Wonderful video, as usual! I sure wish I could go on some of these rides too, but I live on the east coast about 70 miles west of Washington DC. If you get to ride the GAP and C&O Canal Trail, I live 12 miles from Williamsport, MD, which is now the new C&O Canal Trail Headquarters. I rode the entire GAP and C&O Trail from Pittsburgh, PA, to DC about 11 years ago on my two wheel Trek but now I'm on an e-assist Catrike Villager and love it! I'm almost 72 now so it was time to go to something safer!
In general, I don't like doing things in groups, especially large groups, but this looks pretty fun! I'm curious if you have any experience on the Cat. You probably like your HP better, or you are very used to it. I love visiting the San Juans, and it would be safer to bike in a group. It's so kewl to see the ferry loading up with trikes! Um... do trikes have an emergency brake? haha This is a really enjoyable video. Thank you.
Great video vlog, Sylvia. The downhill run looked exciting. Sorry to hear that you got COVID-19 on the 3rd day of a 5 day excursion. It sounds like you are healthier now. What a nice thing RecumbentPDX did for promoting Catrike. My very first recumbent trike was a Catrike Villager and I really enjoyed riding it. Keep on Triking!
Thanks, Tom! I've heard it said that everyone will eventually get Covid. This was my turn along with 13 others on the trip. Luckily, I recovered quickly. In fact, it took 6 days to test positive and by that time I was 95% recovered.
Alright, Mark! Luckily, my bout with Covid was short. Being an HP rider, I'm not sure why I was invited. It's possible the gals that rented the cabin we stayed in needed someone to stay in the spare room, haha!
@@TravelsByTrike Im glad you got well quickly. Who wouldn’t want you along for a group ride? Your knowledge and friendship and skills are priceless. I also assume you are a celebrity of,sorts in the Pacific Northwest recumbent community! Stay well. Have a great holiday season. It was 77 today in a fluke…..going down to 29 tomorrow with highs around 45. Back to normal for this time of year. Breaking out the fleece. Off to Florida in 4 weeks.
Now thats the way to tour … LOL … great ride, one that I would truly love to do. Is there any way to find out in advance when the next one is scheduled? Thanks as always for sharing and give my best to Matt & Zack.
Yes, the trip was very nice and also a very pricey trip This is a private tour that Mel at RecumbentPDX sets up annually to showcase his shop and Catrikes. Most of the people he invites are old friends from his Chicago days that are not cyclists and he fits them up with trikes.
@@ChisWest Chris: There's no magic. Just lasso some of your friends. Rent a place in Friday Harbor. Ride the ferries. Then ride your trikes. Then send us video!!!
@@TravelsByTrike no I don't know the Man , I just saw he had deep section rims and had obviously done some things to be more aero d . I was just wishing I was part of the fun
@@TravelsByTrike it was. The only places I recognised from your vid though was the entrance to the harbor and the english camp (which was deserted when I was there). Interestingly I was thrown out of a cafe on the main street by some redneck who decided I was sitting at HIS table, was shouted at for jaywalking (hey Im English, we do that) and on my way around the island one guy stopped and gave me a cold beer and several people stopped and offered me a lift (which I didnt want but it was nice). I did notice that many parts of the coast.ine were private land with keep out signs. I travelled out there from Seattle on a boat that visited the whales. I felt sorry for the whales pestered by tourists and didnt visit them on the way back. Stayed at a great hostel which I had to myself. My Friday comes from Oregon so not so far from there. I do love Seattle but never got to Vancouver (too old now).
RecumbentPDX has probably has 100 trikes on the shop floor on any given day. Yes, this was an all-inclusive tour package Mel and Janet set up. It was upscale and pricey.
Disappointing to see how many of the riders are not wearing high vis clothing. It is such a small thing, but from my experience makes a huge difference.
I guess there is always something to be disappointed in. Every trike had 2 tall, brightly colored flags with front and back lights. This wasn't a high traffic ride either.
@@TravelsByTrike Absolutely, I have no interest in making this a ‘complaining’ post. I think tremendous credit and many kudos go to the organizers and participants for putting on such a fabulous event!!! I’ve ridden around 35,000 miles over the last seven year and have come to the personal conclusion that hi-vis clothing far outperforms any of the other safety devices and ought to be worn in addition to and not instead of them. I have absolutely no data to back this opinion of mine!🤪
Have you ever considered getting a mount for your pole stick camera? Something that allows slide in with ease and yet pull it out without giving you any trouble but will not let it flop. That way you don't worry about a rough road. Just a thought.
Yes, I haven’t come up with a solution. It’s a good idea and I’d like to figure out that the pole is accessible and also not rattle. I can keep the camera on the pole in the side seat mount bag but it sticks out.
Loved it! Looks like it was a great ride. Really enjoyed the cool jazz music. Good job, my friend. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, David!
Mighty purty! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Wayne!
I don't own a trike, but your group looks like so much fun!
Trike riding is a hoot. Everyone riding and everyone you meet just gets a kick of it.
Thanks for sharing enjoyed

Many thanks, Gary! Yes, I bet the perspective from the different videos is interesting to see.
Great mix of video, pictures and love the upbeat music!

No rain! Looks like fun.
Thanks, Karen-meow, meow!!
Very cool and it looked like the temperature was also pretty cool.
Thanks, Edwin. We were lucky with the weather.

Nice scenic trip. Was all of this done in 1 day?
The trip was 5 nights. I got Covid on the 3rd day and the video is just the 1st 2 days.
How can we all get notified of up coming rides in the PNW?
This was not a fb group ride.
hi Sylvia , what editing software do you use?
I use my MacBook Pro for editing with Final Cut Pro X.
I was there with my Bike Friday NWT. Irony or what.
I bet that was fun.

I think I would be a little intimidated by Orcas and Mt. Constitution. Although it looked fun to go down for sure.
Yes, now that I've done it - the long, long slog of a climb up Mt Constitution isn't a ride I need to repeat.
