Bus drivers like cabbies go down small roads that link the arterial routes. If your main familiarity is with the arterial routes it's disorientating but educational nevertheless.

I would extend it from Liverpool Street to Holborn for better connections from Southeast London to the Centre.
Agreed, now that 171 no longer serves Holborn Station, 42 can be there to compensate
