@@Liltenhead Sadly, via Git I found out that it does not work that way, and multiple holopads next to each other can not hear each other... So only one head may be late to the meeting.

The way the UI looks and the way you can emergency project, means this is potentially the first thing added from space station 13 directly that has more (useful) utility than it's original counterpart
Most people don't even know this is a thing in ss13 in my opinion from how little its used, it will be cool to see how emergency broadcast is used though. Could be a godsend fallback option when comms are cut.
Yeah I can count on one hand the amount of times I've managed to get anyone to answer a holopad call on ss13. And exactly zero times have I seen someone attempt to call a holopad that I was near.
I was about to say that they still had to work out the hologram movement, but then I thought: "You know something? I actually prefer that they don't move. I mean why are you whizzing around on my bridge like a battle-powdered squirrel?? This is a conference call!" The only way I could think of improving on it, would be to make it a kind of actual projection, so you could see a vague transmission of the background as well, and by extension of this -> hear what people are saying around them, maybe muffled and distorted It would more be a "transmitting localized area with a focus on whomever made the call/standing on the pad"-kind of thing...I guess more Star Wars-inspired...But what we have now is cool!
do they have to be on the same grid to be connected? If not, this is a cool way for the captain to recive orders from Nanotrasen without needing them to be there physically
If you're womdering why the bridge has two holopads, the other pad is a "long range pad" which allows you to communicate with people on other grids, like the cargo shuttle or the evac shuttle.
Finally I can become the AI's secretary and drag around a holopad for them for when they want a physical presence in a room! Ill have to look into these.

Honestly something that has struck me as strange about the radio channels on SS13/SS14 is the idea of a "common" channel that everyone can broadcast on. I feel that this kind of ruins a lot of Roleplay potential, as crew are able to simply announce to everyone on the station whatever they please whenever they please - which is fine for a low roleplay server in a video game with text chat instead of real time voice chat - but at least in security a broadcast channel like this is supposed to be limited in who can speak under what circumstances most of the time. However this is just my preference as someone who likes roleplay - but i feel that medium roleplay or higher servers would benefit a lot from removing or at least discouraging the use of a broadcasting channel like the common channel. Encouraging players to make use of their department radio to report issues, and using holopads to contact individual crew would be really immersive, at least to me. If you want to report an issue, you tell your boss via the department radio and they contact the appropriate departments to sort it out. If you need to speak to someone in particular for another reason, you can now remotely call them thanks to the holo-pads, which is great. And if there really is an emergency, you can announce it via the holopads too!
I feel like that's more of a HRP thing. In MRP antags don't usually roleplay and escalation happens much quicker than HRP, almost no build up. You also aren't really that connected to your fellow crewmembers in MRP so someone going missing or yelling HELP!! in the radio isn't going to garner as much help as yelling it in common, especially since in attention heavy roles like medical, science, early round atmo, and engi during emergencies because people are going to be more heavily focused on their job rather than checking the radio. Emergencies in SS usually don't give people the time to swap radios or get to a holopad and wait for someone else to pick up, if they even pick up at all. (I've tried holopads in ss13 and people never ever picked up my call even in MRP)
is it possible as AI to change your appearance to one of your playable characters? (Totally not going to abuse this to emergency broadcast WEH across the station)
Looking at the PR, it says that holopads work off "the TelephoneSystem and the HolopadSystem," but it's not clear (at least to someone like me not deeply steeped in technical details) whether these are dependent on or separate from the communications server system. If they're independent of that, it creates a whole lot of options for all sorts of things, including emergency communication during solar flares. Anyone able to explain the details here?
I have been eagerly awaiting this one getting in (and I think it's in the very next stable, so a few days away!) More AI integration is good, just for having stuff to do. AI is a bit too motivated to be security AI just for a lack of having stuff to do, but this gives a lot more distraction.

I would argue that the new APC system is the first thing tbh, being unbound from arbitrary zones is awesome
@Theta6369 The APC system is from Bay I think? I think being able to power machines without an APC to begin with is the real highlight here.
@@romulo2714 iirc bay12 still uses zones for wireless power transfer, with the option of installing a direct terminal, so it's close but not quite
