What a beautiful tribute to her father. However, with all due respect to the Academy, why wait until someone reaches their mid-90s to bestow such an honor? Given all the remarkable achievements Quincy Jones has made throughout his life-the groundbreaking work as a composer, conductor, and producer-this award should have been bestowed upon him decades ago. Jones composed numerous iconic film scores, including The Pawnbroker (1965), In the Heat of the Night (1967), In Cold Blood (1967), The Italian Job (1969), The Wiz (1978), and The Color Purple (1985). His innovative approach to blending jazz, orchestral music, and film storytelling has had an enduring impact on cinema, elevating not just the films themselves but the very art of film scoring. In 1968, Jones became the first African American to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song for The Eyes of Love from the film Banning (1967). That same year, he was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score for his work on In Cold Blood, making him the first African American to be nominated twice in the same year. In 1971, he became the first African American to serve as musical director and conductor of the Academy Awards. His groundbreaking achievements continued when he became the first African American to receive the Academy's Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1995. With seven Academy Award nominations, he tied with sound designer Willie D. Burton as the second most Oscar-nominated African American in history. Quincy Jones’ legacy as a musical pioneer, visionary, and trailblazer has left an indelible mark on the industry. We all loved him dearly, and his contributions will continue to inspire generations to come. His presence, artistry, and warmth will be profoundly missed.
Why choose negativity? Quincy was aware and prepared his own speech. An award like this is planned well in advance and coordinated with the honoree who may delay so that their entire family can be present, or when they are in good health to attend, or when they don’t expect to be nominated aka retired. He was already honored by the Academy in 1995 and as you mentioned had several nominations prior to that. Perhaps you are not aware that becoming an EGOT which is a major accomplishment requires that you win (not honorary) an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. He had all but the Oscar and was still composing for films that came out this year so maybe he was working towards the box set. Let’s not rain on an emotional tribute to a legend with miserable assumptions. His legacy was not nor will it ever be under appreciated. 🕊️

What a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Quincy Jones- a true icon, not just as a groundbreaking musician but as one of the most genuine souls. His talented daughter, Rashida, said it best: his life and work were always rooted in love. His extraordinary legacy shines on, beautifully carried forward by his wonderful children, whom he was so proud of.
Seeing Rashida trying to stay strong to deliver these words made me cry. What a beautiful strength love and family can give in mourning. But what was that camera man thinking showing us Anna Kendrick's chin when Rashida's brother was about to hug her after the speech?

Since the passing of Quincy, I have sung his praises to both him and his brother. As a former Seattlite, Quincy did remarkable things for the music industry. His brother took care of the green river killer Gary Ridgeway as the sitting judge. So thank you to the Jones family for both of these amazing men to vastly different careers, but both of them so very important to the US.

Why am I crying again? Quincy Jones did something a lot of people couldn't have done. He put a whole lot of effort and passion to help people create their music and he helped share that music with everyone. If he wasn't alive then, a lot of music wouldn't be present right now. Without good music, there isn't much fun to be shared around the world. Quincy was GREATNESS and he knew how to bring people together. The man was one of a kind. May you rest in peace, Quincy Jones. Thank you.

Beautiful speech! I'll listen to my Quincy Jones playlist tonight. ❤
I am crying! His music will forever live on.
That could not have been easy for any of them. Thank you, your father was a great one and will never be forgotten.
Whoa!! She sure honored him and did him proud!
He was a musical genius, and one of the most extraordinary people
Beautiful man
No one like him
😔☮️
That was maybe the most heartfelt and sweetest speech I have ever heard come out of Hollywood. 😢 Thank you for your contribution to the arts Mr. Jones. Your legacy will forever live on. Condolences to your beautiful family.
Its hard to explain, but anytime I saw Mr Jones, be it an interview, documentary, etc I had to stop and watch...he was charismatic & charming as well as immensely talented! He himself said, he probably packed 200 years into 91...as far back as I can remember there was Quincy...as far as time goes forward, there will be Quincy. A bigger than life, talent for the ages.. Thanks for everything ,Q!😢❤
I love her sister literally holding her back. Love in action.
Thank you Rashida for giving such a wonderful speech about your late father. We still miss you Mr. Quincy Jones. RIP Quincy Jones.
Rashida is such an amazing actress but this was probably her toughest moment ever. Her family there to support and her dad smiling down on them all...
Rashida, you did the best thing which is capture your father’s legacy through the wonderful Netflix documentary. I’ve always know the big brush strokes of his life, but you showed the man. You did it, girl🥹
Amen! Beautiful tribute from his Daughter and Family. THANK YOU Mr. Quincy Jones and REST IN PEACE! 🙏
What is the name of the documentary on Netflix ? Is it a new one still playing now ?
Yes
When she mentioned Sounds and Stuff Like That and The Dude..🙌🏽❤
Very touching speech. Congratulations for this honorary award for Quincy Jones! I love Oscar & USA 🇺🇸
That must have been so hard for them. Very brave ❤️
Beautiful. Thank you for being there Jones family. Rashida did well. I would have fallen apart trying to give that speech
Had to be the hardest thing she had to do that was her best friend. Quincy you were the best ever lived your gifts changed the world
Why am I crying again? Quincy Jones did something a lot of people couldn't have done. He put a whole lot of effort and passion to help people create their music and he helped share that music with everyone. If he wasn't alive then, a lot of music wouldn't be present right now. Without good music, there isn't much fun to be shared around the world. Quincy was GREATNESS and he knew how to bring people together. The man was one of a kind. May you rest in peace, Quincy Jones. Thank you.
Well done Rashida!! That was a beautiful speech honoring your dad’s legacy. ❤
Rip Quincy Jones legend
I have been listening to his work with Frank Sinatra. What a legacy. Great tribute to your Father. What a family. I have heard some folks online and some stories they want to say against this King who has just passed. If you didn't bring it up when he was here it is not relevant now he has passed away. RIP King
What a career what a talent what a man! Quincy Jones is the personification of genius!! Rest well king!!!

Quincy ❤❤❤
The Auditorium is named after him at Garfield High School (my rival hs) in Seattle, WA and they literally have one the BEST bands. (My high school Franklin High School - Kenny G went to) so many amazing artists were birthed there. RIP Quincy Jones. Great Honor.
