I've never commented on a TH-cam video before, but this video was so helpful. I'm an absolute DIY novice but I felt like a total pro being able to take apart and fix one of our radiators that wouldn't heat. Thanks for saving me a call to the plumber!

Can't thank you enough. Superb clear instructive video.
Flow and return pipes both cold on one radiator - followed your instructions - opened up lock-shield valve fully - nothing! Still cold. I then turned my attention to the TRV (Siemens) and removed it. The 'pin' (bit sticking up) wouldn't move at all, wasn't sure how far it was supposed to be sticking up. Sprayed some WD40 on it and left it whilst I went to have another look at your video in case I wasn't doing it right. A few minutes later when I returned to the rad - Whoopee!! It was already hot, and the pin was noticeably sticking up further, and I was able to push it down and see that it was free. So thank you so much - you're an absolute star!! .....I have subscribed to your site so that I can return if I need any info another time.

Awesome! I live in a rented house, and this video has saved me the effort of having to get the letting agency to do something about it. I kind of knew it must be something simple and Google brought me here.
The radiator in my office was stone cold, but full of water. Gently pulling on the pin in the TRV made the radiator instantly heat up, and now everything is nice and hot the pin moves around freely again. The hardest part was getting the TRV head off, it's secured with clips and a metal C ring and some old paint, and a bit of rust and clearly hasn't been removed in 20 years.

For those who are not plumbers, don't forget if you start adjusting your lockshield valve it will need balancing again afterwards to get the correct flow through your radiator, or else you can cause further problems elsewhere in your system, as well as with that first problem rad.

Thank you for being one of those caring proffessionals that shares logical and well explained layman terms knowledge, I had one radiator stop working and British gas took it off clean it out (which I had already done having read on another video sludge could be a problem) and there was nothing coming out when he did it (obviously as I had already done it and told him), he put sludge buster in my water tank and basically gave up but said boiler was all good and other radiators and said maybe need floorboards ripping up to find problem 😲and that was that. I have lived with that issue for years until another radiator went cold then a a couple months later another one until today all but first and last had stopped working - having seen your video I carefully took off the regulator valve on each radiator and notice because i was in a hard water area the pins had locked down - i took your advice and gently wiggled them and cleaned them and immediately heard the rush sound and they heated up - everything fixed thanks to you and in 2022 with the fuels hikes and everything expensive and being unemployed this has save me an immense headache and stress! May you have great and happy times ahead for passing on good knowledge.

Thanks very much! I had a dead radiator and couldn't figure out what was wrong. I watched this video and found that the pin in the TRV was stuck down. I followed your instructions and gave it a gentle wiggle with pliers and it worked 😀. Thank you very much.

This video got my radiator working. After some dimwit from the council removed it and didn't come back. Never done this before but I didn't realise it had a lockshield. Apart from that , everything else was bled and open and flowing. Much appreciated for this video.

Hi I'm a landlord and it's helpful to have these videos as I can do small repairs myself without the additional cost of workmen so thank you.

Thank you soooo much! I'm living in a crappy student house and my heater wasn't working while I was having a cold. Was very frustrated but decided to check a quick video, you saved me so much time and suffering. Thank you once again!

Thank you so much for this! The radiator in my bedroom had a stuck down TRV. It's been SO COLD in the mornings the last couple of weeks.

Top man! I found the pin under the TRV was stuck in. Slight wiggle with some pliers and up it popped. Amazing how something so small could cause an issue like a whole rad going stone cold....saved me some money at any rate. God bless you.

This video was so helpful, thanks. I followed the instructions, freed the TRV pin, and the radiator is now working.

    Absolute life saver!
I had my walls plastered and they took the radiator off,
When I put it back on, it would not get hot while all others did.
The TRV pin was stuck - used a little bit of DW40 and gently pulled the pin up, eventually loosening it so it springs back up.
    Working perfectly now.
    Thanks!!!

Excellent video. Just fixed one radiator that's been cold for months...it was the pin that was stuck under the thermostat, which I wouldn't have known about. Thanks very much.

Nice. Didn't think the lock shield part would be the prob but decided to check because of your bid and turns out it was fitted and turned down about 70 to 80 % from full rather than regulated by the thermostat is valve. rad now fine. Cheers.

I’ve been living with a dead radiator for over 18 months. Finally had enough and was about to rip it off the wall to flush it and replace both valves…. Until I saw this video. Truly the hero we need.

Thank you so much. Your advice was invaluable. The pin was struck on the trv, as advised a bit of lube and a little bit of wiggling made it pop out. Keep it up , great content
