for this mini thesis) I pray you have a smooth safe delivery and recovery and Allah azzawajal continues to shower His blessings on you, Sid and your families in this life and the hereafter Ameen x

    dear Dina. I advice you to take more clothes for the baby, like 4 or 5 outfits cuz sometimes you need to change the baby twice a day. and a hydrating cream also cuz the sking of the baby become so dry.
    and for you, you should take something really warm for when you go from the labor room to the rest room if you get cold you getup sick the next day. and a brush also for your hair.
    that's all what comes to my mind now.

    Lovely video Dina! Best of luck with the delivery. I gave birth recently and a few things you may want to add (although completely up to you) I really needed all of them
    1) Plastic flip flops as the bathroom floors are always wet for some reason on the maternity wards.
    2) Extra blanket as hospital ones aren't always as clean as they should be and baby needs to be warm when you leave
    3) extra baby vests
    4) a pillow - not always available
    5) a vest top for birth
    6) water spray for labour to cool down
    7) something to keep yourself busy! There's lots of waiting around
    8) extra muslin cloths are a must
    9) extra nappies!
    also there's a lot of moving about from waiting rooms to labour ward to post natal ward so you may want a wheeley bag to make life easy. Hope this helps! Xx

    I'd recommend packing Vaseline dina! I went into labour room with my sister in law and the gas thing she inhaled gave her ridiculous dry lips. It was very uncomfortable for her we had to run out to shops to get her some. Pack some just in case!! 👍

  • @daniyapg

    Congrats Dina! I'm a new mommy of a 4-month old. Just wanted to let you know that the Pampers actually come in an even smaller size than a 1. The newborn size is actually labelled "N." Try to grab some of those if you get a chance, my baby wore those for the first week or two (she was born close to 7 pounds). The 1 size is for babies between 8-14lb, so who knows maybe your baby might be born that weight :) Also another tip is to keep some organic coconut oil for baby's bum. TMI alert, but their first poop (called meconium) is super-sticky and almost impossible to wipe off so the coconut oil really helps. Also for when you are home afterwards (again TMI) but freeze some of your feminine hygiene, ahem, items and sprinkle with witch hazel. These will be your best friends for the first week or two postpartum especially if you have tearing which iA you won't! Safe and happy labour and delivery iA

Dina enjoy every second of it , even the labor and delivery , May Allah make it easy for you and your family :) BTW the HPA lanolin cream is the bomb , was a lifesaver for me , great idea to have it with you at the hospital :)

    Salaam Dina. Just wanted to mention how I have tried quite a few nappy rash creams out but none seemed to work brilliantly. What seemed to work really well was Vaseline. Vaseline helps to protect that area. If you feel that your nappy rash doesn't work be sure to give good old Vaseline a try and water wipes is amazing. Bit pricey but so worth it. InshaAllah you have an easy labour. x

    Hi Dina
    A girl or boy it doesnt matter im super excited for you. im 22 and have my own little baby girl. from exp id recommend NOT cutting the nails until they are one month and over, just put the tiny mittens on. they will be wrapped all the time anyway and sleeping so scratching wont be a problem. and DEFINITELY get a few more nappies because you never ever can tell how long you will be in the hospital so you will need them.
    Most of all just relax and take everything as ot comes ebcause it never goes as planned so just try and relax (as much as u can)
    good luck

    Dina I have loved your updates! But may I please make a suggestion or two?
    1) Pack plenty of pads (maternity and breast} as you might get through more than you think (FYI washable breastpads are way more comfortable!).
    2) Have a stash of nappies/nix/pads etc by your front door so if you and baby have to stay in hospital for a while (hopefully not) then they will be really quick for Sid to grab and bring for you. And he'll pick up the right things ;)
    I pray that the birth is a wonderful healthy experience for your family and hope to see lots of breastfeeding-friendly outfits!! :D

    Please, please, please, I've been struggling with this question since I know Dina is pregnant. I dont want to come off as rude or inappropriate but I haven't found the answer anywhere. How does a Muslim woman keep her modesty during labour? Does she just go to a female doctor? What if female doctors are not available? I know its different in every culture but essentialy?

    • @arabsoul17
      @arabsoul17 9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Well for me I can get either a male or female doctor. And lots of hijabis here (Canada) get a private room. Yes the guy doctor may deliver but it depends on whoever is on call when that time comes. I have requested that it'd be a female but all depends when my water will break and who will be there to deliver. They're pretty good with respecting our choice, I have no issues with the hospital I'll be delivering in. All very open and understanding

I'm in Canada and can't find ANYTHING that isn't all baby looking and they're too small. That one is the perfect size! I packed more onsies and pjs for baby, they told me to pack 4 sets of everything for some reason and 15 diapers. Anddd what else...oh yes bring a robe!! It'll be extra comfy for you and since in Canada I'll be pretty much topless because they want as much skin to skin contact with baby I am bringing my robe so I can just cover my arms up in them lol. I'm excited and nervous to hear how labour went for you! I still have 8 weeks left...almost there!

      +ninasays31 doesn't the hospital supply towels?

    • @ninasays31
      @ninasays31 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Marlene Flanagan unfortunately not in the UK. . I suppose if u turned up and had nothing then the hospital would supply a towel but here we genrally use our own.. hav a good day x

    • @LoveTvz
      @LoveTvz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      i dont know about the hospitals where u live but in Australia hospitals have towels so even if you take your own one its usually not a problem you can use hospital towel if your bleeding (same as singlets for babies)
      so find out what your hospital had and what not.

    Hi Dina, i just wanted to recommend something for you to have at least a few days before labour. Please start taking some Senokot tablets from a few days before because having a poo afterwards is really hard! Lol! I know it's like weird i'm telling you this but i really wish someone would have told me this before i gave birth. I didn't go for 8 days afterwards (sorry for TMI). Hope that helps. Wishing you the best for your labour and delivery, in sha Allah x

    Hi dina, next time take a hand trolley, I'm sure u have one lying around in ur home somewhere. They are pretty good n very handy. Ideal because, no lifting or carrying around heavy load if ur bag does end up being heavy side, you don't know what you might need. It's on wheels, just push it along, n more spacious, I'm a first time mum and I'm taking mine as i think its ideal n easy option. What do u think, try it next time if n when u have another child, it's much better.

    hey Dina! omg in loooove with that nappy bag!! 😍 just wanted to say, from my experience after both of my kids births I was absolutely starving! it's pretty much like running a marathon so you get pretty hungry after so sid or anyone who may be around might have to pop out and get you a meal or a few sandwiches 😉 also you tend to get hungry when your milk comes in so a few more snacks could be good! I'm so excited for you! in sha Allah you have an easy labor and both mummy and baby will be healthy ameen!

    • @shareenedds7312
      @shareenedds7312 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      also have you had a look at making padsicles? these would be handy for once you get home to help soothe your....self 😉 they have tutorials on TH-cam, only need a couple minutes to make and very easy - definitely worth having a look!

    Also recommend a dark towel, extra nappies, vests and babygrows (explosive poo and vomiting). Extra pyjamas are handy (heavy postnatal bleeding is normal). Also not sure if I saw nappy sacks for disposing of dirty nappies?

    in the UK, the hospital doesn't provide diapers and maternity pads etc?? when I had my son, I didn't use anything I packed for myself with the exception of body wash and pajamas and slippers. the pads, mesh underwear, baby diaperd, blankets hats and onsie were all provided by the hospital. take advantage of that if they do provide because at least here in America they charge your insurance for it anyways!

    Salaams Dina and Sid, just watched your vid and if you dont mind theres a few things you have missed for your bag, firstly you will need a small plastic water jug, for those post birth toilet trips, to pour over your bits when u have to wee, trust me you will thank me in the end. A pillow, helped me as i had something from home, energy snack bars, lots of reading material and lots of tissues for when your bundle of joy arrives, there wont be dry eye, i can tell you!!! Oh and try to enjoy the experiance, ino it maybe hard, but it will b over in a flash!! Good Luck and God Bless, may you have a trouble free birth xxx

    Hey Dina, just wanted to say if you're planning on breastfeeding straight after the baby is born which is the best way to avoid problems with latching on later on, maybe it would be best to wear a buttoned up nightie during actual Labour instead of a T-shirt, so you can do skin to skin straight away and breastfeed as soon as baby's on your chest! Just an idea anyway :) Just had a baby so speaking from experience! In sha Allah you will have a smooth Labour xxx

    the travel toothbrush looks so handy. I'll get some from Primark. Yes yes to baby haul. Now let me head over to those links you recommended hopefully I'll just be nosy and not do any damage with my card!!!

    Loved watching your pregnancy progress. A full term pregnancy is 40 weeks. They will "let" you go to 42 weeks but in truth, you would not be overdue. Doctors still go by the outdated calculation of guessing your conception based on the first day of your last menstrual cycle. Try to relax and enjoy this pre-baby time. Nap often now and nap when baby does after you return home.
