National Poetry Day - Louis MacNeice & Carrickfergus

  • Carrickfergus Museum celebrates National Poetry Day with a reflection on the work of poet, writer and broadcaster Louis MacNeice, who spent his childhood at the old Rectory, where his father was Rector of St Nicholas Parish Church.

    MacNeice died in early September 1963, just a few days short of his fifty-sixth birthday His ashes were buried in Carrowdore Church of Ireland graveyard in County Down. After having been a lecturer in English at Birmingham University he had become a BBC producer of radio programmes.
