Can someone tell me what a ghantang is and what language it is. I think it means a young unmarried woman? Also what/where is the lower Cape and what does it mean for Moms to walk on their heels?
The language is Afrikaans. I have no idea what you are firstly referring to, my apologies. A young unmarried woman is, however, called an "oujongnooi" (old-young-lady)(no idea why lol). The "onderkaap" generally refers to the Western Cape province/Cape Town.
Ghantang means young woman. Onder-Kaap is a certain area of the City of Cape Town (there is also a Bo-Kaap). Mammies op hulle hakke loop means well-dressed women walking in high heels. The song is about this young woman who is longing for her lover (whose name is Jantjie) to come back. Jantjie left the area (the Onder-Kaap).
