Getting a lot of comments bringing up Avengers: Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man. These are very clearly not canon to EMH:
Is Avengers Assemble in the Same Continuity as Earth's Mightiest Heroes? #shorts

I believe I commented on your original shared universe video. With what we have now, and not what was originally intended it's actually far more likely that Ultimate Spider-Man(I will refer to him as USM from now on) was the one sharing a universe with EMH for a multitude of reasons. For one they're both voiced by Drake Bell, and show Spidey interacting with the Avengers. Also, Avengers Assemble is very much implied to be a sequel to EMH(as seen in the episode with Molecule Kid), and USM is shown to crossover with Avengers Assemble on many occasions. USM is also shown to have already met Wolverine in USM, which could be explained by his appearance in EMH. But I do also acknowledge like you did with Spectacular that there are some major flaws in this take. One example being Iron Fist and Luke Cage both appear as adults in EMH, but as teenagers in USM. I think we can both agree that neither USM or Spectacular are 100% canon, and that the studio's probably weren't sure if they wanted to branch out into a shared continuity. My main point here is that post-studio interference USM seems to be more likely to be canon to EMH than Spectacular, but pre-studio interference probably would've flip-flopped it to be Spectacular having a higher chance at being canon.

We can just assume a version of the show happened. Something that fits in universe. They had said that Wolverine and the X-men and EMH are connected, but then also said if they had continued they would have strayed further away from what happened on that show. I think Hulk vs fits even though it has different animation styles.

The issue is that fans often feel like the works only “count” - and thus their emotional attachments are validated - if the works they care for are “real” or canon. This is one reason there’s the constant insistence that Agents of SHIELD is in the MCU “proper,” rather than a parallel universe that is very similar, but has Coulson revived.

Honestly, as a Star Wars fan who is invested in a lot of the EU content which was officially labelled 'not canon' years ago, canon was always what I made of it. If it doesn't contradict canon, or even if it does, I will still enjoy both the canon and non-canon versions. I'll recognise the character and the version in my head will be a mix of their old version, their canon version, and my own headcanons. I can feel a similar feeling with Spidey in this instance, the canon of the shared universe will always be what I make of it. Hell, a lot of us including me have a perfect Spider Man in mind that's an amalgamation of the comics, the Raimi movies, the TASM movies, the MCU, Spectacular, and more, blending all our memories of the character into one version that we can fondly look back on. So thank you for making this, for perfectly putting into words what I felt, and for bringing this topic of discussion to the surface. Great work and keep being awesome!

I also have a theory in Marvel, if you time travel you cause a new universe to be created. Well EMH dealt with time travel during the Kang arc, maybe prior to this Earth 8096 was the same as Spectacular Spider-Man’s earth, but hey that’s just a theory a EMH theory thanks for reading.

Since I was young I loved the show without having seen spectacular spider-man and less wolverine and the x-men, but the characters are really great and everything that made me fall in love with the show is still there, so I feel that it does not matter so much if peter looks like more like his ultimate comics counterpart, or if wolverine is less mature than wolverine and the x-men, i personally can enjoy the show watching it both ways, and it's honestly great both ways.

Getting into the weeds of shared universes and continuity and canon is all well and fun, but I hope regardless of one's opinions what really matters is we enjoy the things we like and bond over them rather than let what should be fun talking points turn into arguments.
Tad Stones who headed Darkwing Duck is noted for saying he deliberately broke canon within the show itself, with flashbacks not being in continuity with each other. I like that the storytelling is the concept at its core, and details can be funged to better suit it. I don't know who said it, but "Never let the facts get in the way of a good story."

Tbh, there are far too many potholes for Avengers Assemble & Ultimate Spiderman to take place in the same Universe as them, even if we just call plot holes
Like Luke Cage Iron fist being Teens, Peter Parker in Ultimate Spiderman being 16, but in EMH he's 17, characters like Hank’s Yellowjacket & Janet Van Dyne seemingly not existing in AA, Baron Zemo from EMH and AA also have vastly different origins & stories, Cap didn't know Bucky was alive in AA until we Bucky’s first appearance in AA, Gwen Stacy CLEARLY not existing in Ultimate Spiderman, the Fantastic Four & The X-Men also don't seem to exist in AA.
There are far too many continuity eras to assume they're sequels to EMH and Spectacular Spiderman.
There also other stuff that haven't came to mind ATM.
X-Men Evolution also has it's fair shair of continuity problems

Peter at the start of Spectacular Spider-Man is around 15-16 since the first episode centers around his first day as a Junior and the rest of the series takes place within that year. Let’s just say he’s 15 though which would set Spectacular Spider-Man two years back before the events of EMH seasons 1-2. As Greg Weismann said Spectacular Spider-Man could take place in a world where the Hulk and Wolverine are in the background which could give an excuse for shows and movies like Hulk Vs Wolverine, and Wolverine & The X-Men happening around the same time as Spectacular. As for how Peter looks it could just be that he changed his suit and hairstyle in between the two years. He got rid of the web wings, made the blues in his suit darker, and changed the logo a bit (but then again because of the difference in detail it could just be the same logo I mean even the legs are the same). As for The Vault the version of Spectacular could just have been a test run as it was built as an overlay of Rykers island. After Spidey successfully breaks out and deems it inefficient, The Government power, or in EMH’s case Shield, builds the version from EMH using the data that they compiled from the Rykers incident. Overall it’s obvious that the Spider-Man in EMH was supposed to be either THE version of Spider-Man from Spectacular or like you said A version of that character from that universe. But I’ll defend the fact that nothing really messes with the continuity of both shows as some of the continuity errors could easily be solved with progress directly caused by incidents in Spectacular or things just changing overtime.

Beyond the fact that they are officially in two different universes (Earth-8096 for EMH, Earth-26496 for Spectacular), it’s pretty clear in Spectacular (just like the Raimi and Webb movies) that Spider-Man is the only superhero, so they can’t be canon. The Josh Keaton connection (just like the Drake Bell one for the later shows) means nothing, since Marvel largely uses the same Spidey actor for miscellaneous material up until a new show or game comes out and they recast, cycling them out whenever they want to shake things up.

Since the Avengers never show up or even mentioned in Spectacular Spidey along with them being slightly different in some way. I like to assume their not the same. I mean Spectacular Spidey could have his own versions of the Avengers, Fantastic, X Men, etc but we'll probably never know. So yeah to me their just 2 different Spider-Men who lived similar lives to each other. But you don't have to agree with it. If you have any headcanons about these 2 Spider-Men let me know. I'll wait

I for one think SSM, EMH and Watxm are truly in the same Universe.
Along with the Hulk vs movie & Thor: Tales of Asgard. Part of me also headcanons Planet Hulk and Dr Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme are the YostVerse too because in Planet Hulk we see Beta Rey Bill name-drop Hulk’s raging in Asgard.
Plus, The Thor in Hulk vs and Planet Hulk looks the same and the Dr Strange from Sorcerer Supreme looks exactly like the one who made a cameo at the start of Planet Hulk with the Illuminati.

    • @maskedcrusaderings
      @maskedcrusaderings 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@Justin Arzola Next Avengers has a few continuity eras.
When Tony narrates the story of the Avengers at the start of the film, Hank is Giantman/Ant-Man but we know he gave that role to Scott and became Yellowjacket in EMH, we also never see Captain Marvel mentioned as an Avenger in Next Avengers but in EMH she is one, plus Black widow is mention as one but she isn't in EMH.
Aside from that, there's a massive continuity era that makes it impossible.
That being : in EMH, Hank made Ultron but in Next Avengers, it was TONY.
Not to mention other stuff like Thor telling Thorunn that she learned the lesson Odin tried to teach him ( that being to know what it's like to be human ), in EMH Odin wanted Thor to be on Asgard to protect it, whereas Thor wanted to be there in order to make a difference.
Also, we wanna apply it to the same universe as the YostVerse, it wouldn't fit into continuity with Planet Hulk.
Because when Tony narrates the Avengers story and he manages ‘Alien Invaders’, shows Korg but we know during Planet Hulk, when he encounters his brothers on Sakkar, he kills them & eventually stays there with Hulk, so there's no logical way him & his brothers could come to earth to try conquer it.
Not to mention in Next Avengers, Hulk is ON Planet earth. At the end of Planet Hulk, he stayed on Sakkar, permanently, because he was exiled from Earth by the Illuminati.
Aside from that, Ultron has already been defeated in EMH. There are multiple issues that contradict EMH & Planet Hulk. We'd also have to wonder why didn't they call in other Heroes like Bucky, Scott, Spiderman, Fantastic Four or the X-Men when they were losing to Ultron.
I haven't seen the Invincible Ironman movie in a while so I don't remember much but I do think it could fit because we did see an alternate opening where the Dormammu from Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme appears. We also see the Hela from Hulk Vs Thor/EMH appear, if we wanna connect Dr Strange to Ironman & we wanna connect Hulk Vs Thor to both of them, then it would definitely fit in the continuity.
I also forgot to say we saw Li Mei from the The Invincible Ironman appear in Dr Strange The Sorcerer Supreme.
So if the Dr Strange animated movie is connected to the YostVerse, the Invincible Ironman would be too
Plus one of the symbols used for a spell barrier is also used by Amora in Hulk vs Thor to trap Hulk.

I'm pretty sure that was the plan for Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes writers, since they actually did have Josh Keaton reprising his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the show, to the point they even had unreleased Josh Keaton dialogue that was recorded when they were developing the episode Along Came a Spider. It's just that because Disney is being Disney, since Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon was on their channel Disney XD, instead they changed Josh Keaton with Drake Bell. Even though not a bad voice actor, especially if he is given an actual good script, but he does get a pretty bad reputation, especially with how bad Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon itself is.

Since Spectacular spider man ended with season 2 (at a crossroads of sorts) that Peter Parker lost the growth potential. Sure EMH Spidey can be considered the same Spidey from spectacular, but I don't want to. Sure, maybe it's because the timelines of the shows are years apart but i have a trouble accepting that the Avengers didn't exist during Spectacular spider man (if it is connected to EMH). And SHIELD didn't exists. And other villainous factions of the greater Marvel universe didn't exist. Sure EMH gave way to those villainous factions, but EMH Spidey is also fundamentally different from Spectacular Spidey. I mean they are both Peter Parkers so they have that going on. Also i just really want to keep the two shows separate. For sure Marvel 90s did the crossover interconnected tv shows better. And for for Assemble and Ultimate Spidey, no. They are not canon. What IS canon is the artstyle. Spider man in Avengers assemble is a well experienced hero who doesn't work for SHIELD, while Spider man in Ultimate is a founding member of Shield academy and a teacher. He's too actively involved with SHIELD.

i’m of the opinion that anything created without the original creator(s) should be considered to take place in its own universe. and i feel like this should apply to even the comics. everyone has their own interpretation of a character, and no matter how hard they tried not to, every writer and artist who came after lee, ditko, & romita, was writing a different peter parker than they did just by virtue of being different people with their own interpretations and ideas on where to take the character. i feel like both corporations and fans trying to shoehorn works created by different artists with different sensibilities into the same universe is both creatively limiting and damaging to art as a whole. in my opinion, every time a new writer gets to write a character, wether it be spider-man or batman or whoever, their work should be considered to be set in its own universe, regardless of wether they decide to pick up where someone else left off or reboot/reimagine the character entirely.

Yeah, no. I can't get behind basically any of this. A shared universe is meant to be as close to continually flawless as possible. You bring up the example of that building in Hawkeye objectively making it so the series can't exist in the MCU, that is a legitimate flaw of Hawkeye's storytelling that makes the series worse, for the exact same reason that a coffee cup showing up in the background of Game of Thrones is a flaw that makes that series worse. It forces the audience to compromise on the media they're experiencing to keep that continuity going. Hawkeye having a building that shouldn't exist is just the director fucking up. In universe, that building doesn't actually exist, just like that coffee cup isn't actually in game of thrones, it's just a real-world mistake that damages the transition from reality to fiction.
That is, unless the building in hawkeye is something that the script makes a point to emphasize and establish IS really in the film, in which case, yes, Hawkeye is not canon to the MCU, and any references to it are references to a similar in-universe adventure hawkeye had, that we didn't get to see in full.
Your suggestion that this is a peter parker who shares a near-identical life with spectacular peter, but is technically in a different universe, isn't a middle ground between 'yes' and 'no', it's 100% a 'no.' A shared universe is one story, that all takes place in the same world, with the same history. Knowing that this peter is a lot like spectacular peter is fun, sure, but it doesn't make him the same person. A genetic copy of a loved one with near identical memories is not the same person as your loved one, and they never will be. You can love them too, you can treat them well, but they are not the person you knew. Ben Reilly is not Peter Parker. The Spectacular Spider-Man is not in earth's mightiest heroes. If he is, and the writers confirm that it is the same peter, that means that earth's mightiest heroes is a shoddily made series with numerous continuity errors that weigh the series down.

I essentially never trust designated universe numbers unless they're stated in the stories themselves, and not at like the back of a random comic book or magazine. The MCU was designated 199999, but nobody working on the films ever actually stated that, it just showed up at the end of a comic book that listed universe numbers for various Marvel projects and stories. But in recent years Kevin Feige has been adamant that the MCU is simply an adaptation of the comics 616 universe, and not that it exists alongside the comics universe, which is what that original universe designation suggested. There is still the freedom of other universes having different designations for other other universes, which is why Miguel O'Hara might refer to the MCU as 199999, but 838 and the 616 TVA both refer to 616 as 616. So maybe there's a 1 that is also called like 69 or something in a different universe.
Besides, continuity is a VERY confusing thing. The Army of Darkness comics (and really the whole Evil Dead franchise) make that very clear. The fan wiki labels certain timelines, and there are clearly more than one, as there are MULTIPLE stories that continue from Army of Darkness and its various endings, in both games and comics, and the movies and shows and games and comics have all made it evident that the timeline can be changed. But when you take a step back and ignore timelines and look strictly at continuity, there's so much shit that makes everything confusing. Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness establishes that Ash Williams the Deadite slayer exists in many universes, and that Evil Dead is part of the Marvel multiverse. Various different comics, from one-shots to miniseries, to ongoing series reference other Army of Darkness comics events, but also contradict or completely ignore others. Ash travels to the Marvel universe in one comic, and talks about the Thing as his favorite Marvel character in another, while also referencing events that happen in comics that are consider by the writers or the fans to be canon to a separate timeline.
Is it similar events? Different intentions by different creators? Both? Neither? Yes and no. It's all of them, and it's none of them. Even the Evil Dead movies themselves have continuity errors from film to film and from interview to interview. Sometimes they make a joke about it, like where Ash found the book. Sometimes the statements of different creators are completely in contradiction with one another. Evil Dead 2013 is simultaneously a sequel to the very first Evil Dead film following the intended ending of Ash dying, but Lee Cronin, writer/director of Evil Dead Rise claims that the book in 2013 is separate from the book in the Raimi movies and the show.
Army of Darkness comics have a LOT of crossovers. Hack/Slash, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Vampirella, Red Sonja, Xena, Bubba Ho-Tep, Danger Girl, Re-Animator, etc. Most of those are under Dynamite comics. All of the Dynamite series have reboots at one point or another. Whether it's complete, or partial. here a character that originally came from Marvel comics alongside Conan the Barbarian (pretty sure it's Red Sonja) and has appeared alongside Spider-Man in the Marvel Comics 616 universe was rebooted under Dynamite to be the daughter of the original Red Sonja. But... If the daughter of the original Red Sonja is in the same universe as Ash, who is in a different universe from Marvel, but that Red Sonja's mother was in the Marvel universe, then... Why and how are they in the same timeline/universe? Are they connected at all?
Pick any comics franchise. Follow the crossovers to their end (if they have one), and you'll come across so many inconsistencies and contradictions. Two characters that exist in the same universe as each other, but the first of them exists separately from other character, whiile the second exists simultaneously with those same characters. Follow a crossover to its original universe and then to another crossover to that crossover's original universe, and despite the crossovers being said to exist in the same universe as the source material, the distant, unrelated crossover characters exists in separate universes.
By now I've repeated the same point over and over. Continuity is a bitch, and rarely makes sense or works. You can follow one franchise easily enough, but if you try to follow related brands, things just get more confusing and complicated. Hell, even specific universes don't have perfect continuity, let alone messy continuity from crossovers.
So does Ash Williams really exist in the same timeline as Vampirella, Red Sonja, Re-Animator, Freddy Kruger, Jason Voorhees, and Cassie Hack, characters he's interacted with? That's up to you to decide. Sure, he's met them. But they've met people that don't exist in his world. They've also occasionally met the same people he has, but despite being the same people reference events that never happened in the world in which they met Ash.
So... I guess the real question is: What is continuity? My answer is that it's just a collection of facts that will drive you insane if you try to keep them perfectly consistent (won't stop me from trying, though). What's your answer?

I great show, but a work of fiction envisioned by several very talented people. My mind won't break however I envision it. Sometimes cross continuity or taking it seriously is just all of us having fun.

Don’t think their is a shared universe and they don’t need to be. They can both be great shows that don’t have to be in the same universe. Shared universes make me sick because good storytelling is flushed down the toilet.

Actually the time skip in homecoming was revealed to be a mistake it was meant to be 6 years later but they put 8 by mistake

Sure, it’s a mistake, but so is the Hawkeye/MetLife building thing. The point is that they’re mistakes which are undeniably present in the finished product.

@@PillarofGarbage true but for the Hawkeye one I just thought the building changed during the 5 years when everyone was snapped/blipped away and they really should fix the time skip card in homecoming

In my mind they are the same because I love the idea that Spectacular Spider-Man in the same universe as EMH and WatX

Some people are way too obsessed with connecting everything. Comic book fans are especially guilty of this.

Kinda funny how Across The Spider-Verse canceled all this shit with one cameo

I like to think that events that were similar to spectacular Spider-Man did happen in the Avengers EMH universe but weren't entirely identical to what originally happened In Spectacular Spider-Man
