This store was in my district and was a really well run and well organized store. It was a Super Kmart store. The Customer Service desk was located on the left side. The red desk you refer to was actually part of the snack bar on the right side of the store in front of the grocery area.
This is so trippy to see, this is my hometown! This is the store I use to go to all the time as a kid. The far left side is now Rural King, but instead of using the left entranceway they knocked a part of the wall down a little to the right of the entrance and built a whole new door which pissed me off. They also put divider walls up and this building is now 3 separate stores which is crazy to me. Rural king is on the left, the center where the other main entrance is still stands empty and dark today, and to the right of that another part of the exterior wall was knocked out and is now a Marshall's with a new entrance. It's sad to see it converted to modern times but cool to go to Rural King and be able to go back inside this building that I grew up visiting. It's always a trip of nostalgia when I go shop there again.😄
I born and raised in Cambridge, I used to shop at the Kmart and yes it was quite a big store. The gas station used to do a blue dot special on the big sign that can be seen driving. If it was flashing you would get 5 cents off your gallon
If I remember correctly, the red desk part wasn't customer service. It was a little branch off the deli at one point that served light food, fountain pops, etc. Towards the last couple of years, the deli inside closed down. Then they just used that space for hanging clothes. Kmart express is now gone and replaced with a starbucks/Chipotle. Kmart is still abandoned. It was supposed to be replaced with Rural King but last I heard, that was no longer happening or it was delayed.
They opened around 95ish as a Big K. I remember as a kid the only Super K before 2000s was in New Philadelphia. The super K ended in 2015 and the Express a year or year and a half later, and transformed back to Big K which of course we all know the only one left after this was Youngstown.
Cool video here Wallie. This was a Super K-Mart, I believe throughout the late '90s to late '00s. It was downgraded to a regular K-Mart in its last few years before closing around April 2018. What I've heard, unless things have changed, this will become Rural King in Spring 2019. Great job documenting this beautiful building. Thumbs up from me.
That was one hell of a "K-Mart", and now the one here in Northwest Florida is closing, such a shame, I used to love "K-Mart", now its just a shadow of its former self. Great video.
It was closed in the spring of 2018. This was built in the early 90s. It was a super K, when Walmart came in it helped the death of this store . They did away with the grocery and bakery closed years before the final closing .
Love your videos compared to a lot of other place explorers because you film the place while others film their face most the time, which I hate, while you focus on the place which I love.
Thank you for the kind words. That's how I film things... the way I would want to watch these videos. Not that others arent good, but there are times I wish they would show this or that and dont. So I think about those things for my videos. I like to be as thorough as I can be.
I grew up there. Kmart was originally down across the interstate in the shopping plaza. Early 90’s they bought that land and built the building seen here. It was a massive store. I worked there at the Olan Mills for a bit, and also at the Kmart itself. It was one of the few properties Kmart owned outright, which is why it was one of the last to close. Our Kmart here in Marietta closed later, and just this year is being used as a uhaul place. A much smaller, older store here though. The Kmart in Cambridge was always clean and well ran.
Cambridge is my hometown, I remember when they backfield that land and built that Kmart. That location opened 1995 , and it was a super Kmart store. And closed at least 10yrs ago, the super Walmart on the hill added to the devastation of Kmart bankruptcy. Royal king is currently in the old SUPER KMART building now.
Until seeing your videos I never even heard of Kmart express. I definitely admire the fact that you have the respect you do for these properties and that you tell others not to destroy things.
Wisconsin Kmart Update: - Kmart in Green Bay CLOSED -Kmart in Janesville, closing Feb. - Kmart in Cudahy closing Feb. -(sadly...) Kmart in Oconomowoc closing end of March After this, no more Kmarts will be in Wisconsin, I'll have to go to Illinois:/
I passed through Cambridge once on the way to Indianapolis (Indiana)... stayed in a hotel called the Southgate... was a nice place for the $100 I spent to get a room for about 6 hours because I was tired of driving late at night. Didn't stay long enough in that town to explore, and checked out of the hotel the next morning about 6 hours later en route to Indy. All I remember is that the Southgate was across the street from a Sheetz where I stopped the next morning to get gas (this was all in 2014).
I think kmart built alot these so called "conversion stores" They would be built as a regular kmart and then would be converted to super kmart. But only a few of these were ever converted. Alot of these newer stores seem to be relocations of older ones.
Hi there! Randy from the local area here! I just figured I'd provide you an update on the former Cambridge, Ohio K-Mart. As of mid-2020, Rural King is supposed to be moving into the building. They were saying spring of 2021, I'm not sure if that'll stand, but we'll wait and see. The building is now a beige, as a Rural King store usually is. As for the K-Mart express... it has since been demolished and a building containing a Starbucks, Chipotle, and a few other things have gone in.
This Kmart was converted to a Super Kmart Center then converted back to a Kmart. Rural King bought the whole mall property so the Kmart had to close. But it never happen because of the roof leaks. It opened in 1955 and closed April 2018 and was over 100,000 square ft being one of the largest Kmarts of the time in 1995.
Hi Wallie, yet another great video! I liked your comment about vandalism, that was an important thing to say! You did show respect in this, as you always do! Have a great evening!
Hey it was cool to see that building again. At the same time it hurt, I have been in that store many times. I live close by. Anyways the customer service was to the the left, the right is where the deli used to be when it was a super Kmart. It is sad that window is broken in the door. You did a good job by not going in. Big Lots did move in the old K Mart, which was in the end store of a strip mall, which is down the road, about a mile or so. But it's true, that building is huge! I do hope someone does end up moving in there and using it.
The gas station is gone now, and they are building a Chipoltle in its place. The Kmart was suppose to be turned into a Rural King, but it changed into a nothing now. The trucks are no longer permitted to park there, as they have large concrete barriers up to prevent traffic. This was my favorite store, in Cambridge. It was very sad to see them close the doors. When it was a SuperK, I would take my kid on the weekends, for lunch in their cafeteria. The pizza was the biggest hit.
Awesome video! Such a shame vandals smashed the express station glass door, I’d be weary of going all the way in especially with all them truckers parked nearby.
Hi Wallie, love all videos, really happy you're feeling better and going too be moving to your own place,I have depression too,it can be so depiliting sometimes, good luck with all you do,love all the way from Scotland, zxxxxxx
Nice find! Looks like a nice big Kmart. I like the express station. Maybe they should make that express station into a truck stop or something since there's a bunch of trucks in the area.
One of my two local Kmarts. I really really miss my local Kmarts and my local Sears. I have Snapchat memories from 2017 of this kmart being open lol. I remember going too. I should’ve taken more pictures and stuff when it was open.
Wallieb26 is the man I love watching your videos I've been interested in abandoned places since I was little... And you have inspired me to start my own TH-cam channel about abandoned places
YourRadioPlace.com news (Local radio station news for Cambridge) reported the mayor at this past Monday's city hall meeting announced they're now coming in 2020. (I wouldn't take anything the city council says as gold, but we'll see.)
Insane place dude. Awesome though! By the way quick question, did you ever get a chance to save the Thank You for Shopping Big Kmart sign from shaler township? And I’m just curious, is it possible you could do an update to your retail parts collection in the future? I’ve also been a proud subscriber for 2 years now. I love Kmart!
Thank you so so much for your support. I did save the Kmart sign from Shaler. Update video coming soon! I've been moving so it's been hectic but yes, I plan to do another collection video too!
The Kmart Express was closed a couple of years before Kmart itself. The Express was taken down and rumors are that Starbucks and maybe Chipotle are going there.
Update: New building built on top of where the Express was, has starbucks, chipotle, and great clips so far. Kmart building itself is looking terrible, no power anymore, and parking lot has falling light posts and has been barricaded to prevent trucks from parking back there.
1. KMart Express I think was only a Midwest thing? 2. I've checked and there are only (as of when I'm typing this) nine KMart's left in Maryland (Baltimore, Edgewater, Frederick, Hagerstown, Hyattsville, Oxon Hill, Prince Frederick, Silver Spring, Stevensville)
Thank you for doing this and other videos as you headed on your getaway, something you didn't have to do but is appreciated. Glad your trip went well. They strip all the shelving out but why do they leave the checkout counters and customer service desk? Is that common or do those usually get sold or scrapped as I imagine they are metal and it seems they make every last dollar they can from scrap.
@@WallieB26 I just read a news piece last night that around 240 stores were still having the leases paid for and contained a multitude of items from shelving to stock and Sears have asked the court if they can stop paying for them and leave the items in them as they own the waste collection company money for stores they have already closed and cleared. Seems future closures may leave the stores in less of a clean and clear state if they can't afford to clean them out.
My Sebring Convertible bit the dust. It was rotting underneath and Ohio's potholes basically ruined it last winter. Driving the Honda CRV until I find something else. Wouldnt mind another Sebring Vert. I loved that car.

The reason some kmarts look like that is so they can be turned into subsidiaries like big K or Super K. They were originally kmart stores.
Thumbs up, Wallie. I like seeing videos like this about K Mart because all the K Mart stores in my area closed and left town several years ago.
Dude that place is HUGE!!!!
it is (i live there)

This was the one I tried to send you to when it was closing since it was a regular Kmart converted to a Super K then converted back, unique building.
I'm sorry I couldnt make it out in time. I so badly wanted to. I just never had the chance before time ran out.
Enjoyed the video Wallie. Amazing that place hasn't been trashed with the door busted open like that

I miss shopping here when I was younger. This store used to be bigger than the Walmart down the road in terms of customer volume.
The sears of mine I worked at closed on January 6,2019!
WallieB I have pics if you could make a video like you do on here for me I’d appreciate it
Which one
Two big Sears stores in my city closed down within the past three months.
The last two items I got from k Mart was Gears of war judgement and soul Calibur 5 before it closed
Enjoy your videos! Keep up the awesome work!
Went to that Kmart all the time growing up in the 90s crazy to see it empty

I was here when they had their store closing signs up last year, sad to see it gone. That store was HUGE!
I wish you would come to where I am from and explore we have 2 abandoned k Marts that I can think of and I know there is an abandoned Arby's
This store reminds me of a Kmart in Rogers Arkansas that was also converted to a Super Kmart.
Nice job on this Super K, Wallie. The snow cover is my favorite. Speaking of that, it's snowing in my area. But anyways, nice job.
Reminds me of the still open Clio, MI kmart.
Lit up like crazy! That was helpful. 😉
I had a super Kmart down in Georgia it was huge now it a at home store also the old Kroger next to it closed the next day and it's still empty
I live 5 min from that place grew up in cambridge byesville area this video was really good 😀
GOOD JOB WALLIE B!!!
It closed April 2018. It was supposed to be turned into a Rural King but they backed out

Well, if they do take over, itll be nice to see the place come back to life.

Cool video! I feel like we got a good look at it even though you didn’t go inside (which I definitely don’t blame you for, I wouldn’t have either) ☺️
The Kmart Express was closed a couple of years before Kmart itself. The Express was taken down and rumors are that Starbucks and maybe Chipotle are going there.
The kmart is soon to become a Rural King. Their move was delayed because the price wasn't right for them.
Update: New building built on top of where the Express was, has starbucks, chipotle, and great clips so far. Kmart building itself is looking terrible, no power anymore, and parking lot has falling light posts and has been barricaded to prevent trucks from parking back there.
My next stop lol, my hometown
That Kmart Express Turned Into An Starbucks

Cool Kmart :)
When you come to Erie do a review on RidgeField elementary school.

It is actually a Rural King now

Kmart indeed needs to be saved. I don’t really care much for Sears
I used to have a kmart in California Clovis it was a big kmart then downsized to a normal kmart after that it closed down in 2018 so yea #SAVETHEKMARTS
Are we getting the final update on shaler kmart?
Coming soon!

Oh wow!

You can walk in to the petrol station, though the broken glass door!

amazing
it started as a big Kmart, then became a super Kmart when walmart came to town.
I didn't even know Kmart had gas stations
I don’t know if you will see this in time Kmart in Eire Pa is closing
I'm going to try and make it up there but I'm not sure if I'll have time. I just moved into a new place so it's been hectic.
There is an abandoned Super K by my house that I’m going to go explore when it gets warm out
