Honestly, if I were Topanga, I would feel really hurt about my boyfriend staying up all night talking to another girl. It wasn't right for Lauren to kiss Cory, knowing he had a girlfriend. If you like a guy that has a girlfriend, you shouldn't try to make things happen between the two of you. You should respect their relationship and know that if things are meant to be they'll work out. If not, then it's not meant to be and you shouldn't just rush into something knowing someone has a girlfriend.

Watching this reminds me of a saying I once heard, "You can't be wrong with love, for love is never wrong but to act on love is where most go wrong". I understand both sides, Lauren felt a connection with Cory and in the moment she did what she believed to be right, she kissed him. However she said she doesn't want to get in between his relationship with Topanga and I think a part of her meant that but she then went to tell him that they could build a relationship on what happened between them. Lauren acted on her feelings, I understand that she felt it was right but by acting on her feelings she caused a lot of pain to Cory and to many others, Even herself because Cory learned what it meant to lose Topanga which brought him back to her. I think that a lot of pain could have been avoided if both Cory and Lauren didn't act on it. But at the same time, that pain was necessary, Cory and Topanga needed to go through this all in order to come back stronger than ever.
one thing i don't understand is cory was kissed by another girl back in season 3 (i think). he could've lied about it, but the thing that kept them together was cory being honest about the other girl kissing him, so why lie now?
Because with Missy Robinson back in season 3 he knew he didn't have any real romantic feelings for her. She was just a girl interested in him because he was taken. Lauren was different because he actually connected with her. He actually felt doubt for the first time in his relationship with Topanga. And for the first time they showed that Cory might be interested in leaving his childhood romance with Topanga behind so he could discover new relationships and experiences.
I really wish Cory had just told her the truth here because it woulda been much more in-character and honestly i feel like Topanga woulda forgave him because she was honestly really forgiving with him, plus Cory was honestly pretty good with his words whenever he and Topanga were in a rough patch before this. Something along the lines of like "and this morning i told her it didnt mean anything, but then she kissed me, and ik i should have but i didnt pull away or move though i was extremely shocked and surprised at the time which didnt help me to think clearly, but i hate that because it didnt mean anything to me, like she doesnt, because you are eveything to me Topanga, and no matter what Lauren says or tries to do she could never change that, youre the only one i love, the only one i need, and that will never change." Another good thing would be to show her the letter right after saying that as well with some lines like "she also gave me this letter but i dont want it, i dont need to hear or read anything else she says because none of it matters, only you matter, youre the only one i need and the only girl i want to talk to. So take this and burn it or whatever just get rid of it, because her words mean nothing to me, only yours do." And boom, just saved this whole break up arc from happening, though yes i do get they wanted more drama so whatever.
I still remember sitting there during TGIF watching the ending where she picked up the note and I was like “ohhhh snap I can’t wait for next Friday, omg!! 🙀🙀” 😂

Perhaps Shawn feels so depressed over the whole thing because he knows it was his fault. Not on purpose, of course, but still.
This is the one thing Cory's mother was talking about, it's not that she didn't want Cory with Topenga, it's that she wanted Cory to at least meet other people to be sure, since he didn't listen, this situation happened on its own.

You know, I can relatevery much to this episode because my relationship with my girl, who is very much like topanga, but of course not in appearance, she allows me to roam freely and do as i wish. i have made many close relationships with other girls, but i could never shake the feeling of who i really belonged to, and so as close as i got with any of them, i stopped looking at those other girls with longing eyes and always came back to my girl.

Yea they broke up for bout 7 episodes, then they got back together. But Topanga broke up with him again in season 7 for like 4 episodes because of her parents divorcing and not believing in love. So they broke up about 4 times in the whole show.
