How in the world did someone not realize how timeless it could/would have been to have their last concert recorded as a live CD/VHS.

The live version of this song that Mark Trammell sings is one of the great moments in Southern Gospel history, IMO.

I’m just going to say Mark Trammel is obviously one of the very best baritone’s ever in Southern Gospel…that being said as a Gold City fan Mark was with the Cathedral Quartet when I was introduced to Southern Gospel music in late 1986 & as far as I’m concerned the style & sound of Gold City was very progressive and cutting edge with Garry Jones at the helm of the controls & at the time their sound popularity was hitting the glass ceiling and really in my opinion had a much more broad appeal than just a “southern gospel” sound so when Ivan, Brian & eventually Garry Jones & Mark Fain departed it all changed and I personally feel it regressed back to a more traditional quartet sound & I felt like I was listening to Gold City sing like Glenn & George & I like both honest to God but separately Gold City had their distinct sound & The Cathedral’s had theirs and it was the best when Danny Funderburk, Mark & Gerald Wolfe arrived but needless to say I was disappointed when Gold City started sounding like the Cathedrals. Thank God I have the CD’s from Double Take
through Acapella Gold this was my favorite sound by a country mile.

@dra172 I, and i think a whole lot of other people would disagree with you saying they sounded like the cathedrals with mark. I grew up on the tim, mark, and jay lineup of gold city, and they did not sound like the cathedrals. They were the best. The cathedrals were good in their own way. But gold city was THE best in my opinoin (and a whole lot of others too). Someone said they were supposed to disband after ivan and brian left. Im 10,000,000% GLAD they didn't. The Cathedrals didnt have the same type of song content for one, and gold city had a top notch live band. That being said the cathedrals of the 80s, gold city from 80s to early 2000s and the kingsmen from the late 70s plum till mid 2000s, are all the best music this side of heaven.

I won’t bicker over what Gold City baritone was best but I will say this I had never seen Gold City stage this song with Steve Lacy and I’m glad they did & in hindsight I think Ivan & Brian Free’s very last performance should have been made professionally and released to the public & if the “author” of this video would allow I would GREATLY APPRECIATE SEEING THIS CONCERT IN ITS ENTIRETY!!!!

Wow! I always assumed Mark was the original of "the tag" on this song! This live version is much different than with Mark. Steve does a great job on it. Hard to beat Garry slowing it down on the verses. Great version of this powerful song! Thank God for Calvary!!

Actually, I believe Mike Leverve originally sang this with GC before Steve joined the group. You still can’t go wrong with either of them

That’s correct. It was originally on the Portrait album 1988
