I never, ever hear anyone talk about this song - and what a shame that is! I love this song so much , not just for its musical component, but the rich meaning behind it too. Love how it empowers women everywhere, how it challenges patriarchal values and the suppression of women, and tells women, girls, anyone everywhere that they should be their own person, not a product of expectations. And i agree! It's time for women - and everyone else- to stand up for themselves and join in the fight to be their own person x

It speaks in generally about people having the right to their body and the messed up gender/sex politics we face. Rock on.

It's literally a singer who is a woman drawing on her own experiences and writing a song about how she's been treated as a woman and isn't going to stand for it anymore. Sure it can take any meaning you want it to but only if you don't actually listen to the song.
