    These were all brilliant, really inspired ideas. I especially love the ogre kicking the cannonballs!

      Thanks so much. I did wonder if that was stupid. But if it gets painted one day I think it’s plausible.

    Man, these were great. I love kicking the canon balls.
    I think you tipped me over the edge of getting into kitbashing with this video. Ever since I saw the first turnip28 stuff I've been curious about it, but had a case of buyers paralysis not knowing what kits to get. You made me think its just about getting started and in time the spare bit pile grows and the options for kitbash armies will grow with it.

      Thanks for the feedback. Part of me thought the kicking cannon balls was genius; part of me thought it’s just stupid. But I agree with what you say and it’s a case in point. Once you’ve got a few bits and pieces you look at them and how to make different things interact and you get some cool outcomes. In terms of kit bashing, a hobby in itself, you don’t need to wait to get loads of stuff. My video I guess shows you just need two kits that are broadly compatible and go from there. Especially true of the Oathmark/Stargrave/Frostgrave kits…

    Very nice work, the British WW2 helmets on some of them look exceptional.

      They’re fantastic. Reckon it’s cos during 100 years war Brits wore these kettle helmets anyway didn’t they? I reckon they will look good on Oathmark human cavalry. Sidetracked by Horus Heresy now.

      It worked out really well. One day I’ll get the Oathmark cavalry and the question there is Scottish or English Warlord heads. What do you reckon?

    The British ww2 Brodie helmet is similar to the English Civil War Pikemen helmets, maybe even Roundheads at a pinch. Besides it’s Your game & Your ideas 👍 I’m thinking of using the Lannister Halberdiers etc from the ASOIAF game & maybe add some black powder type rifles.

    • @stompie51
      @stompie51  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Do you reckon it was culturally intentional, the similarity, or just head protection always has the same dynamics. I’ve never got into ASOIAF but it sounds fun. Thanks for commenting.

      It’s been a seethingly hot few weeks with loads of real life alas. And I’ve been slowly painting up some old school goblins. Very slowly. This Sludge thing was a bit of a dive in the dark over the Jubilee Weekend as there’s no local constituency to play and I thought I’d see what I could achieve with random sets which on their own I didn’t really like or no longer had a use. I don’t know if these will ever go further than an undercoat, and using the British Army Army Painter can with no other use. But I am waiting to acquire over time some Oathmark cavalry I’ll convert up plus if I get my hands on some Victrix
      Napoleonic or those Warlord Landwehr. I’ll post when I do. Thanks for getting touch. How far have you got with Sludge?

    Very good work on these. I like how you’ve thought the concept through and implemented it in a coherent way rather than just throwing odd bits together. It might just give me the nudge I’ve been needing to get my own Sludge project moving (though I suppose I’ll have to get the rules first - having bought issue 1 of Blaster I’ve balked at paying £25 for other issues, with most of the content of marginal interest).
    BTW I think the Macedonian pikeman’s shield is probably an aspis, though I haven’t checked because if I do I’ll go down a rabbit hole and probably never come out. Definitely not a hoplon, though - that’s much larger.

    • @stompie51
      @stompie51  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, you’re right it’s not a hoplon. Wikipedia says. Thanks for your thoughts on the mash ups. Am getting some Atlantic WW1 Germans and have a few sprues of Marlburians so may see if those work out as an opposition! Played Dragon Rampant last week so even if there’s no local constituency for Sludge I can use em for something. Let me know if you do something and post pics.

      I don’t upload anything to TH-cam or a blog, in part because progress on my various projects is so slow and I suspect that the audience for excuse-making is rather a niche one.
      FWIW I’m currently working - agonisingly slowly - on some Perry Wars of the Roses infantry. I’m currently about half-way through my second box, by which I mean I’ve built a little over one box’s worth and have the parts ready for another ten or so figures. None are so much as primed, and probably won’t be for some time (a usefully elastic term). I also have a third box and have just ordered two boxes of European Mercenaries, because I’ve decided to get into the WotR in a fairly big way, largely because the several Perry boxes for the period make this relatively achievable. There may be sufficient spare heads and arms for some of these to be allocated to a Sludge and / or Turnip28 project.
      I’m also planning to get the WA WWI boxes, primarily for ‘straight’ historical games, though Frankenstein-like use of some parts is also a distinct possibility. Completing anything, however, remains, shall we say, some way off.

    • @stompie51
      @stompie51  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for swinging by. Not yet. I’ve been distracted into a Mordheim campaign and am prepping old school Kev Adam’s night goblins. But it’s inevitable I’ll pick up some Oathmark cavalry and Prussian Landwehr for this. Albeit it was wild for me to do this Sludge thing as a Jubilee weekend project. Nobody in the FLGS has even signalled they’d do Sludge.

    Give your engineer with the spiked helmet a wick, and convert the balls to shells (bombs). The engineer light the shell and making the logic of kicking the bomb into the enemy more destructive. See, for example, spherical shells used in Napoleonic artillery.

      @stompie51  ปีที่แล้ว

    This is really interesting content - I love Sludge - and I really wanted to watch this through to the end because there is so little Sludge out there. But I just could not bear the lip-smacking and pronounced swallowing. It’s a trigger for me. Just cannot bear it. I don’t mean to be “that guy”. I’m honestly not trying to be a dick. And you have a good voice, it’s easy to listen to. It’s just the mouth sounds when you aren’t talking, or are preparing to speak, they’re unbearable. Please, either train yourself to move your head back from the mic when not talking, or edit the additional sounds out. Or just hydrate yourself. It’s prominent.

      LMAO you literally said "it's a trigger for me." Anyone that talks like that automatically becomes irrelevant and therefore their opinion does not matter.
